Going to Tokyo on Saturday - Arcade Assitance

Have yet to be in Akiba at all. Also I think that Taito near my hotel is kind of lame aka UFO catcher filled but there's shinjuku sports land like 10 seconds away which is apparently great.

REAL RAP I just had a 5 win streak but then a bunch of junior high students started filming me with their phones and I got nervous and lost the end.

Anyway last night sports land was pretty full of people playing FB. Lineups for the machines and etc I'm not sure why one section had lineups and the others didn't? Maybe beginner machines or something I don't know.

And I still haven't gotten the chance to try new units lol. Need to find one empty machine somewhere that isn't connected to anything. Enjoying all the otoge more though. Going to impress 13 year old girls by playing project diva.

@EXVS nakamas, are these the non scrub machines? I just assumed 65% was your account win rate so didn't bother playing here ~

Those are the peasant/beginner machines. Must have a card with a 60% or lower win rate and be Bronze 2 (in the EXVS ranking) or lower.

Hmm since it's a lower win rate do they care if you don't have a card?

The other setups were labeled Team A and B and had no one playing on them. The final setups I forget what the sign was but there were a few people playing, a few empty spaces, and didn't seem like there was a problem when I hopped on to play, so if those popular machines was beginner zone I don't know what I was playing on.

They want cards on the beginner machines to verify that you're a beginner. On the machines that don't have that sign, it's free so you don't need a card.

Make sure you visit some hobby locker stores too when visiting Akiba, I can spend hours just browsing those places!

Red Submarine is easy to find (just out the Akihabara station, before you hit Chuodori) but I prefer the one in 1F of the Volks doll shop (if you want to be creeped out, go to the top floor, check out the giant dolls -- what's creepy to me is that there's only guys there shopping).

Also, if you can get out to Nakano, the Mandarake there is IMO better than the Complex in Akiba.

Super Potato has a small arcade at the top of their store too.

If you want me to be super jelly, take photos of you eating at CoCo Curry.

I am officially jelly now. Hopefully I can go sometime in the spring.

Go!

Hmm I guess I can try to make a banapass since the machines are right there but hopefully it's easier than registering my e amusement card ._.

The more money I waste on clothes and arcade the less hyped I am about mandarake and assorted sadlifery. Maybe I'll buy some artbooks. And not sure what coco curry is but no vegetarian / vegan options no buy (I'm starving)

I believe CoCo Curry's "mild" curry is vegetarian (but wouldn't stake my life on it). All the other curry sauces will be beef, no matter what other stuff you order to go with them.

Mandarake has tons of stuff: figures, animation cels, art books, video games, comics, etc.

Even if you don't buy, these places are fun to look at if you're at all interested in these things. Are all your three weeks in Tokyo? I don't recall seeing it in this thread.

Yeah pretty sure I had mayo at freshness burger yesterday. SHRUG. But I also went to the one vege ramen place in the whole city apparently.

And I might go to Tsukuba for a day but going to Kyoto on the 16th I think.

Nikko makes a good day trip (make sure you get on the 2-hour express, not the 4-hour train) if you are looking for something not in the city and aren't templed out yet (and if you're going to Kyoto, be prepared to be templed out). I don't think Kamakura is as good a day trip but it's certainly busy and much easier/quicker to get to.

Was in Akiba yesterday. Kind of meh. Too sadlife and too many small gross stores. Mandarake / kotobukiya stores were good though. That STG Cave merch was in the koto shop and bought artbooks from manda. (Also bad photo of cave cabs SDOJ too hard)

The good thing about akiba was the arcades were dead when I went aka finally got to try out new units in EXVS. Strike Noir and Stargazer to be exact. Take that Ord.

Anyone have recommendations for the best arcades for UFO catchers? I know the Sega ones in Akihabara and the Taito Station near Kabuki-cho. Any others? I need more daruhiyo and nemuneko.
