According to many customers, sites hosted by major web host and domain registrar GoDaddy are down. According to the official GoDaddy Twitter account the company is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it. Update: customers are complaining that GoDaddy hosted e-mail accounts are down as well.

Update 2: Anonymous is claiming responsibility. A member of Anonymous known as is claiming responsibility, and makes it clear this is not an Anonymous collective action.

Looks like he was bragging straight up,too TechCrunch as well ..
Edit: Not sure if it was for "lulz"
(ugh..*eyeroll*)
or some other motive.

Edit2: For those with affected sites: Seems to be effecting only DNS, you can try to navigate to your website by ip address if you know it.

When I had my site on GoDaddy a couple years back, it was always slow, sometimes completely down and was constantly getting hacked and injected with malware. I don't think this is anything new.

Their DNS servers are affected. I have several sites hosted elsewhere which are up and reachable by IP, however unreachable by domain name due to using GoDaddy DNS.

This is what we experienced here at work as well for one of our users. IP did work as well for us.

I could see it being holdover rage from Godaddy's support of SOPA, but my understanding was the guy(s?) who was in charge of the whole Godaddy/SOPA thing isn't even at the company anymore.

I get most of my domains from Softlayer, but for quick things, what does everyone recommend?

Namecheap? I see they have free DNS.

Guess this explains why Teefury went down last night as I was trying to purchase their Dalek Barista T-shirt. That is if they use GoDaddy. Apparently so does Brad Jones, and he's pissed.

I just wish it meant I would never have to see another stupid Danika Patrick Superbowl commercial again.

Anonymous claims another victory against tyranny!

..by being a minor inconvenience to people on the internet for a few hours.

I love how they attack GoDaddy for their support of SOPA, which helps to just further convince the powers that be that SOPA is needed

nerddad: Knock knock. Who's there? Any website hosted on Godaddy. Any website hosted on Godaddy, who? <DNS lookup failed.>.

Did Neogaf used to be on GoDaddy?

This caused me a two-hour headache with a customer bitching at me (their ISP) because their email and POS software weren't working. The best part was I ended up calling the vendor for the POS POS software, and their support tech claimed there was "nothing wrong". An hour later I find out Godaddy is down, and that the POS software company was using Godaddy (and also having their customers use domains to access their service instead of IPs).

Needless to say it's been a fun afternoon.

I had to do 8 hours of work in 2 hours as soon as I got home.

That wasn't fun.
