Giant Bombcast - 02/03/15

They could've always taken shots at that game even when Patrick was there. All they'd have to do is fire them diagonally
Har.

But I mean, at least the site had a daily series of videos to counter that opinion. It's not that either view is objective, but that there's representation of both points of view.

I'm not saying you need "fair and balanced" reporting, but you basically have 4 dudes with almost exactly the same tastes in games, which leads to stuff like the Driveclub thing. It seems like only once in a while is a game actually contentious, and even then, it's not that contentious (ie, Destiny).

I agree with you but I wouldn't want one of those driveclub crazies on the podcast

You'd almost imagine Drew would be that guy, but I guess if it's not F1 cars, he doesn't care. lol

I don't mind either. I just know that when it comes to certain games - like say, most games from Japan - I can safely not pay attention to what they have to say. Like, I'm sure their opinion of Yakuza 5 would drive me crazy, but that's probably one QL I never really have to watch unless I am bored.

I think people's problem is that there is no contrarian voice to at least respond to the complaints, so it's just left to hang in the air.

Like, now that Patrick is gone, they can say that Binding of Isaac is a piece of shit game and everyone will just agree.
Oh no, Giantbomb is wrong about a game on the bombcast, we've never been in this situation before.

(I know what you mean though).

Yup if anything it is hilarious to see how vehemently they go at a game I love.

How will you cope!?

To each their own obviously, but I tend to find the QLs of stuff they don't like to be more entertaining than for the things I am fairly sure the QLers will be into.

The period where they all seemed to strongly dislike the Souls games with Jeff leading the way is amusing in retrospect.

There's a large number of games Jeff hates because of "the controls" that control perfectly well.

How will you cope!?
You make it sound like I give a shit. lol
I know what games they like now, so it's very easy to know whether or not I should pay attention to their opinion on a game based on the type of game it is.

Guess what, I bet they'll all hate FF15. Sorry to spoil that 2016 2017 2018 podcast for you. lol

Yeah, it's fun. But I can also understand why someone might get frustrated. But like Alex has always said, find people whose opinions you trust.

If I want to know about Japanese games, I will go to US Gamer and read Jeremy Parish or Kat Bailey. That's why these other outlets exist.

I must admit the Metro Redux QL was the most hilariously frustrating things to watch, because I knew Patrick would have had a completely different attitude if he was the one driving the game in the video instead of Dan.

I just want them to argue more

I want to hear more dan. I feel he disappears for large portions because the bombccast could just as easily be the Jeff and brad cast. Part of that is on Dan though because when vinny is on there he gets in on the conversation a lot.

Yeah, he disappeared for the whole damn podcast!

Dan has different enough opinions from Brad/Jeff that the podcast could easily be more interesting if he was more argumentative.

I kind of hope Phantom Pain inspires some real conflict.

Yeah, Dan has brought some variety in. Nintendo games, Metal Gear's plot, etc. Can't say the variety of their opinions has ever been much of a concern for me, though.

Listening to Drew struggle to explain a concept as simple as a walking mech was kind of hard to listen to. He's really much better behind the camer than in front of it.

Even with the current group, there are plenty of examples where their tastes absolutely do not align.

I've been enjoying Driveclub and think it's a really well made game, but I won't lose sleep over their shitting on it.

@Sega: That's what happens when people don't buy their good stuff (VF, VC, etc). Ain't no charity.

But yeah, my bet is on Atlus_USA is doing all localization for everything under the Sega/Sammy aegis from Japan now.

I don't think anybody is, but as soon as someone even mentions disagreeing with them on Driveclub some people immediately jump in and turn it into a huge argument. It's really weird.

iPads will not be as powerful as these consoles when they are old unless some crazy new technology for batteries is invented in the next few years that provides much more power and much less heat.

Hey hey, Drew cares about more than just F1. I feel like the only reviews he's ever done for the site were DIRT games.

I found it kind of funny that Drew basically admitted that he doesn't play a lot of games and was padding his section with the games they played on the site lol.

Also, I feel like Jeff's disdain for video games of reaching self parody levels. I really don't agree with his opinion on Driveclub at all, saying it's less than mediocre and not even worth playing free. I feel like he took the blowback from his review and took it to another level out of spite or something. And on top of that, he said he stopped playing Majoras Mask because he had to switch masks. That actually got an audible "what?" while I was driving on my commute.

Yeah, I agree.
Yeah, I get it too. Honestly, I just kinda wonder what is going on at GBeast. How long have they been in New York now? It doesn't seem like they're putting out much content...

What I wouldn't give to have Vinny back on the pod. Sigh.

I almost had an audible "what?" as well but then I said "Well this is Jeff."

It's sad I can do that now though.

Hey man, switching between those masks was always bullshit. Being forced to equip them on your item buttons just to wear them and having to take off the currently worn mask in order to equip another mask in the same slot. I don't blame him. He was playing a demo so I assume the game had a bunch of them in a menu. Shit would be overwhelming for anyone not aware of what they do.

Edit: But let's drop this conversation and talk about why B. Jenet is the best SNK fighter girl.

It's funny, basically the mask switching problem would be all but solved if Majora's Mask was on the WiiU. The way they handled the item management was pretty good. Obviously that would have costed way more money to put MM on the WiiU but, yeah.

Damn right. :)

Well one of them, but yes my top 5.

Man, they don't even need a Wii-U to have a non-crap item management screen. All Nintendo had to do is work it exactly like they did on Wind Waker HD: Drag-and-drop any item to a button slot any time you want, even when the game is not paused. Boom, more tolerable item management.

For real.

TV Guide is moving somewhere else so Vinny/Alex had to pack up too.

You are right but, even Nintendo relegates the touch screen to being just a map now a days , or in menu stuff. That would have worked though yeah.

Isn't that exactly what MM3D does?
