GOG News and Updates 2011

What major pubs are left to sign onto GOG after EA, LucasArts and Eidos?

Delixe from GOG forums made a great list HERE, in summary:

  • THQ: THQ are mainly a console game producer so they don't have a massive catalogue. However they do have Relic and that means Homeworld, Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. They also have Volition which means Red Faction. )
  • Sega: While mostly console based they ported a lot of Saturn and Dreamcast games to Windows. Lately Sega have taken the PC market seriously and now own The Creative Assembly which means the Total War games.
  • Warner Brothers: They now own all Midway's classic titles. Not only their arcade games but also forgotten gems like Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy.
  • Capcom: Some of the biggest titles in recent years such as Chaos Legion, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry and Resident Evil.
  • Zenimax: Zenimax are the parent company of both Bethesda and ID.
  • Microsoft: Microsoft Flight Simulator, Dungeon Siege, Age of Empires, Halo.
  • Take Two: They now own Firaxis along with Rockstar. This means Civilization and Grand Theft Auto along with many, many others like Bioshock.
  • Valve: Half-Life and all the games that use the Source engine.

I think the hints so far point to at least two different companies, so I seriously hope it is indeed LucasArts and EA or at least Eidos.

Alone in the Dark seems like the obvious answer, but that series is already on GOG.

The first Monkey Island made you feel like a hero... I mean, Guybrush did
defeat LeChuck
.
I don't think we need to spoiler that. Hell every game since the first has marketed the fact that Guybrush 'killed' LeChuck.

Granted, none of the original Alone in the Dark titles are on GOG, but they already have the support of the publisher. If anything, this points to something not-so-obvious, or the announcement of a multitude of releases.

Only the crappiest one, I'd love to get the rest. Still, that seems too obvious. Undying would be a better fit than the earlier quote.

The font doesn't fit, but System Shock fits that description.

No it doesn't. Not even a little bit. Light and dark have absolutely nothing to do with System Shock in any capacity whatsoever. At all. Seriously.

It looks to me like GOG is simply mixing all upcoming games in these announcements, be they from a new publisher or an old one.
One of the past hints was very probably about Quest for Glory, this new one seems to be about Alone in the Dark (the original trilogy). The rights of both should be with Activision.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I suspect that it's just a metric fuckload of games from different publishers... like they haven't necessarily received a blanket "OK" from any one, but perhaps just for entire series' of games.

Bought Realms of the Haunting earlier today, and it runs like a charm <3 But do any of you guys know if it's somehow possible to remap the controls so as to use WASD instead of the arrow keys?

They of course could be straight fucking with us. Remember their last big marketing stunt?

The one where they announced all the infinity engine RPGs afterwards? Though it was madness, yet there was method in it.

Yea if you hit ctrl + F1 you bring up the DOSBox control mapper and you can change the inputs to whatever you want. I did it and it worked like a charm.

the image does have the flashlight almost but i think the older games would be more likely to be the big deal to promote on GOG.

Um. I was just making a joke about it being dark.

Anyone is going to make the thread for the Witcher2/GOG.com conference ?

One thing that's smart, here, is that all this speculation is going to cause an awful lot of people who may not be interested in The Witcher 2 to still sit down and watch half-an-hour or so of presentation promoting it which might just sway them.

Canny move.

Awesome, thanks :D I'll give it a try later when I'm home from work again.

Yeah, I'm starting to think so, too. Maybe, they've got a few from LucasArts and a few from EA or Eidos or something. Makes sense that LA would give them something like Outlaws or The Dig but keep DOTT for example, which could get the Special Edition treatment, for themselves.

It's hard to get very excited about games already on other services, though. The thing I love about GoG is that it goes for the games other services don't even consider.

I think we're expecting An Announcement, and there to be one game released today (maybe more, hard to say, although some official posts suggests just one release) directly relating to that announcement, with more to come in following weeks.

So are we expecting a game or games?

I expect it to be kinda like the Hasbro games; the announcement is for the publisher, but only one game is released at a time. Which I'm totally fine with!

Quest for Glory?

what's up with the "like" ? looks like its an "f" or a "t".

"... lite a hero?"
"... life a hero?"

really bad typo?

edit: also I want QfG series, but I think Bard's Tale is correct here.

edit edit: bah its different than both the other "f" and "t".

Detailed instructions how to remap your keys and a lot of other tips for ROTH:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/realms_of_the_haunting/tips_for_beginners

Detailed starting times of the GOG conference:

As for the time when the live stream of GOG's presentation will start, it's 5:00 p.m. GMT which means 10:00 a.m. Los Angeles time, 1:00 p.m. New York, 6:00 p.m. London time or 7:00 p.m. Warsaw time.

Now if you want to watch the CD Projekt RED's presentation, just tune in an hour earlier :)

Hope that helps!

Thanks :D It's great to finally be able to play RotH again. Such an awesome, underrated game. Just too bad it's so damn hard :lol
The American version has a difficulty selection. Unfortunately GOG sell the European version. But you can find instructions for a patch on the GOG forums.

The game also becomes much easier if you exploit the weak AI and the fact that enemies have massive problems crossing doorsteps. You can also run past a lot of the battles.

Have a question about GoG and of course theres no better thread in the forums than this one to ask away :D

Considering to buy the Witcher 2 as a download instead of retail disk. Does GoG allows me to play games withouth the need to be connected to the net, to put it shortly can i play offline?

Hope someone can share some light into this.

Correct. No DRM at all. The way it's meant to be~

O_0!

So i just download the thing, install, unplug from the rest of the world and play away?

Well they have my money this may then! Another question, will CD Projekt Red get more benefit if ai buy from GoG? Because they seem relted i think.

New features:
- New downloader (multithreaded, error checking, resource-light)
- Personal Messages (optional)
- Improved checkout, browser compatibility, coupon system

"Alone in the Dark begins the new wave of Atari games"

great, thanks GoG for making this reveal as underwhelming as possible.

Publishers soon on GOG (1 in Summer and 2 in Fall):
3 out of these 5, if I got it right (or it's just one of these, plus other 2 not listed here).
- LucasArts
- Microsoft
- EA
- Square Enix
- T2

They will publish 25 games from that publisher. I think that EA is the one with the biggest pool of games here.

Better, you can download, burn the installer to a disc or copy the installer to a flash drive, and install it on every computer you own.

That´s beautiful so no need to redownload if i want to reinstall. :O

Now the wait will become unbearable. If these guys put some more fat into that catalogue they could become filthy rich.
