Good series with horrible fans

Portal
Sonic (though the current quality of the Sonic franchise is questionable)
Anime in general (Naruto and Death Note are particularly prominent examples)

after Dollhouse I can't claim to be a fan. I still can't believe I watched the entire first season of that travesty.
Yeah, but then Season 2 came along and elevated it to one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time.

so good

It's good to see people mention "the wire" fans, can't go to much tv show threads on most forums without hearing, "oh it's good but the wire shits on it".
The wire is a good show but compairing it to every other show, even cartoons , makes me lol.

Also spot on with someone mentioning chappelles show fans, repeating "I'm rick james" bitch 24/7, I felt bad for Dave when he got heckled by that.

I was going to broadbrush it as "Christopher Nolan fans", but I'm not feeling particularly spiteful today. Besides, no one has irked me with praise for Memento or The Prestige. And no one talks about Following or Insomnia full stop. Its mostly TDK and Inception where people have gone off the deep end.

But they're all great movies... It just so happens that TDK and Inception are slightly greater.

What's so bad about portal fans? I'm curious...

HEY DID YOU KNOW THE CAKE IS A LIE, HEY DID YOU? WELL, THE CAKE IS A LIE. HURR DURR I'M REFERENCING WESTERN GAMES EVEN THOUGH I'M AT AN ANIME CONVENTION AREN'T I COOL?!

The capslock was needed, since these people would yell.

battlefield seems to be heading that way

I would add valve fanboys, but it breaks the "good series" part of the OP

Queen fans who say things like "no good music has ever been made after Queen" and go around singing their hits all the time. -_- I feel like I dislike their music simply because of their fan base.

Also weeaboos and their "everything is Japan is so much better" attitude. Funniest part is most of the ones I've met have never been to Japan. They clog up my Japanese courses and wear cosplay to the lectures. And since its my major I get lumped in with them...

Every series ever, imo.
I guess I just hate the average peson.

edit: let me join the whedon hate train
i hate him, all of his shows and especially his fans.

Glee for sure. (Edit: Just realised the series has to be good)

Breaking bad, dexter.

very smug fans

Don't know any Breaking Bad fans, practically no one watches it in the UK. I love the show but what makes the fans so bad?

Firefly fans can get a little nutty, especially with their beliefs that somehow the show can still be brought back. It was a good show, but just let it go.

I want to say Portal fans for pounding that song and THE CAKE IS A LIE into the ground over and over, but I think that is more idiots latching onto something.

Almost all rabid fans of old school game series complaining about how a new version does not meet their vision of what it should be. Fallout, X-COM, etc.

People who are fans of things they watched as kids and then claim how a remake is "raping their childhood". This new version does not invalidate what you like about the original (which is probably half nostalgia anyway). Just ignore the new version and keep clutching to what you liked.

I also have to agree with a lot of fans of The Wire. If it really was the greatest series ever it would not have bored me to tears in the second season to the point that I stopped watching it. I really did enjoy the first season though.

I don't think bad fans can ever stop me from watching a good show. I can always ignore them, or not participate in any discussion.

Whedon fans, despite liking many of his shows. Especially the Firefly fans. Give the fuck up - it's over.

Nolan fans. They think everything this guy makes is instantly gold months, nay years, before release.

James Bond Movie fans. Shitting all over Roger Moore's stuff. Some of it isn't that great but it's a lot of fun. I also dislike the ones who feel that gadgets, Q and Moneypenny will ruin the franchise if they ever return.

Bourne Fans. It's the inferiority complex. Just because you guys choose to back another JB doesn't mean you can shit on the based god that is James Bond.

Doctor Who Fans. The ones who seem to dislike every episode that airs yet still love the show. I don't get you.

Song of Ice and Fire fans. God damn you fucks for getting me into this franchise. God damn you! For the next year I will only be reading Song of Ice and Fire books. Also, I swear that is a spoiler in the Dance of Dragons official thread title!

