Got a PM from the butt

I think this may be an issue as to why so many GAFfers have different opinions and get aggressive to each other. GAF is a multi-cultural Community and sometimes the reason why people don't get along it's because of very different cultures and mentality.

I must say at first I was surprised so many people from the US disliking the Xbox One. Why? Because in many places people listen that the US are a bunch of proud people and can only look for themselves. When I saw that many GAFfers were against the Xbox One based on the hardware or when those DRM's were being implemented (and now they are not) I didn't saw them as Americans but as gamers who were mad at a situation that could harm them.

If you ask me, patriotism should be the last reason the get a Xbox One, you are now a aware consumer, make you choice based on your knowledge.

I love GAF, I think everyone knows that and I respect every single GAFfer in here, I hope we can all contribute to keep the discussion health every time but when that doesn't happen I can see that a different mentality or culture is the main difference for that. We just need to accept that there are different people.

Hope this is not offensive by any means, I'm in Europe, I can't wait for the PS4 and I also had a 360, Kinect and so on. I saw how ignored my country was for the XB1 and how US-Centric the XB1 seems to be with their offers, apps and services yet I respect that. But this is not about how much a company focus on a country, it's about getting the best hardware for the money you are spending.

Mod Bishop made a thread with some great comments from GAFfer after the original thread was locked in order to try and keep a mature discussion, you can see polite people discussing there why MS is getting a bad press and why it's not a bad thing to, as a consumer, demanding the best for your money. We all want the best for the less possible and right now PS4 may be offering just that for many consumers yet people won't care and get the XB1 anyway. No one is wrong, again, it's just a different mentality. ;)

Great post!

And yes, I'm an American, living in America and I still find what he said extremely awkward. Patriotism can be a weird thing I guess. Still love my country and love GAF but Microsoft deserves all the "hate" (facts) that people keep bringing up here. The company has been going to shit for the past two years. Anyone that is just blindly following them just because they are an American company is just being completely ignorant and illogical.

I expect to see a lot of grayed out names when I wake up to this thread. Posting private messages without consent, patriotism, people arguing the value of Xbox Live, people calling cboat posts FUD. Too much wrong with this thread.

Some crazy buttocks on this train?

OP has posted a screenshot also.

Aye, I'm just wondering about the 'trap' you apparently fell for hook, line and sinker. I'd have fallen for it too, because the hypothetical and what Bish actually said don't seem equivalent to me. There's a difference between giving the full contents of a PM in a rewritten form and just saying "had a PM, there may be bad news on the horizon"

Don't forget backseat modding.

Oh, whatever this "explosive" news is, I really wish CBOAT, mods and admins involved would let us know. I understand if there is no proof or if its merely hearsay. However, assuming it's actually concrete info, if it's something serious like catastrophic hardware failure, or some kind of DRM bait and switch (or anything equally terrible), we have a right to know. People are gonna be spending an exuberant amount of money on this thing very soon. It's only fair to let them know what the deal is and if it's a solid investment.

I try to support US based companies as much as possible. The economy is in bad shape. And btw I don't have a favorite console manufacturer. But the Microsoft hate around here is so ridiculous! Obviously Nothing I say will change that.

It's all ups and downs, mate. I remember Sony at the beginning of current gen. Man, the hate was intense. Probably not as much as what MS is seeing now but still a lot. I wouldn't take it to heart.

Sony bounced back and look: now everybody loves them. The gen hasn't even started yet. Hopefully MS will learn from the negative response and get back on track.

Of course I have but I condone it.

are you sure you're using "condone" right??

youre equally hypicritical...whats the difference? you've lost the moral high ground simply by admitting this...

You seem to agree with me on the fact that we shouldn't post PM's but yet are unable to condone the actions of the OP and seem to be actively supporting his decision to post. I can't understand this hypocritical stance you have taken.

its simply the idea that he didn't reveal anything...there was no sensitive info, its not a big deal in this case...

my problem with your stance is that i dont see you jumping all over other people for doing the exact same thing as the OP by leaking (UNVERIFIED) information sent to them in a PM by Cboat....

You don't think there's a difference between essentially rewriting the complete contents of a PM and alluding to the gist of one?

whats REALLY the difference? in one scenario youre directly quoting someone...in the other your paraphrasing what they said...the same information is getting out either way...youre still giving out information that was sent to you in a "private" message...

Call centers are in India, manufacturing is China.

No, the two scenarios offered were a paraphrasing (rewrite of cboat's pm) and a one sentence hint as to the contents (bish's post). There's a difference.

Set us up the BOMB CBOAT!

CBOATA DROP THA BOMB!

Do eet!

I'm on 23hrs no sleep; got a little giddy; I apologize for this behavior. :/ Please go easy on me!

