GOG.com D&D Sale: Buy one get one free

As someone who is terrible at video games that don't have giant arrows pointing you in the direction of the next cutscene, but still kinda enjoyed DA1 and coop NWN2, is there anything here for someone who wouldn't appreciate the game simply from a nostalgia standpoint?

Specifically, BG1+2, I think, are the things that I want to own. I think I want to own them even if I don't like them. Maybe that will be a thing that I do.

How close to the DnD ruleset are the BG games? Because I do enjoy for realsies DnD, if that's worth anything.

I am well aware that I am a bad person.

NWN1 + 1 free game + free ToEE + NWN2 on Steam = $30

NWN1 and 2 on disc = $30

First compilation you posted is nice, though.
The second one has NWN2 with all expansion packs. That is still a great deal since NWN1 is such garbage. Steam has NWN 2 Platinum for $20 but its missing Mysteries of Westgate which is signifigant imo. im actually kind of surprised that MoW came out in a compilation at all. i was certain it would be forever erased like the stuff Bioware did with Pirates of the Sword Coasts, Infinite Dungeons, and Wyvern Crown of Cormyr.

I'm probably gonna grab Torment just for the soundtrack and I'm wondering which Icewind Dale is better. Suggestions?

And NWN1 is easily the worst Bioware game ever made. DA2 isnt even close to as bad as NWN1.

Eh. Vanilla Campaign is definitely bland, but the sheer character customization options gives it more longevity than DA2, which pretty much was a dumb gibfest regardless of build. The expansions were a large improvement at least, particularly Underdark.

But in terms purely of engaging dialogue and scenario writing...yea DA2 still wins out despite how miserable that final act was.

Not a bad deal. Similar to the one they offered last year where for every game you bought (of the same ones) the cheaper each one would be.

Seeing that is kind of sad somehow, as I haven't played any of the games since buying them (though I have played Torment and the BG ones before).

Yeah, me too. I bought them all as part of a great deal last year. Played a bit of baldur's gate but then never played again. What a shame.

Go to a retail location and get this for $19.99 instead:

If you want NWN2 then save up $29.99 and get this:

If you are dedicated then go to ebay and get this:

Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, Pools of Darkness, Hillsfar, Eye of the Beholder I-III, Blood and Magic, Dungeon Hack, Gateway to the Savage Frontier, Treasures of the Savage Frontier, Menzoberranzan.

After that its running down the Ravenloft and Dark Sun games. Do that and you will basically have every D&D rpg worth having.

I've never seen these anthologies where I am, in Canada. Too bad.

And that NWN package on GamersGate was going for $10.73 this last weekend.

Why do you keep popping up in these Digital Distribution specific threads anyway?

I thought I was going to get out not buying anything.

NOPE.

Thanks whoever bumped this. I am now the new proud owner of Icewind Dale 1 + 2.

Even though I have it on disk and have repeatedly tried to get into to it but find the mechanics hard to understand, I still bought BG1 and 2. I don't know what's wrong with me

Too bad it's not a straight-up 50% off, because there are five games I want. Went ahead and got Planescape and BG2, but I'd still like the first BG and the two Icewind Dale games. Not that I'll ever have time to play any of them, but you definitely can't go wrong with the two I got.

The BG games are based heavily on the AD&D 2E ruleset. If you're used to being shepherded around, the games may drive you batty--especially BG 1, anyway. But they're both about as classic as CRPGs get and BG2 is something we will probably never see the likes of again.

Short answer is to give Baldur's Gate 2 a try, at least.

Edited to add there is absolutely nothing "short" about BG 2, though. Like I hope you have 80 hours to kill, at a minimum.

Walmart sells both of those compilations in Canada if you are interested.

All you assholes better buy Neverwinter Nights. Best game Bioware ever made. I'm not talking in terms of campaign story, but as a toolset, as a goddamn portal into a world of other people's creations there's nothing better. It's RPG Maker on dragonbone-laced crack. Bioware still use it as job applications.

Both expansion packs (included) offer fantastic single player experiences. The vanilla campaign is average but plenty of fun in multiplayer. The included short modules are of such high quality it's ridiculous.

And then there are the "fan modules" by Ossian Studios (actual Bioware staff members at some point I think?) which are almost amazing games in themselves. Though, there are other fan created modules that are also of very high quality.

But yeah, NWN is great.

Also, Icewind Dale 2 "Complete"? Was that a standalone game? I don't remember it having an expansion.

I spent more time with NWN than any other Bioware game. The toolset along with the multiplayer and great fan modules made it a hoot. The original campaign is mostly hack-n-slash. The two expansion campaigns really made for a better SP campaign. Much better than NWN2 in my book.

What is this Icewind Dale II complete? That game never got any expansion, did it? That game was easily the most challenging Infinity engine game. Especially if you played without the patch that upped the loot drops, and fixed the final boss turning completely invisible and sneak attacking you constantly. I wanted to punch my monitor more than once. Easily had a harder time with than even ToEE. So many fights came down to me trying desperately kite bosses with almost dead characters. Actually had to sit down and read up on spells and plan out a strategy for the final boss encounter.

This would be a good way to get BG1 and IWD2 with a bonus of ToEE. How long will it last?

Got me PST and NWN Diamond. Definitely gonna replay both games during the year.
