Good article on why Black Panther could be a game changer for Superhero films.

Its not just that Wakanda is the most technologically advanced nation, wealthy and influential. It's also that it only remained that way because it never let the West meddle in its affairs. They were suspicious and isolationist and they were right to be.

Did we retcon Blade out of existance to praise Marvel now?

Is that what you got out of the OP? Blade is very different from Black Panther in a number of important ways.

The salt will floe on release day.

It's possible the reaction to the movie could be more entertaining/illuminating than the movie itself, and that's taking into account the possibility the movie WILL be well made.

yasss I will live like I was born and raised in Pop-GAF. I want to put that mjolnir on that first dude's chest and be like "lift it".

I don't trust Marvel to not make this as safe as possible.

Edit: That said, I'm more interested in this than Captain Marvel at this point.

And all the girlfriends will tremble and shake in their seats during the inevitable shirtless scenes, throwing panties at the screen.

Can't wait for Civil War and Black Panther! Can't fucking wait!

Do other Marvel films have themes and subtext? I was under the impression they tried to play it as safe as possible.

When it comes to current real world themes and subtext, Iron Man 1 (war profiteering), Iron Man 3 (ptsd to a lesser extent) and Winter Soldier has the strongest themes and subtexts successfully realized in the genre.

It will be important, but not gamechanger IMO. Advanced black kingdoms and kings have already been seen in Hollywood, Blade already gave us the "black but being black is not its most important caracteristic" protagonist. We don't even know anything about how they're going to portray him. I don't see the news here really.

Edit: I retracted this statement. Put down the pitchforks, I come in piece.

Not as lucrative as playing it safe. Not when its brought you all of the dough.

They have so many minority characters, they kick open the door, they can print money with their Power Man and Iron Fist tv series.

I think I want to see this film, which one was it? The Scorpion King was a damn scorpion, man.

Advanced black kingdoms? i think i missed something.

I don't know if Black Panther is going to be a game changer, but the presentation of a reality in which Black people never needed white people, and in fact, have succeeded them in almost every imaginable way is going to touch people in parts of their brain they didn't even know could fire synapses. It's gonna be those parts of the brain that get them in trouble without even really understanding the hows & whys of it.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't understand the mentality of why this would offend people so much. I guess I just really don't understand racism, and the whole idea just pisses me off.

Out of all superhero films or just Marvel?

Also, forgive my ignorance but didn't Wakanda get hit by a meteor of some wonder element that enabled this technological revolution? And didn't they not so much pursue an isolationist policy as literally hide their country? And you expect Marvel to use this as a jumping off point for some savage attack on US race relations?

Marvel who got rid of the Nazis from World War II for fear of offending...who, Nazis?

Well not advanced in the sense of being futuristic, but in the sense of being functional.

Winter Soldier has the strongest themes and subtexts successfully realized in the genre.
Come on.

What are Black Panher villains btw? Are they deep or are they "racially charged" (which would be interesting)?

not only are you wrong, but a 2 second check of your post history is very telling RE: your attitude towards Marvel movie threads vs. DC threads

fanboyism is boring yawwnnn

Ulysses Klaw attempted to exploit Wakanda for it resources......where have I heard that story before?

Movie will be at least good, if not outright great. Just like every other MCU movie. I'm excited for it.

I remember the DC crowd being so happy that they could pound their chests over the "diversity" card over Marvel. It was cute.

I am pleased.

Black Panther is going to make people freak the fuck out, and I am going to savor every delicious tear.

Hmm...I'm now salivating for the dumbass tweets and racist thinkpieces this movie will incite

Possible? The fallout from this will be more entertaining than anything Marvel Studios could possibly churn out.

guilty and defensive as fuck. when they lash out, he puts them in the armbar of the Gods.

So are you guys excited for the movie? Or just at the thought of it making your political opponents angry?

It's been really rough for the DC crowd to not have a movie in 2yrs

More like Marvel fanboys attitude. I'd give praise where praise is due (except gotg haha, I hate that movie even though I know people love it). But the marvel over praise is tiring and kinda amusing.

Thankfully us in the interesting movie crowd got plenty, incluiding Winter Soldier and DOFP last year,

i don't know what's dumber, that i wouldn't be excited for a Black Panther movie or viewing racists as "political opponents"?

the only thing that's amusing is your hilariously transparent fanboyism in every Marvel thread. even in threads that aren't about MCU:

(in FF trailer thread)

I'm tired of the Mravel monopoly, even if it's not their intention, every studio jumping to have the new GoTG reminds me of all gaming studios sacrificing artistic integrity to make their own CoD.

Fox makes good movies. DC makes good movies. Marvel makes good movies. leave the childish fanboyism on the playground, b.

Cause, you know.

People freaking the fuck out about black people in film or black centric movies is summed up better by "politics" than it is by the evil R word, a word that's not justifiable by some folks unless the accused are caught in full Klan regalia.

The movie is going to be fantastic (I hope), the salt will be entertaining. If Thor/Annie/Hunger Games are any indication, Twitter is going to be a wild, wild ride next year.

I feel people are really overestimating how much guilt people will feel over this. The backlash is gonna be for decidedly different reasons.

people. I'm not talking about people though, I'm talking about persons.

I am not expecting kumbaya and heartfelt apologies for being assholes. I am expecting someone to flame out, and be entertaining as fuck when they do it.
