Good shows to doze off to

Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's on Amazon Prime Video, and I just started watching it. Will normally get an episode and a half in before falling asleep, and then the next day I'll jave to find the point when I fell asleep, but man what a great show, and there's so much of it!

Ancient Aliens. Nothing beats the soothing ruminations of ancient astronaut theorists.

What if, as ancient astronaut theorists believe, people falling asleep during the show was part of a conspiracy by aliens to cover up the truth?

This show is always great to doze off to. Usually get some hella weird dreams because of it, though. Haha!

NCIS is good to fall asleep to. Also Bobs Burgers and Bojack Horseman. All shows I enjoy, but I do pass out real quick when I put them on. Same goes for Family Guy and American Dad.

My girlfriend puts SpongeBob on before she goes to sleep.

I like putting on an old tv show without laugh tracks. Like from the 20s-40s.

Something about that crackly audio feed.

EDIT: Whoa bro, same ^^

Well, favorite comedies.

Any sitcoms where multi-episode plots are either nonexistent or nonessential.

Friends, Frazier, the Simpsons, Seinfeld, any of those boring law enforcement procedurals if that's your thing, etc

Gotta go with something light hearted, so generally a comedy. Episodes you've seen before are best, because you don't have to be engaged in it. Personally, I do episodes of Family Guy or Sunny in Philadelphia. Stand-up comedy that you've already seen is good, too. Been doing some of George Carlin acts recently. A constant voice is good.

Falling asleep to something is great. With silence, I get caught up in my own thoughts.

Watching Zoo as background noise right now. It seems like it fits the bill, it is quite mediocre and you don't really miss much by not looking.

Shame you've tried Grey's Anatomy already. That usually works for me. Nice, long episodes with tons of dialogue and not too much else happening. First you watch, then you listen with your eyes closed, then you fall asleep. ER works for the same reason for me.

Pawn Stars, How it's Made, Planet Earth. Documentary-esque, educational shows. Sometimes its just the recipe I need for sleeping.

I'm not a big fan of using Star Trek TNG for falling asleep, since it has some bright flashes of light here and there that I notice even with my eyes closed (plus the loud opening credits).

Sitcoms are generally good. Frasier would probably be my pick. Planet Earth and Life have also been helpful when falling asleep.

for me its Bob's Burgers, and How It's Made. They arent bad shows by any means, but they tend to knock me out for some reason lol

I like to watch classics to fall asleep, like I Love Lucy (Amazon Instant) or Simpsons (FXX).

Home Movies is also a great choice, but isn't on any free streaming services IIRC.

I usually run playlists on youtube/vlc. I have a couple that I tend to cycle through every few weeks/months.

Nostalgia Critic /AVGN
Top Gear specials
Space flight /aerospace docs
history and/or science docs

Animal Kingdom.

In no particular order:

  • Futurama (though the last few seasons has some louder audio mixing so you may want to avoid those)
  • Bob's Burgers
  • Psych (there's an episode with an air horn which drives me insane once every few months though)
  • Parks and Rec
  • Gamegrumps on Youtube. Stick to the longer Dan and Arin series as the other ones tend to be more loud.

I want to say Archer but in general there's too much yelling.

Oh! By the way, if you're randomly in the mood to listen to something instead of watching something to bed try Max Richter's Sleep.

It's an 8 hour long set made to induce relaxation/sleep. It's not just repetitive ambient noises either. Sometimes I listen to it while I do homework just to stay focused and relaxed. A sample of it called From Sleep (or day dream) is here.

This is why I wish netflix would have a random episode button for a series. I like just watching friends but it'd be nice to just have it pick an episode for me.

for the past i dont know how many years, ive been falling asleep to forensic files or similar programs. whatever is on the investigation discovery channel is all similar to forensic files.

New Girl fits all your criteria, OP. Lightning-quick dialogue, it's a sitcom with few outdoor shots, so there's little chance of loud horns or gunfire, and while all the actors are attractive, it never gets "sexy" unless it's played for laughs.
