During its latest Annual Meeting of Stockholders Electronic Arts quietly announced it is working on Godfather 2. Last year the publisher released games based on the classic film across several platforms (with the Wii version arriving this March) and found critical and commercial success. The announcement was made in response to a question from a stockholder about EA's attitude towards more mature games.

"The appeal of those types of games is growing as the demographics start to open up for that older demographic," said Frank Gibeau, head of EA Games. "We make products like Godfather 2, Army of Two, Crysis -- a lot of products that appeal to that older customer."

No further details about the sequel have been released at this time. When contacted by IGN, an EA spokesperson conceded Godfather 2 existed but wasn't ready to talk about it, yet.

I still don't understand what it is about the original that people enjoyed.

Terrible city/level design, extremely repetitive mission design (you literally do the same task over and over again), choppy handling of the source material, and loads of other issues. The simple act of exploring the city was no fun at all.

The buildings and environements are even repetitive. There were only a couple building interior models that they made, they just used it over and over again for the 50+ businesses you could take over

The fighting system with the Wii version. I won't lie.

The Wii controls and light RPG elements were so outstanding, I didn't mind the games faults. Had I played any other version, I would probably agree.

The Wii controls and the RPG elements in the Wii / PS3 versions made it really fun IMO.

Tell me about it.

The "city" is literally a maze with building textures for walls. Seriously, it's nothing more than a flat maze designed to resemble a city.

What's wrong with Godfather Part III?

Everything except for the part where Sofia coppolas punkass gets shot in the chest

They better set this game in old corleone Italy like the movie and let you play as young Vigo

Put a spoiler tag or something on that post.

Godfather was a great Wii title and I'll look forward to playing the second.

If it does well I bet they'll even make a third.
You heard it here first! :)

So "waggling" was enough to excuse the poor content?

...and people wonder why I'm opposed to the Wii. ;P

The controls were surprisingly good, I admit, but controls alone would NEVER EVER keep me playing a game unless the underlying content was good. Only in the most extreme circumstances could I justify playing a low quality game for its controls. Steel Battalion (which I do not own) is one of those games, I suppose, though even that became dull fairly quickly as a result of its content.

Ah well, I know a friend of mine who will be thrilled by this news.

What version of the game should I pick up?

I can get the PS2 version for dirt cheap.
At the same time, the Wii version has fun controls.
But the PS3 version has some specialness to it, as well.

Eh? Most pretty much agree that the Wii version was the best, but you'll want to do your own research.

I don't think anyone was arguing that Godfather was a AAA title to begin with. Going in I expected it to be a mediocre implementation with great control, and that's exactly what I got. Now if EA could expound on the idea, with more thought out city structure and less repeating scenarios while expanding the gameplay and retaining the fantastic controls, that would definitely be a game worth buying.

I only saw it recently and I figure the Godfather games may get people to read the novels or watch the movies if they haven't.

The statute of limitations on this are up.

This is like people bitching when the King Kong remake came out. The story was 70 years old at that point, and people were complaining.

Micheal has Fredo killed.

PS3 and Wii versions are mostly the same. Wii version is more fun to play, PS3 version has slightly better graphics.

Get the Wii version.

Because it's a spoiler that Vito Corleone used to be young?

Oh, you meant the part about Godfather III. Just assume that Godfather III never happened, and everything'll be fine.

Edit:

You are truly a blessed individual.

Honestly, I wouldn't have touched Godfather with a 10 foot pole on any other system but Wii. I almost skipped out on the Wii version until I kept hearing rave reviews about how it controlled.

I tried the PS3 version and was bored to tears in minutes. Not a knock on the PS3, mind you, but Godfather was just a mediocre games made great by Wii control.

When Godfather Game was first announed they said theyd make one for each movie so i guess they just finally decied to make it official.
