It looks fine to me. I don't mind playing Faye and it was honestly a given that other pantheons would show up. Maybe a bit *much* all at once, but we'll see.
Gonna be real interesting if Faye meets those from the Greek saga who met their end by her husband's hand; moreso if they find out not only is he alive, but also about Atreus, which I feel like it's leading to anyway.
She's probably not the only one trying to get back.
Gameplay looked fun, though I'm not necessarily sold on chats with Blue Raspberry Jell-O as opposed to Mimir, for example.

A lot of people in this thread are going to be upset when it wins GOTY next year. I don't even know what competes with it in 2027? Maybe Intergalactic? It could be a legendary moment in time

This was an odd reveal. I really don't think that 20 mins did it justice, as reading the blog post and seeing some of the gifs of the combat/skills, that looked much more interesting. Also seems weird to show off, seemingly, the first 20 mins of the game.
Just a simple pro and con list with this overall:
Pro
-Gameplay does look fun to me (I really did enjoy 2018 and Ragnarok)
- I really like the idea of going to where gods from all pantheons died. Pretty cool instead of settling for a single pantheon as in previous games
Con
- another female sony lead. I don't mind playing as female characters, but it's CLEARLY a pushed trend by then at this point. I don't get how people deny this anymore. Faye just doesn't seem interesting to me to want to play as. I get the first story revolved around her but she was barely in the game.
- The cube. Like come the fuck on, what are we doing here. That is just mad corny
- No release window. Seems a little odd with how much they showed today. They did announce coming "soon". I could be wrong but I don't really remember that type of language when Sony shows off games with no date or window

If the game showed a shorter segment that had less walking sim and didnt show the comedic talking sword and D&D gelanteous cube, it would had been better received. Who knew a gelanteous cube even existed outside D&D. I didnt.
But, give them credit for showing it. Because now gamers know what they are getting into instead never knowing about it and getting blindsided by it on day one.

Faye herself isn't the dealbreaker. I can imagine a game with her as the lead without it being garish and cheap.

Doing another 30 hours on the GoW2018 Combat Treadmill with worse aesthetics just doesn't sound thrilling. It was just strong enough for 2018, which would stand as a classic if it didn't keep getting cashed in on with these uninspired follow-ups.

The cube and the ribbon… is where I'm baffled. That is so antithetical to anything we've seen from
GoW in any iteration. It's like you handed the franchise over to 2026 James Gunn. Love Woll, love the graphics and the idea of the god afterlife, and the parallel time period to 2018, but the cube is one of the dumbest things imaginable to include in this franchise. And the dialogue we heard definitely didn't calm those anxieties.
Past that though… I'm intrigued and interested. I did not finish 2018 because I didn't find the gameplay itself fun. I recognized the art and the craft of it, but did not personally enjoy playing it. Accepted it and moved on. I am a GoW OG guy. But I'm curious about this enough that I probably will pick it up. Unless more red flags pop up. Using purple also brings up the wrong kind of comparisons.
Also, definitely got a Forspoken flashback when the power went to her hands… HOWEVER, the one thing about that abomination that wasn't an atrocity WAS its combat. So, that's not exactly a bad thing.

Too much happens in the first 20 mins imo, the pacing feels off. You go from dead to instantly meeting your friendly pet, earning a special weapon & getting a side kick. Was this made for tiktok brains?!
There's no sense of " I earned that" or "I gained it's trust". Everything is almost instantly yours & on your side. Also the cube just sounds like it's from Disney or something, like it's there to guide the player & insult your intelligence the entire game because tiktok brains need something constantly talking to you & telling you where to go.

Still looks and feels like an expansion to GoW: Ragnarok. I used to remember back when the PS3 end sequels had a jump in scope and presentation. It doesn't look bad, but kinda disappointing we're still seeing narrow pathways and press R2 to do awesome shit.
When can we actually build an action game where we are control in all of the combat moments instead of this "cinematic" sequences for like the umpteenth time?

Guys, this was one of the most technically impressive game showcases in existence. The sense of scale, lighting, cohesion, etc is stuff we would have shit our pants over 20 years ago.
Yes, it's very mainstream, but it looks like a wild ride immediately. Lots of R2, but this is the start of the game. It's going to have cutscenes. Them having R2 in them doesn't detract. It's still just a cutscene.
I got air combos so I'm happy there. Combat looks fun and it will no doubt only develop from here.
I went in expecting to roll my eyes and skip most of it, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enthralled the entire time.
It's so easy to be cynical, I'm just as guilty. But sometimes you have to reexamine where that's coming from.

Yeah I didn't see any sense of scale. When the green broad flew away on the giant goat that didn't have a flying animation? It instantly hit me as cheap parlor tricks with the GOW 2018 engine. Certainly nothing like the World Serpent. None of the classics forced me to lower my standards to allow myself to like it. This is just a cheap made-for-cable SyFy show based on a great movie.
With GOW 2018 they built the whole engine and concept for the game in a much smaller time frame. What is taking this new stuff so long?

There's a visual direction specific to Santa Monica that is impressive.
And GoW 3 is also great. Game blew me away when it released.

No game will ever have better boss battles. Its crazy how the newer age GOW games dont compare. I totally get it they wanted to modernize it making it more grounded with a father figure plot, but the scale and fights dont come close to GOW 1-3.
