Good article on why Black Panther could be a game changer for Superhero films.

I don't even care if BP is a successful movie at this point.

I just want it to be good.

I want to live in a world where we have a really good Black Panther movie, is that too much to ask?

That description sounds like it was written by a 7-year old trying to imagine the most ridiculous shit possible. God I wish they stopped making superhero films.

Does he? What if MCU Black Panther was educated in the States and he's transformed Wakanda into a modern US style liberal democracy. What if his 'King' title is an anachronism he merely tolerates, only still in use because he is so beloved by his people as the progenitor of the Wakandan Renaissance? What if he's basically MCU Batman?

Honestly, that sounds more likely to me. Just make sure the Wakandan flag has some red and green in it, keep some tribal motif to the futuristic architecture and you're done.

These are almost the exact notes we're sending back to the scriptwriters in an hour or two.

Kidding, but it feels like something I'd expect

People will lose their minds to see folks with ceremonial headdresses programming quantum computers. That is what great abut Wakanda, they are so advanced but hold on to their culture and heritage above all else.

This - it's part of what makes Wakanda such an interesting setting.

Unless Marvel chickens out and makes BP a super-powered Coming to America.

Son of a bitch.

Honestly if we're mining for terrible ideas I doubt the movie will even take place in Wakanda at all, or it'll treat it like an afterthought like Thor did with Asgard and have most of the film take place in New York or something.

what was a good superhero movie to you?

And you'd better name a good one or else face the wrath.

You guys remember how they had to put a generic young, white co-star in Hellboy because the studio was afraid no one would sympathize with Perlman's Hellboy?

I'm sure they'd never consider doing that here.

not unless they want people to burn down studios and to pirate movies, literally, with ships and cannons and plank walking.

Only in this, the white boy will inherit the mantle of Black Panther and save the poor Wakandan's from the evil industrial western nations trying to steal their resources.

Oh right, this isn't a Fox movie. Nevermind.

I hope it is a game changer, can't wait to see him on the big screen. Switching gears here but I would love to see DC use John Stewart instead of Hal Jordan in future movies.

Well, i've very bad news for you.

No! Slayven promised grit and horror. He will pour hot wax on his enemies and live in a sci-fi setting like blade runner but with african aboriginal themes. I don't want to see some clown dancing clumsily to Come and get Your Love

bp should be much closer in theme with winter soldier than guardians.

It's not.

Fortunately for you and I, this BP movie will see the light of day after other good/successful superhero movies have come and gone.

Imagine a BP film being made prior to the original Spiderman movie. It could have ended up like one the ridiculous non-Nolan Batman films, or like DAREDEVIL.

Marvel has proven with Iron Man, Spiderman 2, Cap 2 and the Avengers that they know how to make good super hero movies. They've also seen how a dark hero like Batman can be portrayed in a well thought out, highly profitable manner.

I'm expecting nothing less than a good movie. Boseman better not settle for anything less.

atlantean soldiers did attack wakanda with the flood though. and it isnt the first time namors flooded something either

namors bum ass dropped the hammer first.

all that makes sense if there was no phoenix force, but there was, and it was Avengers vs Xmen. Jean Grey didn't want to eat planets and shit but she did with the phoenix. Colossus is the most peaceful guy you will ever read in comics and his buddy is Nightcrawler but he still beat the shit out of spiderman. Pummeled him to the ground. Cyclops killed professor X , he's suddenly the Punisher?

You know those two already had a go at it decades ago anyway, but truly respected one another even if they didn't like each other.

IMO, The real game changer for Super Heroes movies was Thor, I think Marvel depended a lot of Thor success to open up the universe in introducing elements that before that movie wouldn't had been green lighted or just toned down for the sake of giving it a Scientific explanation.

like mentioned, the phoenix force didnt change the people it possessed or forced them to do things against their will. it amplified their desires. thats why piotr tried to get kitty back. i dont see how they get praised for all the humanitarian stuff they did while possessed, but when namor took atlanteans to war to flood wakanda, it was the phoenix doing

Did you not read the thread?

Haha I'm kidding, you obviously didn't, that's really just a formality comment. :)

You can read page one where the prediction of freakouts and planning of teardrinking happens, and presumably throughout from there. Given that a certain segment of the population will freak out about just about anything, it's a safe bet. But it's weird.

Love the passive aggressive "joke" there, friend. You sure showed me!

Not only did I read the thread, I re-read it to make sure I wasn't off base before I responded to your stupid callout. Yes, people made commentary, myself included, about the the likely racist freakouts that this movie will produce on social media and other outlets. I'm not sure what that has to do with Blade, a rated R horror action movie that was nowhere close to being for family audiences, or shuri's anecdote about his/her experience reading about BP and how it made him/her feel. Racism is a thing. Part of the reason many Marvel fans were concerned about BP even being MADE is because of that, and because there are certain implications about Black Panther and Wakanda in general that challenge stereotypes and just might make some people uncomfortable. It's not ultra contreversial, but there's room for concern and commentary.

This idea that people are hoping that "people feel guilty" is sentiment that I haven't seen anyone here expressing, (and I'll admit I might have missed something, I'm totally here with a massive sinus headache at work right now and I feel like twice baked shit) but its fun to point and laugh at people being jackasses on Twitter. We do it here on GAF's OT almost every day.

Yes, there will be salt.

Yes, it will be fun to make fun of it.

Yes, the movie will likely be great.

No, nobody hopes that "average" people seeing it will feel guilty. Nobody even fucking cares.

The basic notion that Wakanda becomes such due to the lack of interference of the western world is hilarious and nothing else. Like a virgin who turns into a wizard.
King who's a superhero: Makes sense

Technologically advanced African society achieved without the effects of European colonialism: Ridiculous

Reminds me of real life in a way.

Do something amazing? You're the exception, do something bad? Of course you people would.

It's nice to speculate about the impact of a movie, but this is a Marvel/Disney movie and up until now they have always played it extremely safe in order to attract a big crowd. Black Panther won't be different.
