5-0 google

Google may have won this round, but others picked Bing web search results over Google nearly 2 to 1 in blind comparison tests.*

lol bing

Bing sucks at finding the stuff I want. Google is getting pretty bad though. Too much stuff is getting black listed on google and that pushes the shitty spam sites higher up.

but... the best search engine is

This is one of the reasons I don't like duckduckgo, even if you are sarcastic :)

Doing a simple search of "google vs bing neogaf".

Went to google 4 out of 5... the fifth was a draw, which was a really crappy search I threw in there. I nearly didn't take the "challenge" when the first round was failing to load...

Here's the problem. Even if Bing is close, what motivation do I have to switch? Unless the results are OVERWHELMINGLY in Bing's favor (clearly not from anecdotal evidence in this thread) what reason is there to switch?

I switched because of the Rewards. Gotten $50 in Amazon GC from using Bing the last year. I can earn $5 per month easy by just doing what I normally do.

Google - 4
Bing - 1

tbh, it was hard to tell the difference between the two so I just picked from which contents look more interesting and Google won. The only time Bing won was when I searched for the name of a porn actor. Bing completely sucks at foreign language contents. In this case, I was using Japanese language.

Google 3, Bing 1 (and Bing only because I thought it was a google result at first) draw 1 (Though Bing probably would've edged out slightly in that draw since it's safe-filter blurs "adult content.")

try searching for names of pornstars. Guarantee bing wins. Which is what they know and how the test is rigged.

I see what you mean. If you put in the names of pron stars, bing shows a small row of related videos which google does not. Neat feature. I wonder who at Microsoft decided to put that feature in.

For most normal searches the quality of the results if pretty close. That's where other factors come in, too.
I prefer bing's home page, bing's layout, bing's image search, bing's video search (for one it's not just youtube but more video-provider-agnostic).
Generally bing is preferable when it comes to how it ties into other services. Google just tries pushing google products. Microsoft tries to integrate more services it doesn't own, such as those video sites, facebook, twitter.

For me that's enough to make bing my primary search, with google being easily accessible, whenever a search result isn't good enough.

I also like rooting for the underdog as opposed to always supporting a monopoly (here in Germany google has like 96% market share).

You know what? I think Microsoft is using this as a massive research project. This must be giving them tons of data on why Google kicks their asses so badly in search results.

For example, one test I tried was putting a name of a movie and my postal code. Google gives me theatres playing the movie close to me and their timings as the first result (supremely awesome) while Bing gives me gibberish, sure Google wins on bingiton but MS is now gathering the information to figure out why.

Redirects to bing.com here too. Germany, though.

Edit: Works via proxy.

Yea, Google has been doing stuff like this since it started. It's a good idea - it will show exactly how people use Google and why Bing comes up short.

and this is why Google is the best and will be for a long time to come.

Bing does this weird thing where it rearranges your search results as soon as you click on something. If I click a link and then go back to the search, the link will suddenly be up 5 places or down 5 places.

Just redirects to Bing for me. Doesn't matter, as I'm pretty sure the only people that actually use Bing are the ones that are too dumb to change it from the default in IE.
