Giant Bombcast - 12/09/14 - Small Businessman's Encore

I still don't understand why this is some sticking point given how its easy to live a certain lifestyle that's not being a bum with no place to live.

It just seems bizarre that a man makes it to thirty years old without at least picking up a fuzzy idea of what it would be. Between this and the cooking egg whites thing, I'd actually like a GB feature of "A day in the life" about Dan. What he knows, he definitely knows, but he seems oblivious to shit that most people would've picked up on much earlier. I think it's what makes him interesting as storyteller so it isn't a knock, it's just like... how did you survive all this time?

I think Jeff liked taking over the outposts in Far Cry. Jeff doesn't strike me as a guy who likes replaying games

There haven't been a ton of things he's mentioned replaying, but it happens when he goes big into something. Burnout Paradise is one he mentioned going through a lot at the early days of GB, and when Saints Row 3 came out I think he said he went through it all the way on 360 and PS3, then did some more on PC. I think it just depends on the game, and how it hits him.

Ugh at the part where Brad says Suikoden correctly yet is told to pronounce it as "swee-kuh-den" instead.

I honestly thought that whole thing was settled when MGS came out

It's hard for me to believe none of them have tried SharePlay. Just too busy I guess.

Edit: Also, let Jeff take a little time off from video games. He just doesn't seem to be having much fun with video games anymore. I'm sure he's super overworked anyway.

Dan is the best thing to happen to the bombcast since Vinny left

I like Dan a lot more than I ever thought I would. You can tell he was holding back on the Game Informer podcast.

Yeah, the SharePlay talk was weird. I've used it a few times and I'm not exactly a game journalist. There were six-eight of them on the show this week, right?

(SharePlay is awesome, for the record)

It just seems like something that they would be like,"yeah, we have to check this out." I mean, they said that It sounded too hard to believe. Why would they not want to try it out. Dan didn't even realize that It was out.

(Yes it is)

It's kind of a landmark thing, yeah.

GB gives Toad Tracker 3 stars: GB love hating on Nintendo, don't they?! They always give Nintendo things low scores!
GB doesn't like MGO: You can reliably predict the Giant Bomb hate for anything PlayStation!
GB slams MS for any number of things: Are these guys just being paid by Sony or what?

You couldn't even come up with an actual thing they slammed MS for.

I agree completely with Jeff on it.

I consider myself a fan of Uncharted. I'll play 4, probably really enjoy it, and the footage from PSX looked nice. But I'm not losing my shit in excitement about it, certainly not based on what we've seen so far, and I'd be completely fine if they never made another Uncharted game and went to do something else as a studio instead.

It's fine to be OK with Uncharted 4 without being super excited for it. That's not "jaded".

I think it's a bit jaded. I don't think he has finished any of the Uncharted games at all. He really doesn't like the series itself and that's fine, several GB people aren't big on the series. It's just odd to hear them talk about how much they want to see the 7th of 8th halo game but thinking a 4th uncharted game is the series getting too long in the tooth. It's just them wanting to see more of what they are already fans of.

Plenty of them liked Uncharted 2, as well as Jeff. He wouldn't have let it win GOTY 2009 if he didn't. Stop projecting. He didn't even say anything remotely negative when they were talking about Uncharted 4.

The negativity on uncharted 4 is a little jarring. I know Jeff is jaded but really?

I feel like the positivity on Uncharted 4 is incredibly jarring, but I stopped giving a damn about the Uncharted series before the credits for Uncharted 2 were done. I found the game perfectly fine, but have had zero interest in ever playing anything in the series again.

Not that it's monumental to this discussion or anything, but I'm pretty sure Jeff said he'd lost all interest in the franchise, found the demo to be slow, the climbing to not really be actual game play, etc.

Just finishing out the podcast and damn Brad totally misrepresented The Witcher 2 launch. The game ran just fine on not even the best hardware at launch. Sure, it didn't have the tutorial and extra content they added for the console release, but it was still quite a good launch.

He was so sure, in the face of three people telling him he was wrong.

Jason, I don't think that attack was an OTG but a ground bounce. I speculate that ground bounce could lead to a good ender or reset your opponent or possibly something more juicy like a Tag mechanic in SFxT. I would love to have 2v2 with assists like the MvC series would be mind blowing. My friend thinks there may be a way to cancel the groundbounce into a denjin or groove mode like the Alpha series or you are only able to ground bounce when activating. The gameplay shows that chun activates into that water color motif and ryu activating to get lightning around his arms.

I wouldn't mind a limited roster leading to more every season like KI. Also modes in SFV would be awesome.

