GOG News and Updates 2011

Moto Racer 2 is back again, now fixed (guess there was an issue before with the DRM that prevented switching gears or something iirc). I'm thinking I'm not going to list it as a new release though, since it was already released and just removed because it wasn't working.
God I love GOG. How many other DD sites would even bother to fix this sort of thing on their own?

Will The Witcher 2 still be offered on GOG.com after this promo or will it dissipate from the store after a few days?
I don't see any reason why they would de-list the game. It's pure profit for them and it's the only way to get a few small bonus downloads in a digital edition (dat art book).

edit: Oh so late

Someone on the GOG forum linked to a pretty interesting interview with the president of Optimus SA (in Polish). He includes a summary in the post, and it contains some interesting information about GOG.com such as the fact they made 9.36million PLN (Polish zloty) of sales last year which they hope to double this year. They're also looking at introducing new price points it seems.

They handled this pretty well, could only have been better if they've had responded to the customers having problems a bit faster to begin with.

New weekend deals: 30% off Activision RPGs, or $4.19 each.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Betrayal at Krondor Pack
Return to Krondor
Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption

Any thoughts on Vampire the Masquerade - Redemption? After playing Bloodlines I might be up for a return to that world. I know it's not of the quality of bloodlines but is it worthwhile?

It's a great game, but it's nothing like Bloodlines, you control your characters "Diablo style", clicking in enemies and items, voice acting is good, graphics are ok, music is good too.

Totally recommended imo, setting and writing is fantastic.

Also, you get to spend a good amount of the game in the 'old world', giving you more of an insight into the setting.

Not the greatest RPG ever but pretty solid, fun, and with few/no real bugs.

can you move your character with keyboard or is it click to move also?

Such excellent timing. I had been planning on getting Arcanum this week (just putting it off because I knew I wouldn't play it right away... playing Borderlands at the moment) and it got so close to Friday and decided to wait to see if it was on sale.

I didn't actually think it would be on sale! Lucky me. It's not a big sale, but I'm not unhappy. I was completely willing to pay full price on it. It's already so cheap.

I got the two in bold. Arcanum looks really good and I've heard Redemption is a solid title in the Vampire series.

Hmm..thinking about pre-ordering The Witcher 2 on GoG but already own Gothic2/Divinity1&2 and Arkania 1-3. Does anyone know if they offer any other alternatives if you've already purchased those? I know they've done stuff like that in the past. Too bad TW1 isn't a choice, I already have it on Steam but would love a DRM free copy as well.

If you qualify for the free game when you pre-order, and you already own all those, they give you a game of your choice out of everything (sans TW2). I got TW1 as my free game.

No shit, thats awfully cool of them.

Definitely picking up Bloodlines at that price!

Not Bloodlines. Redemption. Two entirely different games based on the same IP. Bloodlines is the cult classic made by Troika in the Source Engine.

Nice, thanks. Sounds like I will be pre-ordering TW2 then.

Ugh. No. I made the mistake of buying it thinking it was Bloodlines (I didn't realize there were two Vampire RPGs). It's pretty awful and dated.

I bought Masquerade when it first came out ....like before the patch that let you actually pause combat to issue commands! Yeah that's right! =P

I have such fond memories of it, can't pass it up (^____^)

I should know this, but are TW2 preorder people able to download their free game now? I found a link to them but it doesn't load.

After you pay, you should get an email that directs you to a page where you can choose your game. After you choose one, it will be added to your games list where you can download it.

K, thanks. That's what I thought but I haven't got the email yet, guess I just gotta be patient.

I'm going with Divine Divinity, it looks pretty good.

It should be in the order summary email that you get for your purchase of The Witcher 2.

^ that was it, nice

Hopefully this isn't a repeat question, but is there anything I should know about Divine Divinity before I start playing?

I don't really care about a 1080p/widescreen hack if I can run it windowed.

Hmmm it's not launching. It says "Unable to write to the installation directory".

Oh, got it. I had to run the .exe as admin. I'm starting to get good at computers!

I got Gothic 2 but I wished I had gotten Divine Divinity. I was playing Gothic 2 and the controls are pretty crazy and the camera is such that it gives me a bit of vertigo.

With a good bit of ini tweaking, the game becomes quite playable. Most importantly, adjusting the value of the "zMouseRotationScale" part of the ini file makes the camera bearable.

I just found this on Google and it offers some other information that might help:

The game is old, but it's still quite good if you can get used to it (after the ini tweaks, that is).

$5.99 or $6.99 iirc. If you're eager to play it soon, you're doing yourself a disservice by waiting to save a couple bucks.

I would but my backlog is significant.

Mafia II
Metro 2033
Kings Bounty
Dark Void Zero
Gothic II
Arcanum

And I have The Witcher 2 which I'm going to play first.

I don't need anymore games. I just bit into this sale because I thought Bloodlines was on sale for $5, which is very rare.

Why doesn't Atlus release their Megaten and Persona games to GOG or Steam?

The world would be a better place if every developer released a PC version of their games.

IN RELATED NEWS, I really think that JRPG devs are missing out by ignoring the Western PC market.

GOG Denies Policy Changes Were Made To Increase Australian Witcher 2 Sales

Via Gamasutra- While I personally think that they did this to bypass censorship, few quotes really stood out...

"There's still a difference between buying a box overseas -- or getting something by mail order -- and downloading it," he said. "The former is importation, which is covered by laws dating back to time immemorial. This includes censorship laws. Downloading, on the other hand, is not covered. You can still face penalties for owning illegal content (such as child pornography), but not for downloading unrated content."

"By releasing The Witcher 2 DRM-free on GOG.com, by offering our Fair Price Package, and by respecting and trusting our users, we're making a solid test case for treating PC Gamers the way they would like to be treated," said Longino. "This has performed very well for us so far, and it looks like it's going to continue to make waves in the community as we keep growing."

Didn't Square try this via Eidos with some of the PSX FF games?

Because they're shitty ports. Seriously, you get better compatibility and graphic options by playing the emulated version of FF7/8.
