Giant Bomb Thread #5 - We love you, Ryan Davis

Brad Muir's awesome, but you can't deny there's something gross about how every other Kickstarter gets relegated to the bottom of Worth Reading, while this one gets a full story. Especially given the fact that the Armikrog Kickstarter has been almost as successful, so it isn't even just based on the amount they've brought in to call this one notable.

Project Eternity and Torment didn't get news stories either right? Those were bigger deals than this IMO.

I asked Patrick about not reporting on Obsidian's game (since I'll accept, for sake of argument, they didn't report on Torment because of inXile's track record). Here is his response: http://patrickhatesformspring.tumbl...-not-watching-the-stream-damn-work-but-is-the. He provides a justification but I'm not sure if I accept it. DF started Kickstarter craze but other companies have made waves on it. I'm not sure a DF follow-up is more newsworthy just because DF was the first mover.

I think the thing to do might just to shrug and accept that GB is more likely to report on stuff involving people they know than stuff like Torment.

A search result for Kickstarter on GB.

Having a lengthy twitter conversation that involves someone who has blocked you is a nightmare. Just another reason for Fuck Ryan Davis.

So they covered wasteland 2, ouya, tex murphy, and some of the potential dangers of kickstarter, in addition to TWO WHOLE STORIES about double fine. God giant bomb you're so biased.

Twitter's goddamn conversation system sometimes leaves out the initial tweet for some fucking reason I can't comprehend so I have no idea what they're actually talking about

I have never met Ryan Davis. I have never talked to Ryan Davis. He seems like the kind of guy I would disagree about every political issue ever with.

He said on Twitter back during the election that he disliked Romney and didn't "vote for his robot ass" or something like that. I think that might be the most overt he's ever been about his politics. I see him being a Blue Dog.

Ryan Davis says he loves video games, but his last review was Assassians Creed 3 for the Xbox 360. Who really knows if he has ever even played a video game?

His loyalties and opinions are for sale to the highest bidder, just ask Microsoft and Double Fine. He says that he is not in the pocket of the mafia, but can we really trust this man?

Is this who we want tweeting our children and filling their heads with Capitalist propaganda?

Just finished watching Backflips 'n BioForge part 2. Such a funny, entertaining video series and Danny is an excellent contributor.

Makes me feel like the term "Endurance Run" is unnecessary. Most of the time they've decided to play through a game on a whim it's been great, with the only exception I can think of being Chrono Trigger.

I really have no desire to dig into their political affiliations. Hell, Vinny's doomsday prepping really makes me not want to know how deep that rabbit hole goes. I'm glad they avoid the topic in most cases.

I don't think he's an objectivist. Shadyspace just hates him (he ruined the bombcast, you know).
I think the guys have hinted that Dave is a libertarian, for reals.

The dude bristles whenever even the word "communism" is mentioned as being not completely the worst thing ever (Star Trek is a society in which communism is done right, sorry big guy) and he's half-seriously defended Ayn Rand before.

Just for the record, I don't care how or why they select the kickstarters they report on, but at least they should be consistent. I remember a ton of snark about how inXile shouldn't start a second kickstarter without delivering on the first one. DF does the same thing but gets a front page news article instead. Does this make sense to you?

Maybe Ryan Davis hates communism because he's a fascist.

I can't believe Ryan is so god damn awful at this game. I swear I've seen him spin himself out on a slight turn like a dozen times now.

I don't fault him for it. The Grid games have a weird driving model. I'm just fine with any other racing game out there but I couldn't handle the Grid 1 demo. Something about it feels so unnatural.
