Gold/White/NA Snes WiiU Pro controller spotted (pics)

Opposite to everything Xbox,Sega,PSX, They kinda skipped it on N64 and GC tho

welll, again, nintendo was first, so technically, xbox, sega and psx were opposite to nintendo.

and the reason is probably patents or something like that.

You are just a too young gamer who started playing in 2001 on Xbox instead of 1991 on SNES, so, probably not the only one.
Besides, A/B buttons with A to validate (or jump) and B to cancel (or run) is the world most common pattern for buttons. Can't believe MS and sony messed up while copying this. It always get me confused while I can play a japanese game with the correct pattern.

Unsure what Sony messed up considering they don't use letters, and in Japan they use Circle the same way they used the A on old Nintendo controllers, pick up PS1 FF or MGS and they both used Circle and X the exact same way as A and B.

Western audiences however prefer it the other way around which is why games here use them that way these days.

Oh good, I always enjoy arbitrary, uncomfortable ridges.

I don't even think that design's conceptually admissable, anyway. Don't console makers always patent the d-pad/analog stick/button curvature design of their first-party controllers? Third parties don't put square buttons and satellite-dish d-pads on their controllers because they think they're better, they do it because they're forced to.

The idea is cool but it looks like a SNES controller was bolted onto the Pro controller. It's novel though and will stoke the flames of nostalgia for people.

I was thinking that no way those controllers looked the ones I had seen... Brilliant idea sticking a mini-snes controller to a pro-pad

That SNES design wouldn't work well. The control pad and buttons are too close together and would be uncomfortable. Your thumbs would have to "reach over" or not reach at all.

Ideally there would be an NA SNES Classic Controller. EU and JP have their own, but it's the different color scheme with no good old concave X/Y buttons that the NA controller had.

I understand the concept of the controller, I just don't think it will work, personally.

For 18 years the main action buttons have been directly opposite the main directional function.

So how did everyone cope with that not being the case on the Dual Shock?

The D-pad is opposite the action buttons on the DualShock, unless you're talking about the left analog stick. Still, it's a different ergonomic design from this mock-up or even the official Wii U Pro.

sorry for the new thread but I really don't know where to put this now that the OT is gone. Mods, if you don't think this is thread worthy do as you wish!

There's no need to be sorry about creating new threads. You're supposed to do that! You should be sorry if you bump an old thread to dump news in or bury news in a megathread where only a few people will see it. Let's get out of this thread recycling mindset, please. There's no need for that and it's counterproductive to the purpose of this forum.

I got all excited for a second until I saw it was third party junk.

Nintendo, make some official wireless retro controllers. I imagine they would sell like hotcakes.

Too much to ask, perhaps?

It's not at all the same. The ergonomics are different, the button depression is stiffer, and you can't lay it down flat on a table.

If you're asking for a perfect, modernized replica of a two decade-old controller, then yeah, that is asking too much.

I really don't get how you are supposed to use the left analog stick and right set of ABXY buttons at the same time. Having them lower than the analog sticks is so awkward. My hands hurt looking at that.
