Good co-op on the PS4?

Look for recommendations that my family can play on the PS4. We just discovered Rocket League and we're having fun with it, so wondering what else is out there that we can play on one screen.

Don't need any regular sports (Madden, NBA, FIFA, etc) games as I'm aware of what's out there and we have a few already.

Diablo III
Trine I and II
Borderlands 2

The Lara Croft game
Pixeljunk Shooter
Towerfall Ascension
Divinity OS: Directors Cut whenever it releases

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. Yes, Iron Galaxy, but after downloading the huge patch it's very stable.

Also, need a big TV so y'all aint squinting.

Here are some I have played with my dear sister:
-Rayman Legends
-Trine 2
-Diablo 3
-Nidhogg
-LBP 3
-Towerfall ascension
-Resident Evil Revelations 2
-Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
-Binding of Isaac
-Dead Nation
-Lego Games

I assume you're looking for family friendly stuff

LEGO games (Marvel and Jurassic World are great)

Doesn't have to be that family friendly, kids have seen and heard it all already. Hell, they watch me play Bloodborne.

Great recommendations. Keep 'em coming!

Earth Defense Force 4.1 is as good as it gets, even if it isn't a family game as such. Absolutely huge package with tons of stages and weapons, both splitscreen (two player only) and online coop. Only out in Japan now, but coming soon to the states and Europe.

Borderlands 2 only had 2 player splitscreen on last gen but the Handsome Jack Collection on current gen has up to 4 player splitscreen.

Already been said many times, Diablo 3.

Borderlands Handsome Collection is great split-screen fun too.

Not "co-op" but Jackbox Party Pack has games that are great to play with 3+ people.

PvZ Garden Warfare

A word of warning that only Garden Ops mode is available for local co-op. My wife and I were really disappointed that was the only thing we could actually play together on the same screen. Especially since we both think it's one of the weaker/less fun things to play in the game.

I'll probably pick up Towerfull, but they are obnoxious about 'old graphics' so 8-bit stuff won't cut it.

Helldivers looks very cool though.

I have D3 on PC, do you only need 1 PS4 copy for co-op?

Diablo 3..up to 4 player local coop, and easy on the eyes since you all share a screen....and not split screen. It really is one of the best local coop games out on console....

Yes, and everyone has their own save file unique to their PSN account.

Gauntlet has been pretty amazing!

Game is seriously a blast!

- Long campaign
- endless mode
- daily challenges which reward unlockable cloaks
- offline/online drop in/out multiplayer for all of it

A list of the local co-op games I own on PS4:

  • Helldivers (4 players)
  • Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds Overdrive (4 players)
  • Lara Croft: Temple of Osiris (4 players)
  • Metal Slug 3 (2 players)
  • Trine 2 (3 players)
  • Jamestown+ (4 players)
  • Borderlands Handsome Collection (4 players)
  • Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition (4 players)
  • Dead Nation (2 players)
  • Resogun (2 players)

The most family fun I had so far was with Sportsfriends and Towerfall. Both are awesome and matches are pretty short, making it very easy to drop in or out and keeping things dynamic.

Trine 2 and Diablo are pretty great also if you want something that demands a bit more.

My GF and I have great fun with Borderlands Handsome Collection, as well as Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. Binding of Isaac also has 2 player, but it's not something you should buy just for that. The single player is fantastic fun, though.

Couch co-op is really something that more games (if it fits, obviously) should implement.
