Giant Bombcast - 12/15/15

I don't understand the alternate orders for the Star Wars films.

And yeah, RotS is still like a 4/10 bad movie but compared to ep 1 and 2 it seems real good

http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/

It's mostly to preserve the actual shocks and surprises of the original 3 movies (siblings, father, yoda, etc). Plus, it completely removes the first movie which has no greater revalance to the rest of the story and torpedoes midecloreans which ruins the whole "space magic" fun of Jedi. All in all, it works surprisingly well. I was totally shocked at how you can skip Episode 1 because they reintroduce every character in the second and third movies.

That viewing order for Star Wars sound stupid and the justification I found online for not watching order they were released is really dumb too.

Come on, that single shot at the end ruins it? Please. It's just comes off as someone trying way too hard to make a thing.

Is there any series where release order is not the most sensible to go through?

That just sounds like you found a crazy person, as that's not even a justification for watching the movies out of order. That's more of a justification for not watching the "Specialized" editions of the movie (disclaimer: I'm a crazy person that has the "despecialized" editions on Blu-Ray and really like them).

As for your second question, there aren't many movies where they aren't released in chronological order, or where the prequels kind of spoil/ruin major plot points of what are supposed to be their sequels.

Man...this Die Hard talk is making me sad. Even considering that it's not a Christmas movie? Come on.

Edit: Damn Mary. I like both Cinci Chilli and LaRosa's pizza and I wasn't born in the area and think that Ohio is a massive waste pile. What's got your goat over Chilli and Pizza? You could have at least ragged on Marions or Casanos for being burnt cardboard.

I think Danny mentioned before that Gamespot management doesn't care about podcasts, so they only do them on the side. Like Danny being a guest on TotalBiscuit's show yesterday. They don't seem to get any traffic on more personal content. Even The Point seems to struggle and that's more of a research heavy show. The Lobby only gets by because they get multiple uses out of it, barely anyone watches it live.

I feel like the post Gerstmann-gate exits really hurt Gamespots personality based stuff.

It was then where IGN really grew its personality bsaed stuff with Greg and GS suffered and it wasnt until Danny arrived at the SF office that I felt like they had a unique voice again. Before that Chris Waters being a git was the best they had.

Plus remember that one podcast where Ryan was a guest and he spent the entire thing just beating the hosts down for being shit? Good times.

Its a shame the point isnt doing better but TBH even as a fan of Danny I barely know when its on and only catch the odd episode when I see it posted elsewhere.

Well that's all the evidence I need.

I actually don't think skyline chili is shit, but it would be 100x better if they just didn't call it chili.

And Cincinnatians should promote goetta as their civic pride food.

Dan just casually dropping his fondness for chocolate covered strawberries gave me the biggest laugh of the podcast for some reason.

It's like a weird coney sauce that randomly gets used as spaghetti sauce. It's just weird and just not chili. Its stupid.

It's not good as a stand-alone item, but it is still good. Has to be on a coney or spaghetti. A good stand-alone chill has to have beans anyway. I wouldn't eat Skyline or Goldstar by itself. But it's not a bad food.

Cinci should promote more of its German heritage. We have the biggest Oktoberfest celebration outside of the actual Oktoberfest every year. We also have some pretty damn fine beers and a ton of great new breweries popping up all around the city. They should promote that way more.

I've been here 7 years and never met anyone who eats Gold star. I can't imagine how bad it is if people religiously choose Skyline.

Moerlein is also shit though. Sorry!

Skyline chili = shit chili

Skyline sauce = good

Problem solved. Just don't call it chili, it's not.

Also, being from new haven, ct and recently moved to cinci, I can agree pizza everywhere in Ohio is shit.

Like Mary, I'm a Columbus -> Cincinnati transplant. She is totally right about La Rosa's pizza. It is garbage cardboard pizza.

Skyline is good when you get it on a hotdog covered in a giant pile of radioactive yellow cheese.

