Since the redesign of Giant Bomb was done. He worked on Gamefaqs after that as well I believe.
It's funny how everybody was worried that Gamespot stuff would end up on Giantbomb...
In fact, when you look at the new Gamefaqs and the screenshots preview of the new Gamespot redesign, they all use the Giantbomb/Comicvine design and menu bar haha. Giantbomb is actually invading Gamespot.
Alexis is from the Whiskey-era. He's just been the head designer since Dave left, I believe.
I think it was from Alexis' twitter... I'll try to find it again.
Edit: Found it... I guess it looks less like GB than I remembered... but still

its more likely official now but it sounds like its been that way even when Dave was there (admiting Alexis is a better designer and he (Dave) just mostly writes code/API/CMS stuff)

GS is just adopting that model.
GB is not merging with GS and it's about Earthbound. I swear this forum just looks for things to get riled up about. You people read WAY WAY too much into stuff, like conspiracy theorist.

What's the story with Dave anyway? Did he quit? Take extended vacation? Retire? I can't quite tell.

Following him on twitter but I dont know what he is doing now. I think he is working on something but then again he might just be dicking around to keep his skills fresh.
He quit to spend time with his new kid after the new GB was built but before work started on the great Gamespot / gamefaqs rebuild which seems to be killing the current team.
I would guess he got a nice chunk of change from whiskey being sold since he was one of the founders and its main designer so he could probably afford to take a extended brake from the work. Rebuilding gamefaqs also sounds like a nightmare most people wouldnt want to be a part of.
Makes it super easy to figure out why they delayed that game 8 months though. A game of just that, even if it was only on the Wii and Vita, would have been painfully dull. Ubisoft made the right decision.

It isn't even that. Alexis did most of the design for the new GB site, he seems to be heavily involved in the GS design - so of course they are going to look similar. Also all the backend they just rebulit from scratch for GB - they are not going to go code a new one for GS.
Assets, database, galleries, code, backend tools, forums, videoplayer (unfortunatley) - I bet they standardise all of that across the sites.
Actually I hope they do use the same videoplayer, as if enough GS users complain about it en masse then they might be able to sort out that CDN issue.
They have a new team dedicated to redesigning the video player.
Also, they'd be a crazy inefficient dev team to not attempt to re-use as much as possible from the GB redesign.
He is involved with the former whiskey engineers who (I think) mostly quit tested/Berman. Definitley a new company they founded but no idea how the ownership breaks down ot if they got outside funds.
He hasn't been super clear what he is doing but it sounds like he is trying to make mass market - or at least less specialised - tools for publishing websites.
I guess it is work he can do from home looking after the kid (puts you full time mothers to shame) while the wife keep her day job. Beats paying for child care and you don't want to put them in nursery too young anyway.
Here's a hint: Look at what the link actually is, not just what the text says.
I know its Giant Bomb still though the point remains though ... John should of stayed on longer before giving up the ghost. Cause I could totally see that happening by December.
