Suprised Pony fans wasn't the first reply. Not that I agree, but there was pretty much a revolt here on GAF. Then again, the topic does say GOOD series.

Haven't watched it, so no comment.

Transformers.

Any new series/toyline will be met with

before it's the best thing the franchise has put out.

I don't think most of us have to deal with Pony fans in real life.

My worst experience has been Godzilla fanboys, no offense to anyone who likes Godzilla.

Basically, they told me in Japan that it is considered the second best film after Seven Samurai and when I asked for a source to back up that claim...they all started to have a go at me.

Nolan fanboys in general, to be perfectly honest. TDK is a great film, but the obsessive dudebro fanboyism made me want to hate the film; to this day I can't praise the film in conversation, instead dwelling on the few criticisms it deserves ("cheesy monologues, Two Face...").

Batman Begins is not a great film, and isn't particularly good. But as I'm in the minority on that, no point in debating it; regardless, it is also heralded as some amazing movie when it clearly isn't.
I'm the opposite. Batman Begins is awesome but TDK was just boring and uninteresting whenever Ledger wasn't on screen. The best kind of Nolan fans are the ones that view Memento as his best work. That movie is so much better than either Batman movies.

Zelda fans, Metallica fans(most metalheads really), Monty Python fans, Mystery Science Theater, The Godfather fans, hip hopheads, hell a lot of people. If it exists there's rabid fanboys out there who'll make you hate it.

There's also terrible series with horrible fans, like Twilight, My Little Pony and Spike Lee.

Inception the movie isn't that great. It is a good flick but I guess it is because of the Nolan love. Joss Whedon I really don't understand his fans either.

Gundam fans who think the anime is some kind of mecha gospel, and isn't actually a well produced 22 minute toy commercial do get on my nerves. Sure, it didn't start out as that, but it certainly is now.

PC Gamers can also be absolutely horrible snobs that I'd rather no one deal with, but that's not a series or anything.

inception's overrated to be sure

but looking at this summer's movies so far it feels like a breath of fresh air compared to all this crap

edit: also agree with arrested development

yea this too...

Buffy is an awful series as is Firefly.

I'd also add Lost apologists to this list. For years they dismissed criticism by claiming the show runners knew the end game all along, and if we would only wait we'd be rewarded with the awesome answers. Of course, after the utter disaster the final season was, they pivoted to the "well I love it for the characters, bro" argument.

Pony-gaf. I'm head over heels with My Magic Pony, draw pictures of them li'll cuties all day, and think of Pony-based nicknames for my friends... but I can't stand Pony-GAF. They just go overboard.

TBH you can cherry pick crazy/bad fans from anything under the sun. Everything has terrible fans if you look hard enough.

If I had to pick anything that seems to have a large fanbase that goes above and beyond the actual normal levels, I'd actually say:

New Battlestar Galactica

Stargate

NuBSG is pretty good with weak parts, but it became like science fiction for hipster nerds; it's respectable to watch a spaceship show because everyone is always depressed, angry, and desperate, and everybody dies. It created a lot of late-to-the-party "sci fi fans" who turned their nose up at the genre before BSG made it cool.

Stargate fans pretty much disgraced themselves with their insane backlash over Stargate: Universe, where they demonstrated raw and unbridled hate for the first Stargate series that wasn't a saturday morning cartoon. Fans went beyond the pale with not merely legitimate criticisms, but essentially refusing to comprehend what they were seeing on the screen. (People talking? Character development? What's that? WHY NO BODY SHOOT ALIENS THIS WEEK?)

Bonus: an irony with citing these two shows together is that insanely bitter Stargaters cried that SGU was just a clone of BSG where everyone was depressed, angry, etc etc all the time. It was a convenient excuse, since compared to NuBSG, SGU was Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends.

Are we talking internet fans or real life fans? Cause that seems like a big difference to me.
Internet fans, obviously.

This is GAF, so none of us socialise outside the Intrawebs.

I love the show, but some fans of The Wire really make me want to like it less. I don't think it needs to be brought up as often as some folks seem to think it does.

This, it's a fucking awesome show, but some people take it to insane levels.

I'd also say Entourage. The show itself is oftentimes a delightful, warm bath of an escapist fantasy, but the majority of its fanbase are borderline retarded dudebros who think it is 100% realistic and educational for their own careers instead of the fairytale that it really is.

Mass Effect.

One one side you have to people who love to bitch and moan about it all the time.
On the other side you have the people who make the creepiest fan-art ever.

That would imply MLP is good.