The worst fans seem to worship the creator more than the content of the series.

Well Zelda fans can be pretty bad if you go to the wrong parts of the Internet. Worst of the bunch of course are the Tingle haters.

Apple fans make me embarrassed to use Apple products, but it is easy enough to avoid their websites.

Those who declare themselves as part of the PC Master Race. It's a terrible joke thats gone too far. I feel sorry for those who have been using the PC as their primary gaming system for years only to have this new generation let the whole side down.

You can't take the sky from me!
And you can't stop the signal either!

I think Firefly fans are pretty harmless and mostly doing their own thing, even if it is rewatching the one season on a weekly basis.

The Whedon anti-fans(haters) that show up like sharks to blood when his name is mentioned aren't exactly any better than the fans, by the way.

On a more serious note: there are no good fan bases unless you are in one. Unshared obsession is annoying by default.

This is truth. Your avatar looks like an evil version of that crow from the secret of Nimh. Your avatar is from a penny arcade comic right?

Yeah, it's a Deep Crow from Penny Arcade. http://www.penny-arcade.com/archive/?q=deep+crow&x=0&y=0 <-- Here's all the relevant comics.

I'm sure I can make all the same claims about Penny Arcade fans that people have been making about everything else. Because every group of fans has some number of the "horrible" variety.

YuGiOh which leads into Magic: The Gathering topics.
Harry Potter
World of Warcraft
Star Wars

Don't get me wrong, I like these things, but the fans turn these things I like into an embarrassment to even bring it up. It leads to awkward conversations and stupid theories.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Metallica fans :/

Call od Duty.

The games are fun and enjoyable but the fans act like its the first FPS series ever and go to obsessive levels to be god-like.

Well pretty much every one of his films(don't know about the indie work) has been really well received and the last two movies were behemoths and the best summer flicks.

TV:
Star Trek Next Generation
Dragonball Z
YuGiOh
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Firefly
LOST

Video Games:
JRPGs
Everquest
World of Warcraft
Nintendo

Products:
Apple

I don't mind some of those things... WoW, Nintendo, Apple sometimes. They just seem to cater rabid fanbases that have ground at my gears at some point in my life.

Stargate fans pretty much disgraced themselves with their insane backlash over Stargate: Universe, where they demonstrated raw and unbridled hate for the first Stargate series that wasn't a saturday morning cartoon. Fans went beyond the pale with not merely legitimate criticisms, but essentially refusing to comprehend what they were seeing on the screen. (People talking? Character development? What's that? WHY NO BODY SHOOT ALIENS THIS WEEK?)

Bonus: an irony with citing these two shows together is that insanely bitter Stargaters cried that SGU was just a clone of BSG where everyone was depressed, angry, etc etc all the time. It was a convenient excuse, since compared to NuBSG, SGU was Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends.

Sorry, not all Stargate fans are complete idiots. SG1 is my favourite show ever and I'm a huge fan of the franchise. I gave SGU a chance and it took two seasons for me to finally like the show then they went and cancelled it. It wasn't the same show no, but it was still Stargate to me.

Stargate SG1, Atlantis, and SG:U

The fans always bitched about everything would boycott episodes / entire seasons, only watch on DVR and then have the nerve to complain when they all get canceled.

I didn't, I couldn't watch it first run though - being in Australian and all. I watched it on free to air TV in Australia even when it was 6 months late.

I'd definitely agree with Arrested Development. That's the show you get a ton of "This is the best thing ever" comments about, even when not asked, and even when the topic wasn't even about TV.

If football were a series, Steeler fans and Oregon Duck fans.

I am right there with you, SG1 was amazing and I still watch the whole series (yes all 10 seasons) at least once a year. Hell I even have the gate address from Earth to Chulak on my right fore arm.

And you are right about SGU at the end of the 2nd season it really was getting very good. Makes me so mad that they ended it the way they did.
