More 'friends of the site' coverage for something almost no one who visits the site is interested with that QL. Bummer.

edit: not to be a jerk, but they've looked at it like twice already.

Given Jeff's interest in Skylanders, I think they'd be looking at Infinity even if Johnnie V wasn't involved.

I hope Patrick, who's writing the Gone Home review for GB, avoids the insufferable naval gazing wank fest everyone else's review is going to be like. People are lining up, just itching to jizz all over it's face.

So you're gonna be mad if he likes it?

I dunno, man, it looks like a Patrick game to me.

Brad seems really into Charlie murder because while it's a beat em up, a genre they basically all agree is tired and a product of its era, it has loot which gives it something a little extra to keep him interested

Yet he was completely dismissive about dragon's crown for being just a beat em up

I don't understand
Yup, I don't get it either.
Maybe the art style choices. Can't speak for him though, of course.

So you're gonna be mad if he likes it?

Not at all. I want to know why he likes it and hope he avoids, as I said, the insufferable naval gazing wank fest that everyone else's review is going to be. "Groundbreaking narrative, I cried a dozen times, the first game ever to make me feel, etc. etc." said by a group of nostalgic, pensive, millennial video game nerds playing a game tailor made for nostalgic, pensive, millennial video game nerds. There has already been some ludicrous hyperbole tossed around recently (see: reviews of Brothers).

I'm much more interested to hear Jeff's opinion of it, if he plays it.

Oh, jeez. I didn't realize that the reviews were reaching that level.

A reviewer mentioning a game making him cry always gets laughs out of me.

Just some Strong Sad dude boo-hooing while holding a controller...the imagery is ridiculous.

Brb, I gotta go find that Child of Eden review.

Reviews aren't out yet, I'm speculating, but it's more of an educated guess than pure speculation, judging by how everyone is doing that Twitter thing of "I CAN'T TALK ABOUT THIS GAME BUT GUYS THIS GAME OMG GUYS YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW."

The reviews aren't reaching that level, they don't exist yet. He's bitching about a problem he made up and his main complaint appears to be "People are going to like something I've prejudged as something don't like"

I imagine GB doors are practically always open but it's just really hard to book stuff with their style of content.

Large developers have to go though PR/marketing, and take it from someone worked at a digital marketing agency, we're massive control freaks and if something doesn't fit neatly into our initiative, or is remotely risky, we say no. You don't really want a developer on the couch if they're constantly looking past the camera at PR to make sure they can answer the question. And a lot of indies don't have the time (or in some cases, confidence) to go running around SF self-promoting.

You're projecting hard. I will probably like Gone Home myself, because I'm a pensive millennial video game nerd too. I haven't passed any judgement on the product, unlike some reviewers who had clearly made their mind up about it wayyyy before its launch (not saying Patrick is one of them).

I actually despise that more than hyperbole laden reviews.

That said, I'm still chuckling over Sessler comparing Bioshock Infinite to Chinatown.

I'm perfectly OK with people being hyperbolic in their reaction to Gone Home.

I mean, it sure beats being hyperbolic about one's reaction to, say, Mass Effect 3.

Does the Saint's row 4 QL have spoilers in it?

Some minor story stuff and some non story stuff that you might want to discover/enjoy by yourself. Nothing gamebreaking tho.

And I'm not sure I get the hype behind Gone Home? It looks interesting I guess...but whatever.

So how terrible is the 360 version of the game? It's my only option, for the most part.

It will be hard to say until it is out. They all agreed (after bullying Patrick about it) that Far Cry 3 on consoles was unplayable. While it did chug in places I found it totally playable.

IIRC the console versions of Saints Row The Third were kinda crappy too, so I guess they didn't improve the engine at all.

Given the time scale I would bet they did little more than tweek it. I am not in the - this is fleshed out DLC - camp but they do seem to be iterating on SR3 a lot.

It's all about what platforms you mostly play on. At the time most of the crew were using PC's a lot and accustomed to locked 60, but Patrick didn't have a PC so didn't know better.

I imagine something similar happens if you play on a 120hz monitor.

