Wow if you visit GB today without logging in you're in for a very big smack in the face.. lol
A little IGN plug too..

Uh, oh, I see where this is going. Jeff gives Rayman Legends a 3/5 star review, he gets called into the CBSi offices to have a chat about his "editorial judgment"...

So, are they not going to post the PAX panel on the site? It's so weird that the Cards Against Humanity panel is available and the not the Giant Bomb panel. Speaking of that, are any of the previous CAH panels archived anywhere? I've always wanted to watch the previous ones, but I thought I heard that they never recorded them.

CAH panel was done in a room with streaming capability, the GB one wasn't.

Patrick mentioned during the morning show that they do a two camera shoot so it's not as easy as Drew just uploading the video straight to the site, it has to be edited and the audio balanced.

Rorie is an olde schoole PC wizard. He knows his shit.

He very obviously does not waste time coming up to speed on games he's not interested in, which makes perfect sense since that is no longer his job. On the other hand, he seems to dig deep into the games that he is interested in. His tastes would most likely come closest to Dave's.

It was Dark Souls, but I believe Ryan also leads the Demon's Souls Quick Look.

Vinny. No one else would touch the game. If I remember correctly it is very early on in the game and Vinny was interested in seeing how it went but the difficulty was putting him off a bit and Jeff was basically WTF is this shit? looks terrible!

EDIT : huh, I looked it up and Dave was in on this QL. Forgot all about that. Also, is programing a fuzzy search hard? So many sites seem bad at it. e.g. "demon souls" brought up nothing on GB, I had to type the whole thing. Can you not just licence the tech ebay/amazon/imdb use?

They've already repeatedly said the panel will be uploaded. They've barely been back in the office yet.

Monday was a public holiday in the US. Their working week only started half an hour ago.

Interesting. Until now he claimed they didn't have the budget for anyone new. Hopefully not just wishful thinking or maybe a case of asking for 4 and hoping to barter down to 2.
Sorry, that's what I meant. Sounded like Jeff wants 4 and CBSi is responding with "How about 0? Does that work for you?"

PAX also just ended on Monday. Normally they're all back on Sunday, but Jeff didn't return until yesterday.

They shot the panel with 2 cameras and since Vinny is out this week, Drew has to go and edit the video first. Patrick mentioned on the show this morning that it'll probably take Drew a while to do so

What the hell is this dickwolf thing about...

Dick Wolfe was the main write for Law & Order SVU

What the hell is this dickwolf thing about...

A joke was made, no fun was allowed, then the same guy kind of made a jerky comment about transgendered people (like a year+ later) and everyone said they'd boycott PAX. No one boycotted PAX. Then he commented on how pulling merchandise relating to the first joke (not the one they said they'd boycott over) was a mistake, and now somehow I've got to read about it every time I go to Giantbomb because the tweets show up on the right hand side :P

I had no idea this whole Dickwolf thing was still, well, a thing. I thought it was done with after the original controversy, guess not.

It was, but then Mike (P-A's artist) brought it up during a panel. Why? Because he can't help but feed every troll out there, always, for all times.

He was absolutely wrong and really kind of nasty with the transgendered thing, but I agree with him about the dickwolves thing, which is what he brought up.

So, Penny Arcade as usual then. lol

Gabe anyway.

How come Penny Arcade haven't launched a new kickstarter campaign to keep the site (or at least the home page) ad free during 2014? Their previous kickstarter to get rid of ads was only for calendar year 2013, and it ran between 7/10/12 and 8/15/12.

Is this indefinite / what happens after a year / are you going to ask again?

This is for a period of 1 year. From January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. We will run the fundraiser again, around this time next year.

I'd imagine they either: A) decided against doing it again or B) didn't want to run that while also setting up two PAXes a month apart.

Gabe is making some, possibly, bad business decisions. I don't understand why he just can't eat the (valid) criticism and move on.

PAX panel aiming for a Wednesday post (re: Drew's twitter).

RE : Penny Arcade.

It is hard to decide who is more annoying. The White Knight bloggers who can't accept that a bad taste joke was made 2 years ago and let it lie or Mike who is trolling them at every oppertunity. Vicious cirlce of cretins.

Sounds about right. Although they are due a replacement for Ryan at least.

It might be what I do for a living but I have some sympathy for management in cases like this. I mean, Jeff admits the business model of ad supported sites is broken and adding to the wage bill isn't going to improve that model any. I think staying small and lean has kept GB going when many a bloated venture has crashed and burned. One of the reasons why I don't buy in to "the merger" theory is that compared to CNet, Gamespot, etc there isn't that much money to be saved by shutting GB. They would lose the paid members and a large chunk of the traffic in return for saving bandwidth and half a dozen salaries. I would be more worried if I worked for Polygon, for example.

Aside from literally standing there and saying nothing but 'next question' when someone inevitably brings it up as a topic on QA, it's not very avoidable. It's like expecting GAF to not bring it up as a discussion. It comes up, so there'll be things to be said about it by everyone, including, amazingly, the PA guys. People are so eager to conflate any type of acknowledgement about it at all with some kind of continued through line about the entire thing, it just reinforces the idea that people love them some controversy void of any context at this point.

Gabe is making some, possibly, bad business decisions. I don't understand why he just can't eat the (valid) criticism and move on.

Because people who are waiting for that thing will never get what they actually want in that they don't know what they're actually expecting. If you yourself as them label it as a horrible unfunny thing as they've been doing, THAT seems to fly over everyones head. It's a bit irrelevant at this point what they say.

It wasn't enough money for them to do it long term. That's why they did the podcast kickstarter.

What flew over my head is what you are trying to say here? This is unintelligible.

I'm saying if you were put in that situation, and like them, are saying literally the same commentary on the humor, either way it's going over everyone's head. People are only acknowledging statements made that fit in with their view of what's going on. It's irrelevant as to who's saying what at this point, people are just regurgitating conversations and tunnel visioning their way through any sort of narrative at this point.

I may be a big old baka because I cannot comprehend what you are saying.

He needs to grow up and stop with his unnecessary defense. PAX is what he's hurting here and that convention, regardless of this whole dickwolves thing, brings a lot more good than bad.

Sometimes I wonder how people who get offended so quickly and easily manage to live life. If Mike from Penny Arcade, a comedic web comic, is enough to piss you off, I can't possibly imagine how unbelievably pissed off literally everything in the entire world must make you.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was Patrick's last PAX. I know he had really mixed feelings going this time, and this will likely lead to him choosing not to go next time.

Which is fine, that's his prerogative. I'm definitely planning on going to PAX East.

Curious if Patrick will sway the entire team to stay home.

I can't believe it was EVER a thing.

Edit: Here's the comic for reference, the joke isn't even about rape, it's just an incidental line of dialogue:

I don't think Giant Bomb can afford to stay home when they already have an extremely limited travel schedule for the year. It would be like them boycotting E3 because of the ESA's questionable practices from 2007. Sure you can not like what they did back then, but not going isn't good for business.

Plus they only have so many fan interactions a year, PAX and PAXEast being probably the two biggest. Cutting those out...well personally at least, wouldn't sit well.

But time will tell.

With how much he and the other GB duders talk up PAX and GDC as great networking opportunities I doubt he'll stop going.
