The Dark Fall games look interesting, anyone have any impressions of them? I'm always interested in adventure-horror.

I loved the first one, very atmospheric game with cool puzzles, the second was so hard that I couldn't even enjoyed it :(

Is Gothic II worth it for $4?

100% if you have a good tolerance for awkward controls (honestly it's really just wasd + mouse) and older graphics. Probably worth it at $40 if you ended up enjoying it, it's a long, challenging RPG that does what it sets out to perfectly.

If only it was just WASD + mouse. Turning is awkward at best and the game is just uncomfortable. Not to mention the crazy keyboard-controlled menu.

I want to love it, I really do! I always hear how it's one of the best exploration RPGs around, but then I remember that Risen is already installed and it has a sane UI and decent, modern controls!

If you bump your mouse sensitivity way, way up (mine has toggle-able settings on the mouse - I just play Gothic on the highest one) it isn't that bad imo. You need to customize the controls a little, and end up using a combination of wasd + mouse to move around, but it gets the job done.

Does anyone knows if Guilty Gear supports xbox360 wireless pad?

In other matters was wondering if there's some way to get alerts when a game you are interested in recieves a discount or special offer. Can't forgive myself for passing the ubisoft offer.

Also what's the best game of the ones offered with Witcher 2 preorder. To be honest not much into RPG's less old ones, but which one features more accessible controls and less deteriorated visuals? I like well done 2d visuals so it isn't an issue.

Dragonshard is actually pretty awesome, I bought it flatout after playing the demo. It's a nice mix of rpg dungeon crawling and rts city building/managment. The graphics and sounds hold up really well too.

Use an RSS reader on your phone or mail client, and add GOG's RSS, they only publish to it once or twice a week usually, so it's very unoffensive, and they'll publish all the sales to it. On the other hand, I think they do e-mail you after you've bought something from them all the sales they post, or most of them, but I tend to pay a lot less attention to my e-mails than the RSS reader.

Divine Divinity's the most logical choice I believe. They're all RPGs, and Divine Divinity is simple enough with awesome music. It's point and click like Diablo 2, only pretty hard, you can quickly find yourself up against impossible battles if you go the wrong way, and with a bunch of quests/story. Gothic's controls are notoriously poor, and Realms of Arkania is the most dated and apparently super-hardcore (like you can catch a cold and die or if you don't have new shoes you can die). Too bad they didn't add TW1 as a choice.

How does Painkiller hold up these days? I have an interest in People Can Fly after Bulletstorm and it's on sale for $4 so I'll probably pick it up tomorrow.

Painkiller runs and holds up perfectly, if you can still enjoy DooM, you can enjoy Painkiller. Refreshment.01 just bought it I believe, maybe he has some thoughts too.

Missed this before, but yes, it runs on a wireless 360 pad perfectly. You have to manually enable the analog d-pad in the game's option though, by default it is turned off and you only use the thumbstick.

oh yeah, painkiller still works perfectly. hehe, it isn't really that old is it? hm ok, well 2004. if you're also interested in the people can fly guys who left right before/after epic bought them check out the necrovision games as well. IT IS actually pretty interesting the ways necrovision and necrovision lost company are related to bulletstorm and the ways they are not (the necrovision games aren't on gog though, but). I vastly prefer the necrovision games over bulletstorm, OF COURSE! :))

Of the post-Doom Doom-style FPS games, Painkiller and Serious Sam are both pretty great.

I prefer Serious Sam though. The emphasis on soul collecting in Painkiller needlessly slows things down.

so, i'm not great at keeping up with fighting game name conventions, so what's the difference between Guilty Gear Isuka and Guilty Gear X2 Reload?

Well, I just had a fun time getting the videos to work in Gothic 2. Now the only hurdle for me is grasping the controls.

Make sure to run the community patch too. Set your mouse sensitivity really high like mentioned, it helps a bit. I had a fair warning myself, you need like 5 hours or so to adapt, and it certainly doesn't help that while you're fighting the controls, you probably don't have a great grasp on combat either early on, so you're dying all the time. It's uncomfortable at first, but I did adjust in time.

Quite well in both graphics and gameplay. It's definitely worth 4 bucks.

Is Arcanum worth getting?

How good of a game is it?
Paging EatChildren.

I think it's a great attempt at making a real RPG, not just a game with levelling and lots of characters. It has flaws and some poorly executed ideas but I'll still recommend anyone to try it if they think it sounds interesting.

