GOG upgrading Witcher 3 to GOTY for free

I see that CDPR started to use "cheap" PR tricks since W3 marketing started. For me free DLCs were also pure cheap marketing to be clear.

You are calling this a PR trick based on the title the OP wrote? What are you even talking about?

eh there was a lot of confusion in the reddit thread about this yesterday too. throwing the word "free" around when you're not really giving anything away could be seen as cheap. especially when you have a good reputation and people will jump to praise you before even reading the details

the wording on their store page yesterday even had some people believing buying the DLC without the base game would get them a free copy of the GOTY too.

I guess it's good that people who back this stuff up will be able to back up all of Witcher 3 without having to keep track of the main game installs plus the expansion installs (as if that were a huge problem or something), but whatevs.

What this did make me do/remind me to do was finally buy the two expansions on PC (I already played them on Xbox). I'll probably do a fresh run of the game after I get a 1080.

I have both the GOTY version and the original version in my library, but when I'm looking at the current deals on the sale, GOG has doesn't list the original version as something I own anymore.

Okay I heard Saves DO carry over on PC.

Can anyone clear that up for me, and if they do carry over is it as easy as just installing the game in the same location and saves will be there? What's the process?

I don't see any reason why they would change saves location between vanilla game and the same game with DLC(s) so the process is to install the GOTY, and the old saves will most likely just appear in it.

You mean saves from Witcher 2? I was under the impression that saves from Witcher 3 the base game with DLC were not compatible with the game of the year version (edit: oh, that's apparently just for consoles).

What? That's ridiculously generous if it's a general thing.

Title is very misleading, it's not just vanilla Witcher 3. You need both expansions as well. The GOTY is literally base game + the 2 expansions, no extra content. So in a way it's only a name change.

Is there anything even added on top of the standard edition and DLC?

No. The only difference is the base game + two expansions come with multiple installers (I think three?) whereas the GOTY comes with just one. So it's just a little easier installing (not that it was hard in the first place, but still).

There's like no chance of them doing the same for console versions right? (digital obviously)

wouldn't mind playing it again for free achievements and to get all gwent cards
