Maya's handling the best friend role to a tee. We'll know by the end of the season what her home life is and if she is the Shawn she'll be moving in with the Matthews before long. The only thing I need this show to deliver on when it comes is the inevitable Shawn/Maya moment. This is the passing of the torch moment as a fan I want to see. Riley's in Episode 1 was really great but this one has to tug at heartstrings because of what those characters represent and I have a feeling the moment won't be wasted.

Maya's family life is the focus of next week's episode.

What a lovely episode, the way Cory was with Maya was sweet. Also slowly finding out stuff about Maya. Also Maya and Lucas have good chemistry together as well. I almost wish if this series continues for another few years, maybe Lucas and Maya get together instead of Lucas and Riley.

Also I think everyone of the cast members in this episode (apart from Lucas/Farkle since they weren't in it much) did great in this weeks episode. Slowly they are all finding their place so to speak.

Good episode.

Maya's family life is the focus of next week's episode.

Great, if so I'm really looking forward to that episode then.

Ehhh I never commented but it's getting better overall. I think I need to get the old one out of my mind because I'm constantly comparing it and it just doesn't match up. Things seem a lot more forced here and it makes sense why, they're trying to fit into something that was already worn out. But even still, it comes off as TOO forced at times and not very subtle. Even the "lessons", which are good, they are no Feeny classics.

All in all it's still early though. I do wonder if they'll ever get as serious/dark as the original did at times with the drama. I feel like as of now it doesn't completely fit the aesthetic of the show but I feel like it's what separated boy meets world from others. Also yeah +1 on maya.

The show might give me diabetes with episodes like that. They're so sweet. I really need to get myself a R1 DVD player so I can get the original show on DVD to see how they stack up.

Mixed feelings about this. While I'm glad that the disney channel is stepping up its game a bit when it comes to these kind of shows, I thought that in 2014 we were beyond the full-house "life lesson per episode" idea and at times it seems overly sacchrine/contrived.

Lastly it seems like everyone other than the main character is the main character.

I don't know, I see why they do it. Kids love cliches, because to them, it's new, cliches don't even exist to kids.

I think the show's goal actually is to differentiate itself from other Disney ones by going back to those "life-lesson" roots that were prominent in the '90s. I personally love the structure of Girl Meets World. In each episode, Cory teaches his class about some historical event, and by the end, this serves as an allusion to the episode's overall theme. The last episode had him teach about Darwin's theory of evolution, and by the end, the lesson was that traditions don't need to just come and go; they can evolve into new ones. It's nice, imo. It's not too subtle, but subtle enough, and this is all done while also fleshing out the characters and developing them.

Well the team that wrote BOY is the same team writing GIRL. So yea the structure is the same, I just haven't grown to love these characters yet. Still undecided on the show, but I want to love it dammit.

Yeah that was pretty dumb. Everyone knows that poor kids have low end samsungs or iphone 3gs (honestly that would be hilarious).

I need to see these episodes but that seems like a cool sign to her poor heritage, you never really knew Shawn was poor by looking at him.

This show needs to do what Boy Meets World was too afraid to do and have Maya and Riley hook up.

I'm still bitter that I never got the Cory & Shawn passionate embrace that the show built up for so long.

Maya's family life is the focus of next week's episode.

I wouldn't call what I just watched a full on focus on Maya's family life. Some passing mentions to how it affects her as a person but until the Matthews "go to the trailer park" we haven't seen the family life of Maya as we need to anyway.

Episode was great regardless and they're building up to Maya come live with us forever and ever & whatever is bubbling between Lucas & Maya will be a test for Riley coming soon. Maybe not this season but it is coming.

I think he means Girl Meets the Truth that airs on August 1th.

Decent episode. Writing is still a bit forced but early goings of a new tv show I guess. That can get more natural.

Farkle had the line of the ep though with the whole you're a bunch of losers thing.

The Pilot was all over the place trying to do too much, but it had flashes of great stuff.

Episode 2 was much better.

Need to watch the others.

And fuck Ben for doing that to his nose...so distracting.

Looks like Topanga gets her own little story in the next episode. looked on IMDB and saw this:

Girl Meets Popular (S1, Ep6)
Riley becomes the queen of the nerdy group and enjoys it until she learns to be herself. Meanwhile, Topanga is conflicted about her law firm working to shut down a local mom and pop bakery.

(Not really spoilerish but idk, just put it in spoiler tags just incase)

Oh gawd, I wonder if this is related to the rumor from when the show was in production...

Late to this thread, but I'm glad to hear the show's pretty good. But, I feel like Disney has come full circle on fashion since the '90s and we're about 2 years and a blurry filter away from these people looking like they're dressed as characters from Saved By the Bell.

Next episode is called "Girl Meets Popular" - When Maya doesn't get invited to a party, Riley still decides to go but learns the party's only for unpopular classmates.

Holy cow, isn't that exactly the plot of an episode of Boy Meets World?

They easily could just recycle those plots and allow for a female perspective. It's such an easy way out though but it's not a bad base to start with.

lol I think it is.

Not like the kids are going to give a crap. Maybe it'll link back and Corey will be like, "Yeah, I know what you're going through."

I haven't seen the show yet, but how many more years are we going to realistically wait until they start having sex?

I like it but won't enjoy it probably till they are in high school

That Topanga was gonna run a bakery where the students would hang out afterschool
At this point, Topanga could literally be played by anyone. I'm so angry that she's been the generic mom so far.

WHOO!!!!

At that point, I would hope they move it to ABC Family.

There won't be sex. This isn't degrassi. There will be implied relations if the show lasts that long though. But yeah I'm interested to see how highschool years will go. I expect more drama.

Though young BMW had some great moments. I was watching a rerun on tv the other day and it was the one where they go on that trip and cory was talking to the dolphin and topanga overheard. Adorable!

Well, Corey and Topanga didn't have sex until the 7th season and only after they were married.

Though it was implied that Eric and Shawn lost their virginity much earlier in the show's run

D'awwww another BMW scene I love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yBDUHB2ZhQ

Stuff like that makes me think less of this show where it comes off as forced and cheesy and trying too hard. Maybe the actors just aren't as good it's hard to tell. But maybe it's just early going and they'll get more natural/comfortable as it goes, which happens for a lot of new shows.

Actors are likely still becoming more comfortable in the roles and with each other. First season issues said. Which is why I always feel first seasons should be given a pass unless they're completely horrible. That scene is from the third season of BMW so not really a fair comparison at this point. I don't know the acting history of the younger actors on the show but I believe Ben Savage had been acting for a number of years in TV and film before Boy Meets World. Granted in small roles due to his age but he likely was more comfortable in front of the camera. Especially with his older brother being around. I think the same was the case for Topanga's actress to a degree.

All this, plus people tend to forget the first season of boy meets world was much more cheesy and a bit forced. Second season still had a bit of that too. Gotta give the actors and writers time to get into the roles. Boy meets world they had to figure out what to make the show and now they need to figure out how to balance the old with the new. Its been stabilizing already so just give it time.
