Giant Bombcast 4-10-12

I couldn't picture his face given his name. Are there listeners that love GB so much they delude themselves to believe they're in the cast's circle of friends and enjoy this banter?
No, I don't delude myself into anything because they've had a large enough presence in GB for me to know who they're talking about. Did you never listen to any of the E3 stuff?

It's not like they spent the duration of the podcast saying "oh man, remember that time we were all in the same room and funny stuff happened when so-and-so walked in!"

Allow me to get precious for a moment. This podcast also demonstrates the worst of the Bombcast. Post-conference in-jokes on the podcast HAS. TO. STOP.

It's not funny. We weren't there. It feels exclusive to listen to.

I don't know 'Johnny V', I don't know 'Drake', I never will, I don't really care if I don't. I wasn't there and I don't know them. They're your friends. That's nice. Leave it off air.

Then don't fucking listen.

If you want serious video game journalism go listen to weekend confirmed or some other wankery.

Let me let you in on something. In all media there are in-jokes or jokes that only long-time listeners/viewers would understand or get. That is the norm. There are shout outs, there is talk about personal things, etc. If anything it is sort of a reward for long-time listeners. Can't run every second of a show/podcast based on a new listeners.

What the fuck are you talking about? Nope I am not deluded and have some relationship with any of them in my head.

They do seem like pretty awesome gang to have a beer with and talk about games no doubt, but knowing who John Drake is who has been on so much of their shit doesn't mean I live in some fantasy world where Jeff is my wife and I certainly do not have a 1:1 anatomically correct doll of Vinny that I keep under my bed (really I don't), but Giantbomb is a personally driven site and this is the kind of stuff they do, there's lots of alternatives if you don't like it.

Johnny V and John Drake are Giantbomb regulars at this point. They have been on podcasts, are repeating guests on the Big Live Live Show, TNT's, Quicklooks, Press events, etcetera.

Get that sand out of your vagina. I bet most of the semi-regular podcast listeners know exactly who these people are.

If you were so worried about who Johnny V is, you could have just searched "Johnny V" on Giant Bomb, you know. Drake, too. They come up in a search.

LOL @ most responses. Either make me laugh or prove my point.

Oh Johnny V is some guy with chest hair? Crazy! Now I totally love 3rd hand conversations about jokes they made with/about him a week ago.

I do listen to the E3 stuff and panels, they're great when people are brought into the conversation on the actual broadcast. But I swear after every conference (GDC/PAX/E3) the next podcast immediately following contains 10-15 minutes of 'Oh hey guys, <in joke> AHAHAHAH I KNOW RIGHT, JOHHNY V!'

As has been said, it's the perils of a personality-driven site.

It's not really an in-joke when the thing that happened with Johnny V was shown publicly at the Harmonix panel and they even mention where it was from so if you didn't know you could just search "Johnny V Harmonix" on Youtube and it's like the first result.

I wonder if anyone will have seen (and talk on the next Bombcast) about Cabin in the Woods. Patrick in particular I think would love it.

I always figured he was the most expendable person on the crew. He'll be the first to go when Giant Bomb is eventually merged/consolidated into Gamespot. (Oh shit I went there!)

You forget who you're talking about. He'll leave to Polygon, and soon after GB will get consolidated into Gamespot. Polygon will soon go back to being Vox Games, and then cease to exist, and Patrick will go crush Game Informer.

Where is the buzz surrounding Cabin in the Woods coming from? I hadn't even heard of it until a couple of days ago. I like to think I'm not that out of touch with whatever the mainstream fancy du jour is.

(kinda) Smart Horror instead of Gore Porn in an instant +1. Also Joss Whedon is knocking about. Comparisons to Evil Dead in recent reviews knocked hyped up a lot too

Sometimes the best moments on the BombCast are the ones they don't hang on...

Ryan: "Sell me on Lost Planet 3"
Jeff: "That's not my job"

Love it.

Glad I wasn't the only one that caught that exchange. Best moment of the podcast.

He did see it and recommended people see it. At least that's what he posted on his Twitter.
Awesomesauce, hope he talks about it.

Ugh, I always find Whedon and Raimi's stuff ham-fisted and corny. I think I'll pass.
I would describe the movie as a love letter to other horror movies, I thought it was excellent in every way. I am not a huge Whedon fan, and similarities to Evil Dead are mostly cosmetic.

I would without hesitation recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in horror movies. In general also I would advise people interested in seeing it to avoid trailers and definitely spoilers on the internet.
