Age of Decadence

Both games will likely go down in history as cult classics. They didn't sell nearly enough considering their quality.
I still need to try Underrail, but Age of Decadence is one of the best RPGs I've played in
years. The writing is incredible. Characters regularly lie, cheat, steal, and the story can wildly vary depending on how much you KNOW is true, versus what you experienced. Nobody's an idiot, and most people are only out to use you, but nobody's "evil". Everyone has reasons for doing what they do, and it all meshes together. Play it as a regular character going along with things and you'll get a lot of "fake" lore, with the real events only pieced together gradually if you look for them. You really have to pay attention and do a lot of reading between the lines. You'll also have to do multiple playthroughs for everything, as each class only gets to see about 60% of the total story, and that's if you know what you're doing.
Or find one of the "special" characters who never lie. Get them talking and they'll lay on the exposition.
I couldn't get enough of that bleak world, and I'm really glad that there's going to be another game set in it. Sold about ~35k so far, and they've been good about supporting it. First game in forever I not only bought a few minutes after learning about it, but also loved it right away. 49 hours later and I still haven't even met everybody. Combat's pretty tough, makes playing as a thief or (especially) an assassin frustrating if you absolutely
must fight (and you rarely do, there are so many stat checks and tools that I'd say genuine use-your-sword fighting should be a last resort). Only the mercenary is really specced to turn into a decent fighter who can take on multiple enemies. Otherwise, standard soldiers will act like real soldiers and kill you pretty fast. The game helpfully reminds you on several occasions of how screwed you are.
I'll add:
Missed the Kickstarter and had no idea this existed until it released. A seriously fun virtual novel, under 30k sales total. Between these two games I had more fun at the end of 2015 than I've probably had in the last ~3 years.
