GOG: Bethesda Classics now DRM-Free

I'm playing Battlespire and I can't seem to swim. I know that you need to press the go up/down buttons, but they aren't doing anything. All my character does is just either bob on the surface, or rocket across it at ultra high speeds. If I can't swim, then I can't proceed...and that sucks because I'm kinda digging this game. Anyone have any idea what is going on.

I've even held so much weight that the game warns me that I can't stay afloat...but I still do.

Are you pressing the Page Up and Page Down buttons?

That I am. I've also changed them around to different button with the same results. Also, I have no idea why I'm rocketing across the water like I am at ultra high speeds (like, 10x my normal walk speed).

So the ones that gog have recently put (Fallout games) are updated ones with widescreen supp etc.?
Does that mean that the Classic games need to be modded?

Upon further inspection, the patch does appear to be baked into the classic versions now:

I already got Quake 1 and the mission packs via Steam, but if this GOG version really does have the soundtrack baked in and it gives me an easier time setting it up to run on my desktop without crashing on start up, I'll definitely buy it again.

Also I had all but forgotten Redguard and Battlespire until this announcement, and now my curiosity to check those games out has arisen again.

I have played the free-give-away Daggerfall a couple times in the past.

Anything special about getting it on GOG?

Is increase in ease for installing it anything significant?I don't usually use DOSBox so each time I want to play this game I have to go and review the process.

Also I'm excited about Redguard and Battlespire being released.

I don't have a clue then. If you upload your savegame somewhere I can mess around with it for a bit.

It's just click and play, and you get both Daggerfall and Arena for free if you buy Battlespire or Redguard. Way more convenient than setting it up manually via DOSbox. Also they set up the sound correctly, usually people ignore than and end up with screechy Soundblaster 16 audio, while the GOG version has nicer sounding stuff.

I'm in. I haven't gotten around to getting the PC Morrowind yet either so this is a perfect excuse.

I'm just amazed Redguard and Battlespire are officially available again.

Hmm... I wonder, does the OS X "classic" version of Fallout have the high-res patch pre-applied as well? Or is that even available for OS X?

Yes, but that doesn't really matter as I still recommend installing Fallout Fixt for Fallout 1 and Killap's Unofficial patch or Restoration Project for Fallout 2 no matter which version of the games you have (classic or Bethesda's redone version). Bethesda only included the hi-res patch and a bare minimum of unofficial patches so it would still be a good idea to install Fixt/Unofficial Patch/Restoration Project. They are the most up-to-date unoffical patches and pretty much fix most (if not all) bugs/glitches/crashes that are feasible. They also already include the hi-res patch (which makes Bethesda adding it kind of a moot point...).

Do most people use GOG galaxy?

I do, it's so nice to have patches handled by the client now instead of trying to download the patch individually.

Well, I somehow managed to skip past (jumped over at gate) the swimming section, so I did just beat level 3. Don't know if there will be any other swimming sections ahead though. Probably will.

I appreciate you posting about those unofficial patches. I'll install them (assuming they don't fall apart on OSX) and enjoy some sublime Fallout games.

GoG is on a roll lately. Would be nice to see some of the old Battletech games since there is a new one coming out soonish. I think the thing I want the most though are Sims1+2 complete collections. :P

I'll probably pick up Battlespire, had a physical copy of it for well over a decade now that I never ended up playing.

I just installed Morrowind with that huge graphics update... and it is looking pretty good. I also ran Pinnacle Profiler so I have full 360 controller support.

I just can't figure out how to make the fonts bigger, so I'm playing at 720p on my TV.

Hmm... might be worth it for the $6 on Battlespire and Redguard. I was thinking of getting Quake but that's $10 and I already own the CD-ROM so that's kinda "fuck that."

I just got an update for Fallout classic (the one that got removed). It now has the widescreen patch so I'm assuming it's the same as the one that got updated on steam, and the new one that you can buy. Pretty cool. I guess someone mentioned it above, but I can confirm FO1 has it too.

For the Fallout titles, is there a way to implement the mods on OSX? I have wanted to install the fix patch for FO1 and the restoration patch for FO2, but I am facing some troubles.

Yeah, all 3 Fallout Classic games got an update that synchs them feature wise with the new releases. Only difference now is that the Classic versions have extra goodies (something to do with rights negotiations apparently). Can confirm because I had 15 GB of updates to download yesterday between this and Pillars of Eternity bringing their main download up to the latest patch, for the release of White March.
