GOG adds Baldur’s Gate II Complete

FRAPS works fine for me... I have it running basically 100% of the time anyway, highly recommend it.

Nice dream, but you're right, absolutely impossible. It'd need a whole new engine, what you want wouldn't be possible with the infinity engine. Probably even more work than a FFVII remake to PS3 level graphics, even considering all the work involved going from 2D to 3D.

If it were BioWare again, they'd try flashing it up, no doubt. And add a couple gay options at least, I'd bet. (Not that I'm against it per se, it's just a gimmick they can't resist these days.)

The biggest thing however would be which ruleset they would use. Not sure how I'd feel if it were 4ed. If they were to think of updating it from 2.0 at all, 3.5 would be the safest bet.

As for differences between BG1 and BG2, I agree that 2's encounters were handled much better.

I ask again since I got ignored :P. Do I need to install official patches, or does that already comes with the instalation?

The ReadMe_addon_patch.txt file in the folder from the GOG install says it is Version 26498, which is the proper version for modding. There is a decent looking list here of the order to install stuff in. You want to install the stuff in post 3 if you do nothing else.

I have a general DnD question...once you get to 18 or whatever and go above, what does it mean when you see like 18/54?

First of all, present-day Bioware should keep their hands of the BG series. No remakes, no nothing, they'll find a way to fuck this shit up.

Gay romance is my most wanted "fantasy" feature in BG2. I think there are some mods out there, for Anomen if I'm not mistaken.

Also, why would anyone need every single line of dialogue voice-acted? It wouldn't be bad, I guess, but I rather see the money spent on other things - the amount of VA in BG2 is just right.

If a fighter has 18 strength, you roll a D100. 18/01 is the worst possible and 18/00 is the best possible.
Unmodified 18: +1 to hit, +2 to damage
18/01-18/50: +1 to hit, +3 to damage
18/51-18/75: +2 to hit, +3 to damage
18/76-18/90: +2 to hit, +4 to damage
18/91-18/99: +2 to hit, +5 to damage
18/00: +3 to hit, +6 to damage

It also improves your carrying capacity and such. Don't take it too seriously though - There are plenty of party members with a lot of strength, and you'll find plenty of magical items to raise your strength above 18 anyway.

Yeah, I don't think there's a reason to have every line of dialouge voiced, there's plenty as it is. Well except for Minsc. They should have paid that Winnie the Pooh motherfucker more and had him voice every last one of Minsc's lines.

The VA and casting was just right, too. Grey DeLisle had her first delectably dark role here as Viconia.

Besides, when it comes to voice in gaming, even when it's top notch, voicing every single line is superfluous.

Compared to Icewind Dale and Temple of Elemental Evil, BG2 has almost no combat.
The three games are similar in that almost every single encounter or obstacle is solved through combat.

i always found it odd that Quayle was so nice in BG2. Its like his personality changed between games.

To this day I have never seen a party that has the same party members that I have:
MC (warrior or something), Minsc, Jaheira, Aerie, Jan (how can you not instantly add that fucker to your party?) and Keldorn.

Is that a particularly bad party? Mind you, I played on the easiest difficulty setting (don't laugh at me, OG Baldur's Gate scarred me). :lol

Yeah, he was an annoying little prick. Then he somehow becomes "Uncle Quayle," I'm sure he had other motives. Favorite returning BG1 character is
Tiax, because he fucking rules all. And Ajantis too I guess, because he's dead.

There no such thing as a bad party. I played that party plenty of time!

I take most of those guys too. I also like Viconia so I usually have to make a tough decision!

Thank god for modding and the DON'T LEAVE MY PARTY EVEN IF YOU HATE EACH OTHER fix!

Good ol' T formation with Minsc, Keldorn (Carsomyr!), Anomen at the front, Imoen just behind for the backstabing or ranged attack and Aerie and your mage hero wreaking havoc with Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting and chain contingency.

Damn you bioware, why wont you release a BG3 instead of this DA2 crap!

"While leader, I will endeavour not to get all of us killed."

