Going to a bar for the first time

DAYUM NUCKA!

You live in NYC and you consider 20 bucks expensive?

Bro, you tip once and never tip again. Cheaper than tipping constantly.

Trust me :)

This guy invented a way to get drinks without paying taxes. The state HATES him.

SEE HOW IT'S DONE CLICK HERE

:lol

This. Space your drinks out. 2 drinks, then a glass of water. Be funny and say it's a glass of vodka -
This joke may or may not get you laid.

OR just nurse a drink for extra long when you feel like the buzz is kicking in.

It boggles my mind that when someone asks for advice to go to a bar, only for a dude to come in to tell us all about how much he hates it and how they're terrible because REASONS. No one cares, dude. Why come into a thread about bars if you don't like em?

Hey my 21st is tomorrow, *high five*

I'm going down to Atlantic City to gamble and fuck shit up. I'm very much so looking forward to it lol

Just be cool and don't act like a creep. Thats all there is too it really. It can seem daunting at first but its really not a big deal.

Haha if I was still in STL, I'd def be out on the casino boats. But I'm away for college and the only places to gamble here are sketchy reservations haha. But happy birthday!

Well the H20 is more for preventing dehydration and the hangover the next day, but the most important part to take away from my plan is the glass of vodka joke.

Seriously, it's a panty dropper.

It hasn't worked once. OP will be disappointed.

If you gonna stay for an extended period of time I find giving the bartender a credit card for an open tab much easier than trying to pay each time

Harrah's to sleep, but I'm thinking of going to Revel. I've been there once and I like the atmosphere of the casino.

Hopefully I don't lose too much money, but I've already given myself a limit. And happy birthday to you too man!

I still love the Borgata the most. It's just a pain to get to if you're not staying there.

Crazy thing is that back in high school we actually just had glasses full of the vodka because we took what we could get to get drunk and that was the cheapest alcohol available haha

Didn't really work back then either.

I'm posting this from a bar right now, so I'm a bit of an expert.

- have fun and enjoy yourself. No one really gives a shit as long as you be respectful and don't do anything stupid.

Fireballs aren't my thing, shots not much either but chocolate cake/duck fart are pretty damn good and worth trying. Usually I'm just getting wells since cocktails aren't cheap, unless the bar has a beer on tap I really want to try.

Tip double or more on your first order, especially if it's anything complicated. The bartender will be your friend and will probably serve you quicker for future orders. Keep tipping at least a dollar for a beer or easy drink, two for mixed drinks.

Yep. I like to start with a $5 tip on the first drink. Then you'll typically get great service for the rest of the night.

I'm trying to lower his expectations because he's never been to them and will be sitting there waiting for the fun to happen.

As far as drinks go, I'm a whiskey guy through and through. Microbrews is where I usually find myself getting destroyed happily. Try a White Russian if you're looking for a decent mixed drink.

Quite the assumption there. Dude was just asking for advice, no need to derail that into "bars are boring".

If you have to ask about what you need to do at a bar, you're probably not ready for going to a bar.
Also its 10x better to go with friends. If you're going alone, I hope you're an extrovert or at least one who can easily start conversations. Otherwise you'll probably be bored and miserable. That is until you get drunk enough to be extroverted.

Protip: Bacardi & Cola with lime is the gentleman's choice.

I tip $1 per drink. $2 if the drink is cray.

I don't even make big money like that, but I feel like I save when I tip early, that way I can get my drank on and not worry about tipping again. Its also is a great conversation starter with a cute lady bartender. I usually get around 9-10 drinks, beer mixed with mixed drinks, maybe a shot here and there, and doing this makes my bar tab smaller.

Fireball is popular everywhere. Not my thing, but it's probably the most advertised shot around.

This shot + Angry Orchard = yum

151 + Coke or bust.

I've had tons of fun at the bar. More than anything, you just have to be with the right people. TBH I don't think I'd have much fun hanging with a dude that's all like "this is lame, I want to go home 😤".

Hmm. This all makes sense then. I usually stop around 3 drinks give or take. But if you're drinking about 10 drinks a night then I see how $20 makes sense. Pays for itself since you're getting free drinks and the like.

And 10 drinks? You're gonna be a mess at the meetup. Don't try and make out with me or anything.

Make out with Jipan.

Its all about those Long Island Iced Tea's. Personally my favorite drink.

Tastes incredible and gets you shit faced very quickly. My dad was at a party once and was sitting down chilling, and he drank about four Long Island's. He felt fine and then all of a sudden he stood up and BAM he went down like nothing I've ever seen lol

Are you trying to get him killed?

You said Bacardi. I suggested Bacardi :p

I prefer it over that Kraken rum. Something about it makes me sick.

I'm a former frat boy. I've held my liquor fairly well.

IMO, city bars skimp on the alcohol, which is why I end up getting 9-10 drinks.
It takes a bit of alcohol to get a good buzz in me.

1. Walk up to bar.
2. Do you want to sit at the bar? (Y/N)
...If Y, then have a seat, wait for bartender to take your order.
...If N, lean on/near bar until bartender comes to take your order.
3. Order desired beverage. Bartender will tell you the cost for the drink.
4. Receive drink.
5. Pay the man/woman.
6. Be kind, tip your bartender! ($1 for a beer / shot, $2 for a cocktail is customary)
7. Enjoy your drink. Socialize.
8. Goto 1.
9. Repeat until broke / drunk / bored / escorted from premesis / have a chance to hook up with a hot young guy / girl / whatever (we don't judge here).

Yep. It really is that straightforward.