I love the irony of people's outrage over someone essentially "leaking" a PM from someone that everyone loves for leaking information that was not meant to be shared.

Thank you for answering and for reading the my post fellow GAFfer, even if you disagree I'm just glad we can keep a proper discussion going on even if this thread gets eventually locked up. I also found awkward the way he expressed his opinions but I respect it either way, I just don't agree with such line of thinking.

are you sure you're using "condone" right??

condone
kənˈdəʊn/Submit
verb
1.
accept (behaviour that is considered morally wrong or offensive).

Maybe not, I may have got it the wrong way round.

its simply the idea that he didn't reveal anything...there was no sensitive info, its not a big deal in this case...

Once again you completely miss the point of my argument. It is nothing to do with what the PM contained, it is that a PM has been posted without proof of permission and that action is being condoned by people in here including you (even though you posted that it was a wrong thing to do which is why I said hypocritical stance). Only a handful of ppl are saying anything about it.

its simple...if im an insider...

and i send you a PM saying "Dude, you have NO IDEA how fucked up the Xbox One is..."

is it really different if you:

A. direct quote me
or
B. say: "OMG, Metfanant knows something is seriously wrong with the Xbox One!"

no...there is no difference there...you got the same vague, inflamatory, unverified, "private" information out to the public...

More "explosive" Microsoft news?

I wish at some people certain people would just pack it in and accept the fact Microsoft is very clearly poison at the moment for our industry. Brand loyalty, I thought, could only stretch so far but alas.

Because I am a proud American.

If this is your reason for supporting a company, please stop and re-evaluate.

Microsoft and hundreds of large US founded companies (perhaps most?) should be considered proudly Irish, Puerto Rican or Singaporean dependent on the currently in vogue tax loop hole.

Given their tax avoidance and their vocal support of a one off "profit repatriation" exercise at a significantly reduced tax rate most of these "global" companies should be considered the enemies of real tax paying American people.

Sorry, wouldn't normally post in a thread like this but come on... seriously?

Some will always stand with them, some are ignorant, and some just need to have their hands on a bad product before they change their mind. I think the latter will end it for some people and increased word of mouth will stamp out more ignorance. But we'll see what happens at launch.

no, not there isnt...because in both cases ZERO sensitive information is being made public...

youre still using it wrong lol...

i asked if you ever divulged a secret and you originally said...

Of course I have but I condone it.

that sentence means..."Yes i have divulged a secret that someone told me, and im ok with it"

no, i understand your point...im simply trying to point out your hypocrisy in picking THIS situation to take a stand on...when you have not in the past, had issue with others doing the same thing...

i would not have posted the PM personally..but im not gonna judge this dude for posting a quote that said nothing we have not already been told by Bish, Thuway, famous, and Cboat in the past...

The A and B here aren't the A and B you presented to Mocoworm, this is A (direct quote) and C (one line allusion), when your 'hook, line and sinker' was B (paraphrasing A) and C (one line allusion). Never mind though, I give up and this ain't taking the thread anyplace good.

This is basically a thread about a PM saying there is no more news to share. I wish they would hurry up and release these damn consoles already. This is getting ridiculous.

Whenever I think my week is getting boring. Here comes a CBOAT thread
I really love Microsoft, but damn, I can't find myself buying a Xbox One in the future (or a PS4)

So unphased by both of them

The truth always find a way to come out eventually... whether it's leaked or not. It did in the case of RROD failures... and ultimately it didn't matter all that much because the Xbox 360 still finished a strong second in its home market.

There are still details from that whole escapade that were never formally disclosed. Like when console manufacturing dates were doctored post-repair for a stretch of two months to present the illusion of a new console (or at least new parts) when, in fact, all that was included was a "circa 2006" faulty Xenon motherboard plucked out of the casing of an unsold Xbox 360 in mainland Europe or Asia. Does that news matter now? Not in the least. Different regime in charge.

Nobody's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy a next-gen console this month. If you're paranoid or apprehensive, wait. "Demanding" to know insider information just comes off as petty. Wait out the anecdotes from people who buy these new systems after they're released and make an informed decision then. Even the most inside of insiders can't anticipate everything because there will be issues that don't rear their ugly head until after these systems are released en masse and communicating to one another through Xbox LIVE or PSN. That's when a lot of "this is probably going to be an issue but we can't really be sure" type problems manifest themselves.

Would I buy an Xbox One at launch? I wouldn't... but then, like many of the purveyors of Doritos out there, I'll have one in my house later this month anyway. Anyone that's already committed to buying a new Xbox One on the 22nd isn't likely to change their mind even if CBOAT came out tomorrow and said the DRM undo bricks consoles or that the external power supply is a fire hazard or the new Kinect causes sterility. They've made their purchase decision as consumers... whether it's an informed one or not... and, ultimately there's nothing wrong with that. Every system has great games to offer at some point. Even the spectacular failures of this industry have boasted a gem or two.

