Isn't that a damn shame? I understand that Raditz would have almost probably continued to attempt to kill bother Goku and Piccolo - so they would've had to kill him, but Goku never even brings it up. I'm not sure if I would've liked to see him as a returning character, but I would've liked the idea of some deeper struggles they face in the series.

It's strange, because he seemed to want to keep Vegeta around, who seemed far more evil than Raditz. More dangerous too. His apathy towards the killing of his own brother seems kind of out of character.

Personally I'd like to see them talk about their Saiyan family more. It'd be a refreshing callback. They could make it up by bringing Bardock into super as the Saiyan who shifts through time. They could make it work.

Apologies for spoilers

He sensed some good in Vegeta, and he was ultimately right.

Raditz had no redeeming qualities, he was long gone.

Goku is already a terrible husband and father. Is it really a surprise that he's a terrible brother too?

Then again, Raditz is an even worse brother, so....

uuuuh

raditz was trying to kill goku and kidnap his son...and was a threat to whole earth

goku kept vegeta alive because he was really strong and he wanted to fight vegeta again

e: also, the whole fratricide thing isn't a point. he knew raditz was his brother for all of one day, there's now way he would form an emotional attachment to him , esp. due to the aforementioned threat he posed to gohan, and the earth

I think Goku was in panic mode because he was unprepared for Raditz, and thought he wouldn't see anyone stronger than King Piccolo again. Add in potential rustiness from the time skip, and I can see panicking about Raditz, but not about Vegeta after assessing the situation and training in Hell for a little while.

... Either that, or Toriyama forgot about Raditz, and fans loved Vegeta too much for him to let Vegeta die. That said, I kind of what them to bring Raditz back just to explore the character. Plus, it's an excuse to revive Nappa in a way that doesn't leave him a grunting mess, so that's a bonus!

EDIT: Oh wow, how could I forget that Son "I'm saving the world but I'm beating Perfect Cell too easily so let's give his ultimate form a Senzu Bean to prolong the fight" Goku would totally let Vegeta live just for the sake of a rematch?

Also, Vegeta was all but defeated when Goku spared him. He didn't have a choice with Raditz. They didn't just kill him, he died in the process too.

I've always been amazed he mud stomped his beloved grandpa and never gave a shit once he found out about it.

Also dragonballs that can bring about anyone who died is not used to bring back beloved grandpa.

But as we all know by now Goku really doesn't care much about family, not unless he's the one doing the endangerment. If anyone else tries to take his hobby he'll smack them down like a bitch.

Goku sparing Vegeta for moral reasons is a creation of the dub. The reason Goku spared him is he wanted to fight him again.

Dude doesn't really care about life as much as you think.

How awesome would it be if in the next movie they wish back Napa and Raditz!!?!!?!?

Unless theres some filler arc for that already.

Because his real family is on Earth (and we could argue he does not care that much about them either)

Goku doesnt develop an attachment to the Saiyans until Vegeta is killed by Frieza on Namek

lmao

I never realized how this sounds fucked up.

Even then, Raditz was nothing to Goku, he just met him and he was trying to kill him and kidnap his son.

They revived Nappa in a GT arc that revived almost every past villain (But not Raditz).

That said, all Nappa did was start destroying a city, grunt and smirk, and then get 1-shot'd by Vegeta. He didn't even get a line in. The Xenoverse version of this scene had
Nappa leading the also-resurrected Ginyu Force since Ginyu didn't die, however. That was cute, but was over just about as quickly.

EDIT: IIRC, doesn't
Nappa have unique interactions with the Ginyus in most other DBZ games, too?
Maybe that's actually a plot point Toriyama wrote for the main series, but never had a reason to work it in.

Child Goku convinced himself that the 4-star dragonball was his dead father.

Every time things settle down, Goku goes out and finds the 4-star ball and brings it back to his house, because he's attached to that one.

bc vegeta is the only one who cares about fighting and getting stronger as much as goku lol

So that gives you a free pass?
Mass murderer who likes to fight = let live!
Brother who kidnaps your son = KILL HIM NOW
I guess we're talking about Goku though so you can't expect any rational thought there.

True.

And when the dragon balls can be used to bring back everyone and they're all able to get them without trouble later nothing is done to bring him back. Instead Goku names his kid after the grandpa and contentiously lets him be put in danger and made to fight.

Goku has issues.

Goku is really a villain. The dude just wants to fight strong people. He would watch Earth get destroyed if it meant he could be in a tough fight.

That's why I named my dog after him.

goku let raditz go once trying to be a nice guy. that's why he had to go for his arms the second time and not the tail and die along with him

his grandpa said not to wish him back when goku met him at baba's place

Goku is a piece of shit.

Remove the smiles and personality and what you have is a violent sociopath who will see countless innocent deaths just as long as he has a sporting fight.

i was responding to a quote that said goku has no reason to care about vegeta, but he does due to what i said

nobody said anything about the moral implications

raditz is also a mass murderer btw

Goku would have let Raditz live if there was an opportunity, remember he did let him go when Raditz tricked him with his begging.

Raditz couldn't be defeated without killing him, Vegeta was beaten after a giant monkey crushed him but he was still alive.

Goku saved Vegeta because he wanted to fight again, and because at that point Vegeta was already beaten and no longer an immediate threat. If raditz had been beaten and retreating Goku likely would have spared him too. And keep in mind that during his first encounter with Vegeta Goku was winning until Vegeta pulled out great ape, so it wasn't completely unreasonable for him to think he could hold him off again in the future. Same reason he was willing to spare freiza after he had kicked his ass in super Saiyan

Goku met Grandpa Gohan back in Dragonball, but he told them they didn't need to resurrect him, since he liked the girls in the other world. Goku only learns that he was the one that killed Gohan years later in the Saiyan Saga, and it's odd how they never bothered with a scene where Goku meets Gohan again, but there was no reason to resurrect him.

Still, the pass on Vegeta is just ridiculous imo. He's more chaotic evil than Freiza and thus more dangerous. Just think about how many times he almost kills Gohan early in the series. The biggest WTF moment for me in that regard was when Krillin and Gohan were trying to summon the Namekian dragon but didn't know the password. You know the second that dragon came out he would have murdered them both in cold blood.

But I guess the whole point of the story is how simple(dumb) and "pure"(dumb) Goku is. Anyone with brains would have killed Vegeta at the first opportunity they got.

It's probably not worth arguing this because the story hinges upon Goku being okay with Vegeta for whatever reasons, but it's obviously ridiculous when you consider what Vegeta has done.