What makes it worse for SR4 is that you have superpowers that makes you jump super high and run really fast... this increase all the streaming issues that you normally have in an open world game.

Yep. Even when you look at something like GTA 5 that looks nicer graphically, it rarely seems to go that fast or have that many particle effects popping off.

So weird that Brothers and Payday 2 are both, technically, from the same mother company and came out in the same month but are COMPLETELY different games.

Oh, im sorry. You speak for everyone?

Youtube video of it alone has over 440 views since what? A couple hours ago? Not including hits on actual site. People are interested and this isn't the first time they have done 2 quicklooks of the same game. They have actually done quite a few like

Red Faction: Armageddon, Charlie Murder 3 times (if you count the QL road show and the friday show) Catherine and a few others. Not to mention games they have done a 20-30 minute segment on the friday show but have already done a QL before or after. It's not uncommon for GB to look at a game more than once and there is nothing wrong with it.

If you don't care about the game simply do not watch it. Yeah, they are friends but the game is also out in less than a week, is going to be a big game and they have a chance to bring in these guys to do a video on it. Why wouldn't they? It's their job. The one thing i get sick and tired of on GAF aside from the GB flip flop hate is that whenever they do anything with these guys or any other friends in the business people get out their pitchforks like it effects their lives. It's video games, chill out.

Yeah, that's the issue. Sr 3 didn't run that great but I imagine it's worse with the super powers.

I'll wait for some gaffer impressions before buying.

Charlie Murder is very quick to pick up and play, has enough charm and humor to keep me going, and isn't going to demand I put in 30 hours to get anything out of it. Dragon's Crown was horribly ponderous and had zero personality beyond the admittedly gorgeous background art. I found it really boring and tedious to engage with.

When you really like something, overblown hyperbole is arguably the only thing you can give to an audience who wants nothing to do with the slightest concrete details about the actual contents of a video game.

And of course, none of those games are Dota 2 and are therefore irrelevant anyway.

God, I love the rare occasion when someone understands how things actually are.

Charlie Murder looks way like a Behemoth joint to me.

When ya gonna jump into Animal Crossing, Brad?

Have you managed to swipe the 3DS back from your ol' lady yet?

I think that's fair. A lot of the appeal of these things will come from how engaged you are with the context that surrounds the game, since you are just going from left to right and kicking stuff.
That said, I just love how fast the Elf plays in DC. Charlie Murder just looks slow by comparison.

Yeah, Dragon's Crown immediately got more entertaining when I went from the fighter to the wizard, but dozens of hours of grinding loot in the same nine levels just wasn't that appealing when the core combat isn't a primary draw. CM seems fairly short and is at least telling a pretty endearing story along the way.

In general, most of the this-or-that comparisons we might draw between games in our coverage are purely academic, or at least they are for me, since I rarely have time to get back to even the games I really want to keep playing. Don't think I've finished a game I wasn't reviewing all year, even AC Brotherhood.

Brad, since you're checking NeoGAF and not working, I have to ask; why did you guys not talk about the X: Rebirth trailer? Its Millenium Falcon: The Game and its gonna bump Brothers off your top 10 list.

WHO SAYS I CAN'T DO BOTH

First I've heard of that game, but it looks like something we need to keep an eye on.

Yeah, even I'm kind of shocked that I basically did the "Diablo" thing and went through the game at least 6 times to get to level 99 all in the search for better gear. Something about the Elf and how she plays just clicked with me though, so unlike something like Diablo or Torchlight, I didn't mind the grind as much.

For me, it's similar to what happened with Borderlands 1, where I was willing to go through the game over and over again because I wanted to get a teal weapon drop only because I found the FPS combat more interesting than standard ARPG combat.

But yeah, if you're not looking to be invested that heavily into a loot game but still have that loot experience, I can see CM having that appeal. Especially when Dragon's Crown is like a 60 hour game if you are interested in all the high level stuff.

I think Patrick might be into it! And you just know Drew will be all over it cone release.

If I only I could convince my employer that reading Gaf could be applied to my job in any way, shape, or form. I think X: Rebirth, if it is approachable, will convince me to buy one more piece of the Oculus Rift preparedness kit. The flight stick.
