Giant Bombcast - 12/16/14

Hearing Brad talk about Destiny I fully expect for him to not only convince the crew it is not the most dissapointing game of the year but also have a spot on the overall top ten.

Those people are wrong. It's second to only DMC3 for me. DMC4 is half a game. DMC1 is a little bit dated, and yea...dmc2...

Not the point. I honestly don't care if you think DmC is better or if you think others are wrong. I'm just correcting them that they said that DMC4 is widely seen by a majority of fans as the second worst when it's actually DmC that is.

ah ok my misunderstanding, haven't had a chance to listen yet, apologies

I was thinking about that too. I'm scared he might even argue against putting it on there, but I think Jeff and everyone else will shut him down on that.

I think Brad has realistic impressions of destiny. He probably wants to fight for it because the shooting is great, and he might fight Jeff on being the MOST dissappointing game this year, but I don't think he'll push it into the GOTY conversation

Jeff seems on the fence enough, that I could see Brad winning a #10 spot on the list for Destiny, with some deals. If he can sway Jeff to keep it from winning Most Disappointing - it might make the final list.

I think destiny is more of a guilty pleasure to Brad than an actual top 10. He enjoys it, but I doubt he'd put it over the stuff like Far Cry, Bayo 2, Shadow of Mordor, Sunset Overdrive, etc.

Jeff was born to pitch Crunchy Roll to his coworkers over royalty free music, wasn't he

Shilling anime is his true calling. He should hang up the trending gamer trophy and move on to bigger and better things.

I don't know why they transfer ther personal disdain for DMC4, a game I don't think any of them played, when it's the best selling game in the series by far and (as you say) clearly ranked ahead of DmC by fans of the franchise.

I'm still bummed Vinny never got to watch Brad play the best one. He really would have enjoyed some of those cutscenes.

It hurts a little when I hear FPS fans talking about getting tired of a game simply because they ran out of things to unlock. Crazy how the whole prestige mechanic has become the primary reason for people to play certain games.

They do say that 3 is far and beyond the best one but that they still enjoy DmC the second most of the 5 games, although like you said, that doesn't really translate to the fan majority's opinion. Personally I'm not gonna talk about my opinions here of DMC/DmC since there's like 6 other threads out there where I can, but I just wanted to correct them that the majority of Devil May Cry fans think 4 is better than DmC.

They probably played 4, but were probably disappointed that it's not really a finished product like DMC3 and DmC were. Also, with DmC being more accessible to people who don't play character action games much and I don't think most of the giant bomb crew is really experienced with that genre.

I know it's cliche to complain about destiny, but I've never heard so much about a game that made it sound like it's not for me. Practically everything I hear about the design puts me off, it's almost painful to listen to.

I don't know about Dan and Jason, but I don't recall any of the regular Bombcast crew talking about actually playing 3 or 4 over the past six plus years of podcasts. I do recall vicarious negativity around the repeated levels and replaying of content. That flaw didn't really bother me since the combat and core gameplay was so good. I mean, some people will happily play the same levels over and over again in Destiny because they find the shooting so satisfying. So it puzzles me that Backtracking thru the levels in DMC4 with a character who plays totally differently (and probably has the tightest and most diverse move set in any action game) is supposed to be this deal breaker.

I'm pretty sure I remember Brad saying he never played 3, which was why I was hoping he'd actually get to it for Bradley May Cry. It's a shame he stopped after 1 (and almost a bigger shame that he contemplated playing 2 before touching 3). I remember "fantasizing" Brad picking the "Yellow" continue system over "Gold" in DMC3, not knowing what it would do, and dooming himself to a more difficult playthrough than necessary.

I'd still like to see a revival of that series, though Vinny would be missed.

The entire NPD segment was embarrassing. All the information that Brad was stumbling across is easily found in this thread.

Like, sure I know its not the GB's crew thing and I mostly don't care but Smash was #3 game of the month and wii u had a 10% increase from last year

You expect Brad to check his sources?

Using the word embarrassing for this situation is honestly slightly embarrassing.

I really don't think it's an overstatement to say that CoD4 has ruined multiplayer shooters in that way. I tried BF4 during one of those free weekends and it was absolutely overwhelming how much crap you can unlock.

I think it's mostly a dealbreaker for people who just want to blast though the game once and are there mostly for the spectacle. IMO that's also a big part of why Revengeance and Bayonetta went over better with those people.

Either way they were indeed wrong about how DMC4 is viewed by the fanbase.

Play more CS:GO.

I would have liked to see him play more of the games, but it's also a "careful what you wish for" sort of thing, because Brad tries to just brute force his way through challenging stuff, and then gets petulant when it doesn't work. :P

Battlefield is the worst when it comes to unlocks.

I don't remember the specifics from the beta but I do recall Hardline being less terrible in that regard.

I asked in another thread, but maybe people here would know best.

In last week's episode, Jeff mentioned that at the last E3, both Sony and Microsoft were fighting over who got a certain game at their press conference. The decision came down to the last minute. In the end, whoever didn't get it, felt slighted.

Does anyone know what game they were talking about?

I'm thinking No Man's Sky, but I dunno.

I'm not sure how to feel about Brad consistently reading out those "this is what my firend/sibling/partner imagines the GB crew is like" emails. I guess they should be spaced out more?

Wii tablet jokes in 2014 and half-truths about NPD, pls

I'm afraid that they will read a bunch of those on their all email podcast.

That's what I thought. Especially since it's pretty much an arena deathmatch type shooter.

I think they're amusing when it's more about picturing what a person looks like just from listening to their voice and uncomfortable if it's psychoanalysing and insults, which was what I got from the email in this show. Either way they don't lead to great discussion.

I was surprised that he knew the leaked Xbone/PS4 numbers but not the more official WiiU numbers.

I hoped he would play DMC3 SE HD instead of DMC1 HD on Normal, because (using Gold Orb mode) it's a much more modern and less punishing game to play. I knew there'd be never be enough time to play all the games.

I'm at the email section and I feel like skipping it, now. Really dislike these, and many other gimmick emails of the past. I couldn't care less what someone who can't use Google for a couple of seconds thinks the members look like.

After listening to a fair few episodes it's clear Brad sees Nintendo as irrelevant in gaming basically. At least they have one Nintendo advocate in Dan, but he just always sounds bored or negative when they are brought up. Yet they are always happy to spend ages on Destiny every episode even though they seem to hate it. There's tons of games out why focus on one you don't like? It's weird the 8-4 people use this site to promote their podcast as they are big jrpg and portable fans, basically the total opposite of the Bomcast crew.

Jeff, the 32X version of Doom is probably tied with the SNES for worst version. It might even be worse, if only because it's missing the entirety of the third episode and the music sounds like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2oyweqZ7WM

SNES version is actually playable. I know, I beat the game on the SNES. The 32x and the 3do versions have terrible issues that make then unplayable.

Actually DmC is considered the second worst Devil May Cry game by a majority of fans.

And yet its the only one I actually liked.