Call centers are in India, manufacturing is China.
That's actually incorrect. Most of the call center support is based out of the Philippines.

Have to agree with the buttocks. I don't see how anyone can seriously give Microsoft $500+ for this machine. It's like rewarding bad behavior.

but thats half the problem here....the PM in the OP says nothing!...

literally it says "i cant change their minds so its not worth it...but i do have some shit that cant be verified, but would blow your mind"

if Cboat had PM'ed him and actually told him what that "shit" was...and he came here and said...

"oh snap! Cboat just told me some shit about the Xbone that will make you run for the hills" (<---- what has been done by other members in the past)

there is no difference...same shit...different delivery method

Regarding this pm maybe people are still considering buying because of the games? Don't people buy systems for games they want to play?

He/She even said it themselves a few days ago, the games are going to be good.

What are you talking about? Poison? Give me a break. The industry and consumers clearly benefit from having two healthy platforms. The only reason Sony has recaptured the love of GAF over the last 3-4 years is that their last launch was a pancake, they lost the leading position, and they were forced to get back to basics and build good will as a result.

I don't understand. At this stage, what else bad news could there be about XBone? The resolutiongate is already open. The OS issues rumor has been debunked by videos of actual running hardware. I really cannot imagine there would be something much worse than this...

This has nothing to do with console wars.

The evidence has been laid out before us so many times.

yes, and the success of Microsoft as well as Nintendo had definitive impact on their decisions with this console which will probably end up being for the better for everyone no matter where your loyalties lie (if you even partake in giving a shit about loyalty)

So cboat is a MS employee who worked on and perhaps led a particular group to do a concept for the next Xbox, perhaps the Yukon one. And now he is salty about it not getting chosen.

The logic here (or at least what my logic would be) is that they're showing they're willing to go down certain paths that if successful can spread like wildfire. Competition in this area IS good, but it may be better to kill off a source of bad ideas than keep it around "for competition." Nevermind Nintendo IS still around and has shown they know how to survive low periods and even rebound spectacularly (albeit usually with a new platform rather than mid-generation), Steam appears to be growing in dominance, and mobile and F2P PC are at least worth paying attention to whether or not they actually are all that relevant to console gaming (F2P PC seems to be at least given how many of those games are coming to PS4.)

It's like a Drama Queen convention this thread. You can physically taste the angsts about feck all but spurious rumours. The only good thing coming from this thread is the easy laughs I get from many of the posts.

Regarding this pm maybe people are still considering buying because of the games? Don't people buy systems for games they want to play?

Definitely.

The Xbox One has a solid launch line up (post launch as well) of exclusive games that look like a bunch of fun, as well as a slick looking OS with a ton of multitasking features. I also know a lot of people hate Kinect, but I think the new device looks pretty damn cool.

So all of this..."Microsoft is poison for the industry," and "I can't understand how anyone would want to buy this piece of crap console" is very ignorant to say the least. The console definitely has it's issues and it is undoubtedly underpowered, but that doesn't mean that I can't still have a blast with it. As far as all of these rumors go, we'll just have to wait and see if they ever come to fruition.

All I care about is if the hardware is good and has no problems, AND the games.

I've heard of rumors about what the XBO will be like at launch (overheating) and I am not sure if that's true and dismissed it, but regardless with such FUD I'm not buying an XBO anytime soon. The exclusive games did not interest me anyways.

I'm much more likely to buy a WiiU with SM3DL in a few years once it picks up on some exclusives.

Meanwhile, I'm getting a PS4 on launch but the lack of interesting software is depressing. I'm honestly only getting it for infamous but managed to snag a deal at launch so why not? First console launch so we will see how this goes.

I have faith in Sony, and console launches are always terrible for the most part I guess.

I wonder if this information whatever it may be is going to come out come launch? It seems so close now.
I hope that by december all cards are on the table.

It's sad that people are trying to persecute OP for sharing his info from CBOAT instead of persecuting Microsoft for hiding some (whatever it is) info from their customers. It boggles my mind how bent over some of Microsof'ts customers (not to call them more harshly) are.

CBOAT is right: if all those years Microsoft was showing their middle finger to core gamers by promoting Kinect weren't enough for you, if the April reveal wasn't enough for you, the DRM stunt they tried was not enough for you, all their later PR fuckups and bad news about X1's performance were not enough for you, you should be punished with anything Microsoft can bring upon you for chosing their [many vulgar words] product.

Jump ahead, we'll be standing aside, watching and enjoying the meltdowns. It's your money and your problem from now on. You have been warned.

Never thought I'd see nationalism/borderline-jingoism used as a reason for buying a videogame console.

Also, I hope you asked for CBOAT's permission in posting that PM, otherwise that's seriously not cool.