Yea I hate that shite. I just stop ordering from places like that and make them pour me waters and seltzer cranberries for the rest of the night.

Get a pack of cigs so you have something to split up your time at the bar. Drink beforehand or bring a half pint of something. Don't bring a bunch of shit you can lose. Ask about the specials before you order.

oh yes, subscribing to this thread

OP you going alone or with friends? Either way great things can happen when you go to the bars for your 21st.

Gotta play your cards right tho

So, for those of us across the pond, is american bar culture like British pub culture? All I have to go on is [Cheers Pic]

Hard to say, my impression of British Pub culture is pretty much defined by what I saw in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". And possibly how The Winchester bar looks in Shaun of the Dead.

Serious answer: It varies. Greatly. College town bars are frequently overcrowded with students who are rarely of drinking age pounding glass after glass of watered down "beer" or an endless line of shots. Then you have more of the Tavern-esque joints that actually have excellent drink selections and good food, and are just generally relaxing places to hang out. Darts, pool tables, that sort of thing.

Basically, there's seemingly an endless number of bars, taverns, roadhouses and other establishments that cater to one demographic or another. Really just depends on where you are, and what type of environment you're looking for.

Personally, I'll take an old school place with a good beer selection on tap, good food and fun stuff to do any day of the week.

Don't be afraid to tell people it's your 21st bday. You will get lots of free drinks and it will make meeting people really easy.

Bozeman, yeah. I'd love some recommendations.

Haha, imagine that. When you said a lot of bars in the downtown area I had a fleeting thought that you might be here. Turns out to be true.

OK, here goes:

Molly Brown: My personal favorite. It's kind of a misfits bar but not really. Good vibe, lots of pool tables and probably the best beer selection of all the downtown bars and is definitely the best spot in the Barmuda triangle.

Haufbrau: At night it's a crowded hippy bar with loud performances, not bad when it's more chill, and it's cool for a visit since you're doing a pub crawl. They have excellent burgers during the day. Check em out sometime, during lunch hours.

Scoop: Possibly the sketchiest bar in town by word of mouth. But is mostly fine just not with the best selection of brew. Also looks the worst from the inside.

Bacchus Pub: Awesome hang out pub, can be crowded sometimes. Good bartenders and staff with a good selection. Popping by here first would make sense since it's the absolute first in the downtown bar scene.

The Cannery: Not bad but not the best, decent selection and usually very nice bartenders. Good for one drink.

The Plonk: Has a reputation of being the "hipster" bar, but is actually pretty good and has an avant garde feel to it. Great bartenders who can make some of the best mixed drinks in town. A little more expensive than other places, but not by a lot(like one dollar more maybe).

The Copper: One of my other favorites with the Molly and Bacchus. Great bartenders and great selection for whiskey. Some are expensive but for good reason. I'd definitely check it out since it has a nice vibe and is probably the most chill bar in town.

The Crystal: Famous and/or infamous for their happy hour. Which depending on when can be a little bit too crowded. It's decent, not the best by any stretch of the imagination but definitely should be a part of any pub crawl here.

Finn: Tries to be classy, I have to admit I haven't drank there since it used to be Santa Fe Reds(which was a shitshow that I've been to on too many occasions). Looks chill from what I've seen.

Rockin R Bar: Dear god, could be the second worst bar in town. Crowded as hell during weekends with the worst of the worst you think of when you think college town. I used to spend a lot of time there before most of the international kids I hung out with moved back to their respective countries. Can be a lot of fun though, as I've enjoyed my time there before. Don't be surprised if the waitresses and drinks suck, though.

The Legion: I like the bar almost solely cause I befriended a bartender on one of my pub crawls and he gets me free drinks all the time. It's a good bar to hang out in despite the claustrophobic lay out. I'd check it out.

Bar 9: Known as the worst bar in town and where you have the highest chance of being roofied. Douchebag frat boy central. I'd experience it if I haven't before. But if you avoid any bar in town, it should be that one.

317: It's cool, check it out. Nothing special but that's all I can say really.

The Pourhouse: Meh, check it out since you haven't. But I never really cared for it. It does have tables and waitresses so if you just want to chill you can.

Zebra: Cool bar, but usually has a cover change since there's always a band playing. Never worth it when there's a cover charge. Otherwise, yeah check it out.

Colonel Blacks: Personally love it, probably the only bar in town that serves absinthe. Great vibe and has two lounge areas where you can just chill out on a couch. Check it out.

The Eagles: A friend of mine bounces there. It's mostly a bar for the older crowd and looks old as hell. It's the other veterans bar along with Legion. It's worth checking out in my opinion since it's the only bar in Bozeman with a real dart board.

As far as bars not in Downtown bozeman:

Cat's Paw: Go in with a group if you can. As you may know anything on north 7th is shady. It's decent but mostly for the guys coming in from the trailer parks, if that influences your decision.

Mixers: Country bar which is pretty decent, a little farther away from pub crawl lengths.

Specs: Ok sport's bar that has ok food. Not much else to say.

Hide-A-Away Lounge: Very chill and cool sports bar with good food.

Hope that helps.

Op if you don't come back with a drunken tale i'll be dissapointed

Whether its picking up a chick, or barfing all over the place or making a tit of yourself
Or maybe knocking over a table picking up your suprised girlfriend and carrying her across the room and spilling your drinks in the process and having the same significant other give you THAT pissed off look.
Yeah been there.

Have fun and happy 21st

Really though you've never snucknout to bars with your mates when you were 15? Pretending to be 18?
Maybe its a british thing