What is everyone's thoughts on The Last Express?

It looks and sounds very interesting; I was just wondering if the concept is actually executed well enough so that the game is still enjoyable.

Oh it is, best of its kind.

Its really sad that there aren't more JRPG's avaliable on the PC.

I need both WRPG's and JRPG's.

:(

If you're in to emulation, you've got access everything except for PS3/360, of which there's a couple ported anyway, but not nearly enough, I agree.

I'd kill for a Megaten game for the PC. Imagine if Nocturne was avaliable on PC?

Hell imagine if Atlus and NIS supported the PC.

The market seems perfect.

I bought it, but I didn't really like it. I didn't care for the story. It felt very subtle, confusing and unappealing. The game also felt kind of boring at times when it feels like you have nothing to do and just go around and try to open locked doors over and over. It's easy to get lost too, with two identical long corridors with doors to all the compartments where you spend most of your time.

The parts I found most interesting in the game was the real time movements of the characters, the ongoing trip on the train and the clock you could turn back time with. Seeing all the passengers and their daily routine was kind of fun, but I didn't find the characters to be that interesting.

Agreed. I really think there's a market there.

I'm almost positive I'd buy a few Falcom games with a good localization.

Yes please. In particular, Xanadu Next and Dinosaur Resurrection.

It just makes too much sense. Hopefully Care Fulgur inspires some to do the same.

I'm thinking of making a "games you want on PC" thread, but am worried about it being a trollfest.

Thanks for the advice. So they are all pretty hard? Don't have time or patience for that type of games these days. Wanted to comment every time i see your avatar, give the itches to play Baldur's but i just know i won't have the time. But want to sink my teeth in that game an rip its neck off.

yeah, divine divinity and gothic 2 gold are easily the strongest games in the pre-order.
With Merrick backing Minsc can't say no to Divine Divinity. Again thanks so much guys for your help.

Its 4 dollars my friend. Quick, arcade type action thats perfect for short lapses of play because of the generous and well segmented check points. A good trip back to simple times where aim and reflexes were put to the test and shooting was the reward in itself.

Looks like we have the next candidate after finishing Painkiller.

Back in the day was a marvel. Now i don't think its easy to digest. Try the Syberias instead if you haven't done so already.

Addendun: Since when this thread moves so fast? :D

I think Xseed on one of their blogs, (or maybe a forum?) said they were looking into the possibility of releasing Falcom games on Steam.
Though I don't know how serious a possibility that is.

A little reminder: Last week's outage for upgrades was postponed to May 5th, so don't panic if the servers go down in a day or two.

Joseph Merrick said:

Never even heard of it until now, and it's a Forgotten Realms game too. Doesn't seem like it got much love from reviewers though.

May 5th is the supposed launch of the new GOG downloader/site revisions, maybe we'll get a second game to go with it, seems very likely as there's still 1 more ? box left before The Witcher on May 10th, followed by The Witcher 2 pre-load! :)

If I remember correctly Demon Stone is one of those console-ish diablo-lites, like baldur's gate dark alliance, untold legends etc. (i may be wrong)

I haven't actually played the game, but it's by the dudes who made the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers game back in the day. That was probably best described as a hack-and-slash with some RPG elements (leveling, equipment).

So how the preorder for Witcher 2 is being handled? Put my preorder up but they just asked me for the user account. No monetary transaction was executed.

When will they want the deposit? And is the only confirmation of the preorder the acces to the extra stuff?

I believe that the preload begins on May 10th, a week before it comes out, so I imagine they will charge then. They don't charge until it's ready to go.

Ahh ok Snuggler, so some sort of advice will pop up after the 7th/10th to remind us? Was gonna look if there was a topic about it on the forums.

Sh!t, at least GoG should have let us download the manual to get a head start :D

Wonder if i'll play something of Divine Divinity? Maybe the downloads for the free games shoul also be started a lot earlier, the wait for the game its hard my friends, really hard.

My bad, I meant the 10th. I don't know if they'll do any kind of notification but it should charge/go up for preload on GOG on that day.

just so happens that'll be the exact day I can buy it!

Really? That would be awesome.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Game Center GX Games translated and ported over.

Personally I was underwhelmed. Gorgeous graphics but the puzzles are too simplistic and the writing of the side characters, especially the android sidekick who follows you around for half the game, was obnoxious. And maybe it's because I played it so soon after The Longest Journey, but the protagonist's arc wasn't very compelling.
