Got my PS4 early -- thanks Amazon! -- but it doesn't actually work

I'm actually considering this. I wonder if I would get better results if I simply dealt with Amazon directly. I'll try tomorrow, I guess.

No, don't wait until tomorrow. They might be sold out soon. Have you been buying stuff on Amazon for long? The internet? LOL

I'm kidding, but seriously, you came to a message board to vent, get your shit sorted and move on.

I don't know whether to feel bad you're having issues with your PS4 or mock the fact that you're drinking beer out of a glass...namely that particular glass.

...

It's called a snifter, and it's an ideal choice of glassware for serving certain types of beers...

OT: Sorry to hear OP, I'd return the console to Amazon ASAP.

Do it on the website. It literally only takes one minute. I've done it before for broken items from them and they usually get out a new one next day or so.

For those who have expressed skepticism, I understand where you're coming from. I wouldn't want to believe it, either. For those who just want to know the truth, here's a pic of the PS4 in question, the laptop I'm posting on, and the beer I'm drinking to ease my pain.

I get that you're in the middle of all this, once again, did you actually try the fix from Kotaku?

You are experiencing the exact same thing they and a few others have, and that fix works.

Seriously OP, if you don't take some of the good advice here and check the HDMI pins and start the return process to Amazon, I'm going to think that you're an attention whore, a possible troll and maybe a bit dense.

Sorry, but this just seems asinine.

I just got home with my ps4 from work. Long night. When I plugged my HDMI cable in, I was very gentle with it.

Turn on the ps4 and to the right channel. It definitely took a full 10 seconds before the ps4 managed to show up on my tv. Longest 10 seconds of my life. I thought I got one of the lemon!

But nope! Everything is working great so far, just downloaded he update.

I hope yours will be fixed or replaced soon OP. My prayer is with you!

Quit it.

I'm trying to guess if the Noguchi is real or a knockoff, looks like the latter

Also sorry this is happening to you!

With my track record with electronics, I will undoubtably be joining you tomorrow for some drinks.

They explain the problem -- a piece of metal somehow got pushed up and the HDMI cable won't go in all the way -- but they don't really discuss a fix. They simply demonstrate that one PS4 works while the other one doesn't.

My HDMI cable is fairly snug, but I'm not sure if it's going in all the way (I can see a sliver of metal where the cable connects to the port, but not much).

he's probably doing that right now .. chill ..

So the Wii U had bricking if the day one update didn't finish installing and the PS4 has this issue. I wonder what goodies the Xbone will bring to the table.

Console launches, will we ever learn?

This must be how those student interns building the PS4 are getting their revenge.

Only kidding. Hope anyone with issues can get a simple and speedy fix

it sounds like the issue is the back angle design of the console. people are inserting the HDMI at an angle and are bending the metal or breaking teeth?

Contact Amazon. Get a replacement on the way while they have them in stock. Continue to try and fix the unit through the night. Ship out defective unit when you get your replacement.

Do this now before they are out of stock.

Same here my is definitely not flush with the back like no clicking in or anything. In fact I kept getting the two beeps at first too. Pulled it out and pushed in kind of hard didn't seem to go in any further but it's booted

I would look at the end of the HDMI cable that was in the PS4 and compare it to the one connected to your TV. If you can see one of the pins is damaged then that's the fix.

On the PS4, I would grab a good flashlight and find that pin, then bend it back with a really small flathead screwdriver or razorblade.

The fix is how Sony got it working again: They used used a pin to get thee HDMI connection in its proper position.

Pins get shifted about on all sorts of connections. If that is the issue then it should be a simple fix.

Just cancelled my Amazon UK preorder. If there are problems then I can't take the chance with an international orders I'm afraid. Will wait until December for official UAE launch instead.

Didn't someone say you can get it to go into recovery mode by removing the HDD and turing it on.

It boots and then you can put the HDD back in and reinstall the OS.

I though the first guys thread said something like that...

Hmmm. i wonder if that package they're using is shipping proof... This couldn't all be because of poor handling by shippers and a thin box could it?

Also sucks for the guys with broken PS4s, feel for ya. Hope this isn't very widespread.

It's more likely the HDMI cable is cheap and moving/bending the pins on the PS4.

People should be really careful when plugging in their HDMI's tonight/tomorrow/when you get your PS4.

Anyone else feel this could be a consequence of rushing to meet demand? Sony is still in a rocky place and big numbers would potentially appease...

So I would try to get a CS rep on chat and ask them what the ETA will be to send you a replacement. Could still be faster than Sony, but situation is obviously a little more complex now.

Honestly, the pins look fine to me. Here's a pic:

I also, for those of you who are about to wade into this, I actually got lazy and first used an HDMI cable that didn't come with the PS4. I figured it wouldn't make a difference and simply unplugged the cable from my PS3 (and, to be fair, it really shouldn't make a difference).
