Clementine is cool, but this track really doesn't do a whole lot for me. I'm not sure why, and I've listened to it twice in a row already.

Given that Albarn is a fan of Scott Walker who's done much more challenging work, you can fuck right off with this line of thinking

Wow, I'm not getting any kind of impression that a lot of people are from this, I'm guessing the thirst for new tracks meant people wanted a slam-dunk by them. It makes me think if anything Alburn could've recorded would have been good enough.
Anyway, fuck I really liked it. Clementine was superb here. I didn't get as many chills as I imagine was intented since it's pretty apt to release this given the current political climate. Would this go down well as a proper single? No way, but I love all of Gorillaz quirkier tracks, Superfast Jellyfish is weirdly the one I've listened to way more than anything in Demon Dayz or Gorillaz.

They have plenty of songs like that. Gorillaz is really just Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. And Albarn does all the music, at least the bones. He composes, he directs the project. He doesn't have to sing for it to be his song.
Gorillaz has always been a mega collaboration between a bunch of rotating artists.

There's a decent chance this song isn't even going to be on the new album. There is plenty of precedence for one-off songs with the Gorillaz before a new album (Rockit comes to mind).

None of them returned. It has always been a rotating ensemble. It's just gotten bigger with time.
I do wish they would scale back the guests a bit. On the first album the only real front and center guest was Ibrahim Ferrer. Really beautiful Damon vocals all over that record.

I love Blur as well, but it's a different kind of vibe from Gorillaz.