Xan was one of the best characters of BG1 in my opinion. I regret he only appeared in the "combat tutorial" of BG2.
If you also like him and install the Xan mod, do not install the audio for it! It's a pain to listen too. They should just have taken the original sounds.

Last time I finished BG2 was with a solo Inquisitor. It was a blast. Soloing the game forces you to use different tactics to most fights. Also, items suddenly show more potential. I found out that The Ring of Human Influence for example could also cast "Charm Person". Saved me a few times at the beginning.

Xan really is awesome, I prefer Xzar though.

I don't really understand people who solo the game - I've played the game countless time, but played it solo only once, and didn't even get past chapter 2 - This is like taking away the game's best feature!

I played it solo once as an experiment or challenge basically. My conclusion: 2nd edition monks are absurdly powerful. :lol

I've rolled with that party. Jan has a turnip limit though, once crossed it's petrify time.

Actually, they're non-existent. BG2 came out after 3E was out, so they tried to adapt some of it's new classes to AD&D - The Monk, Barbarian and Sorcerer. That's why these classes seem to be a little less balanced than the others.

Yup. The monk is seriously frightening though. I remember landing a quivering palm on Fiirkraag. :lol

Thieves are so absurd in the game, though. Bounty Hunters in particular. Destroys every boss, best crowd control, uses any item, can stealth... so awesome. Maze traps decimate everything and spike traps >>> dragons.

She is definitely the most annoying character in the game. Viconia and Minsc are must haves in your party for anyone playing the game for the first time.

BG2 and it's expansion fire on all cylinders, and for me, DA:O doesn't even come close.

Immerse yourselves in this game, and I guarantee you won't regret it. The character arcs are memorable and I felt a real connection with them as the story progressed.

Combat will definitely test your mettle, and if you're like me, you'll be reloading from time-to-time.

Overall the game is challenging and when you're done, you'll feel like you've just finished a wonderful book.

Age aside, this game is one of the best in its genre. To me, nothing can compete with it today.

All right guys, a friend and I just installed the game, same mods (g3 fixpack and widescreen). What do we have to do to play multiplayer together? We're going to be super bummed if this isn't possible...

Hamachi.

Pretty sure the host joins a game on his Hamachi IP and then creates on there and the the play who is joining joins the host's IP.

So both players who join 52.54.62.009 if that was the host's IP but only one would create a game.

Awesome. Will this work well lag wise? Our school has decent Internet.

You'll be fine. I did this with Commandos 2.

Soo goood.

About to buy the GoG version.

It's about time I get past the city.

I bought this on sunday and I've been troubleshooting an error I get every time I try installing it. It says the setup files are corrupted. I've tried all the browsers, the GOG downloader, nothing works. Customer support is unresponsive. Anyone wanna help me enjoy this fine game? :D

Missed BG2's matchup last week on Gamefaqs' current tournament. Turns out it just lost to Skies of Arcadia by 5%.
It lost to Skies of fucking Arcadia?

Wow. I mean it's a fun game, but compared to BG2... :lol No contest.

If the installer says the files are corrupted (it checks) then they must be, if I was home I could post a md5 checksum of the files, but are you watching your downloads? It's possible your connection is getting dropped before they complete. The sizes should match up to what GOG lists, ~2MB, ~300MB, and 2GB. You need all three files.

I can't really think of a reason for this...

You really should try the GOG forums since they're very helpful when it comes to technical problems.

In a complete coincidence, I found out some guy at work is also a big fan of the game - Which is the last straw, fuck it, I can't stand all this BG talk anymore, I'm starting a new BG1-to-TOB playthrough, for the millionth time :D

Ah maybe it's because I only tried dl'ing the 2MB browser. I'll download the two bigger files and then launch the 1st browser when I get home. If that doesn't work I'll try the GOG forums like another GAFfer mentioned. Thanks for the help :D

Never got past chapter 2 on this one :( Played it three times and always got overwhelmed by sheer amount of stuff you can do in chapter 2 :/

I played it as a Paladin 3 times but want to try something else this time, some dual or multi class overpowered combo :)
Any suggestions?

I believe Kensai/Mage is acknowledged as the most broken build.
