Githyp: "CoD: WWII Player Base on Steam Highest for the Franchise Since 2012"

Also 395% increase compared to last year's Infinite Warfare:

Things looked grim for the Call of Duty series last year when Infinite Warfare debuted with 76% less players than 2015's Black Ops III. And if you looked at the ‘mostly negative' reviews for Call of Duty WWII's open beta on Steam (which have now been removed), things looked even worse for the franchise this year.

But early player counts for the beta allowed us to predict that the franchise was due for a big comeback. And sure enough, now that the game has officially launched, we can see that WWII has helped return Call of Duty as one of the most played games on Steam.

Debuting at #8 on Steam's most played, WWII's multiplayer saw a peak of 56k players over its launch weekend. Combined with the singleplayer numbers, WWII peaked with an impressive total of 76k players. That's a 395% increase when compared to 2016's disappointing Infinite Warfare – the last title in the series which only brought in a peak of 15k players.

An even more impressive statistic is that WWII's player base on Steam is the highest for the Call of Duty franchise since 2012's Black Ops II. The second installment in the Black Ops series had a peak of 70k players for the multiplayer and 99k when combined with singleplayer and zombies five years ago on PC.

It's a really fun game. If you expect anything other than the standard CoD experience underneath though, you will be disappointed. I'm having a great time with multiplayer with my friends, and it should have legs too.

They didn't release this on Windows Store as well? Might reach a new record there as well with 20 players.

Any word on the cheating problems? Apparently, the beta was rife with aimbotters, and Activision said they'd address it, but I haven't been able to find anything definitive on the subject since launch.

I've played for ~7 hours and have run into none

Uncomparable, it's like saying give me pc pubg numbers when the Xbox version is out. For a cod on pc this is absolutely crazy though.

I didn’t say they were incomparable. I said they were insignificant. There’s a difference.

Not a lot of overlap between console COD players and PC COD players so these numbers won’t indicate if the whole WWII move was the right call or not

Will anything ever dethrone Cod? It's GTAstatus at this point. Long live the king who killed FPS forever.

TitanFall was what killed shooters. Halo and CoD have been chasing that TF mobility trend for years now.

Thank god Activision finally pulled their heads out of their asses and gave us a traditional CoD game this year. Now we just need 343 to do the same.

I've run into one aimbotter in 13 hours. There's been some claims against a few other players, but nothing that I noticed. I haven't played in the last few days though, so the hacks could have spread a bit more.

The game is really fun. I haven't played a CoD game since BO2 on console, and while it's not necessarily better, I do think WW2 is a very good CoD game. Multiplayer wise, it feels pretty well balanced, I feel like I can use almost any gun on most maps in most modes.