It's weird that longtime listeners can still expect every member of the Bombcast to match their taste palette. If I still expected enthusiasm every time Nintendo came up, I'd have gone insane by now.

They're people, not Google Ads.

I'm a big fan of the Halo series, but if you use the textbook definition of "jaded" ("tired, bored, or lacking enthusiasm, typically after having had too much of something") then I guess I became jaded with the Halo series around Reach since it hasn't greatly interested me since ODST. But I don't feel that term applies since myself and probably Giantbomb would be plenty interested in another Uncharted or Halo game if it was more that what we'd already seen 4-5 times before.

There's nothing wrong or "odd" about that either. I'm sure if Uncharted 4 made some bigger changes to its core gameplay more than what was shown in that video they'd have been a lot more interested in it, but like me I just saw more of the same shooting and "oh no, the ledge I was climbing on broke!" moments that the series is filled with and it didn't interest me anymore (and I've only played 2 of the Uncharted games, most of the Giantbomb guys have probably played more than that). In the same way, if Halo 5 is just Halo 4 again with prettier graphics I doubt I'll be interested in that either.

Same here. I played Golden Abyss when I got my Vita because it was on PS+ and I found that game okay. After that though, I had my fill. Uncharted 4 looks nice though but, it isn't something I would buy a PS4 for, personally.

the egg whites i can see but the mortgage thing? not really

especially when that entire concept hinges on something you might be doing in the far future if you decide to think about it (i.e "the next step" of your life). As said before if he was more involved (like say in the business of home finance/some related field or he tried to research it and didn't get it) then i would agree.

Yeah, reading through this thread is crazy. People nitpick the hell out of what ultimately amounts to individual tastes.

Like, the vast majority of the crew said UC4 looks great, but you'd never know that from this thread.

Do people really just not listen all that closely? First of all, Jeff and Brad played shitloads of SF4 at release and I'm pretty sure Vinny played a bit too.

Secondly, they clearly conceded that there was a difference in the level of detail and "inkiness" but on the whole, they looked very similar in motion to a casual observer which you can't really dispute.

It's probably just because I've played hundreds of hours of SF4 that it's apparent to me. Like I said, some people might not see a drastic difference in art style because it's a 3D game again. Obviously the difference is far more pronounced when going from 2D to 3D, but not 3D to 3D of a different style.

No I wouldn't say they slammed MS over that. It was more of a "Hey Drew is MCC working yet? No?"

In comparison they absolutely gutted Ubisoft and AC Unity. MS and MCC got off relatively light

They talked about MCC and speculated on what 343 could do to make up for it for like... ten minutes on this cast or the last one.

The first time I heard the egg whites thing, I was at work and went, "oh, what the shit?" real loud. Some lady thought I was talking to her. So I explained what had happened and she went, "that guy must be making that up." I guess we all live with our own special kind of blinders on, it just seems like that (and mortgages) would come up in a sitcom or some televised anything ever. Hard to avoid, if you will. But again, it's part of what makes Dan the Dan that he is, so I don't consider it a complaint. Just confusing, heh.

Man it can be frustrating when they straight up bag on things before ever getting their hands on stuff. It's really frustrating where one person will not like something for reasons and the other(s) will completely throw away their excitement for something because of it. Like on a bombin in the am Alex saw Birdman and hated it and colored Patrick's excitement so much that he reduced it from a must see to a rental on iTunes when it comes there.

But whatever, they are still fun to listen to and wouldn't let their negativity bother me that much. They like what they like, and there's not much that can be done about that. Like it wouldn't surprise me if they don't have Smash in their top ten of the year. That doesn't make it a bad game because of that.

Vinny's "Fuck you! No way!" outburst at the pancake story made me lose it while shopping for groceries, making me look insane as a result.

Thanks Vinny!

What? Jeff went all-in on Microsoft over the MCC.

Just finishing out the podcast and damn Brad totally misrepresented The Witcher 2 launch. The game ran just fine on not even the best hardware at launch. Sure, it didn't have the tutorial and extra content they added for the console release, but it was still quite a good launch.

All I can guess is that Brad maybe got confused with Fallout: New Vegas or something.

I'm agreeing with Jeff.

It has great visuals, but other than that it's another Uncharted game despite some new additions and while that's okay it's also not a reason to praise that (long) PSX footage as the second coming of Jesus like a lot of people do.

I think that's downplaying the additions though. Things like the verticality and improved stealth make it very different from Uncharted 2, this sites GOTY that year.

I still love the podcast, I just feel Uncharted doesn't get enough credit for its mechanics and it seems like that is continuing with U4. Bringing in a lot of the lessons they learned on the last of us

The fact that you can reliably predict the Giant Bomb hate for anything PlayStation is sad.