Moerlein is also shit though. Sorry!

That's why we have Rhinegeist, Mad Tree, and 50 West!

It's basically the same except they use chocolate instead of cinnamon. I think there's some weird ass split between them and if you're on one side or the other then you never cross over. I've lived in the area for about half my life and never ate either till sometime after college and either are fine. People are just stubborn about food rivalries.

Christian Moerlein is okay, but there are way better beers in Cinci. Urban Artifact, Rhinegeist, Listermann's, even Mad Tree is better and has a better variety. Plus there's a decent beer scene in Dayton with Warped Wing, Eudora, and a few others. We have good beers, just not many known outside of the state.

Chocolate covered fruit of any kind is just a Trojan horse to trick people into eating fruit, like those recipes that "hide" mashed up cauliflower and stuff in macaroni and cheese.

Mary was a great addition, that rant was awesome. More appearances in the future, I hope.

Looking forward to Jeffcast next week, last year's skeleton crew cast was pretty fun.

Can't agree with Mary on the Downwell v. Spelunky replay thing, in both games the rogue-lite elements mean that the early levels are about setting yourself up better for the harder levels to some extent, Downwell is a lot more basic/arcade-like, so the earlier levels play out way more the same every time than in Spelunky.

Like the famous cookie trap?
That was a great moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W77F1cY9HJM

Don't look it up on Urban Dictionary

That's actually why I stopped playing Downwell much faster than Spelunky. Just felt like going through the motions to get to the interesting part. I used to hate that in the bit.trip games as well.

That reasoning by a crazy person is in the link you posted.

It's been like a decade of people talking about Die Hard being a Christmas movie, do we really need this lame-ass e-mail?

Brad keeping up the tradition of shitty e-mails.

Maybe it's just the quality of the listener. Beastcast typically doesn't have shit emails.

One of the most meh bombcasts in a while.

Kinda have to agree. Mary's cool, but there was zero chemistry between them.

Plus, VR talk is always a snoozefest. I have, had, and will always listen to these guys talk about literally anything, but I may have to draw the line there.

Mary was good except for talking about Downwell for way too long, but that was Brad and Jeff's fault for extending the conversation by continuing to ask her questions.

Preach, Mary. Skyline and LaRosa's are shit. Seriously, LaRosa's is Sbarro tier garbage.
Gino's in Toledo is much, much better.

I wish Mary was on more GB stuff, she's hilarious. The saga of Mary and the Calzone was one of the best things to come out of GB Extra Life this year.

I'm no native english speaker so... is it me or this Mary girl has a very strong accent?

Not that I mind honestly, I think she fit well in the podcast

I'm excited for next week's Bombcast.

I hope it's just Jeff reading emails alone in a room
Everyone should send him in fake DSiWare game summaries so that the Nintendownload Express can ride again.

I wouldn't say so much a strong accent as much as pretty strong vocal fry, but I guess I never really paid it any attention.

I don't even know what accent that would be, it only sounded like she would extend some words likeeeee foreeeeeeveeeeerr

Didn't seem to go on that long. He point about making the beginning of Rogue-likes/lites fun for reasons different from when you start out when you've played it a hundred times isn't something I hear brought much, if at all.

Feel like this is the 3rd or 4th variation of the "what's it like being internet popular and having creepy fans" email in the last couple months, with brad stating "it's fine but you get those people who say stuff about you that are completely wrong" and I almost thought I was listening to a previous podcast at that point.

Except what you described is every prequel.

Do you not understand that a prequel isn't just any movie that is set before another movie, it is specifically a movie that is set before but made after?

These alternate orders are fixing a problem that only exists if you don't understand how this works and are trying to watch them wrong in the first place. The fact that the prequels are set earlier does not mean you watch them first. You watch the movies in the order they were made and released.

The prequels don't spoil anything about the classic trilogy because they're not supposed to be viewed before the classic trilogy.

I don't know what is so hard to understand about this.
