The 3090 TI I bought was cheaper than the 3090 at the time...
That's great, man! Had no idea that was a possibility. Good for you! $200 over MSRP is still pretty good in this market.Sorry for the thread bump, but an update. So while in general I still overpaid for my card, the end price was much more reasonable and only a couple of hundred from what should be MSRP.
At this very moment, the card is now $200 cheaper than when I bought it. I called Best Buy and asked them if they could do a price adjustment*; being that my card was outside the return period by only a couple of days, the lady talked to her manager, and she still credited me with the $200 price adjustment differential. Success!
(*I didn't know that Best Buy even had a "price adjustment" policy until a buddy IRL told me; so if you buy a product from them and they lower the price of that item within the return period, you can get it price adjusted and they credit the difference back to the card you used to purchase the item with. Easy to do if your item is still within the return period; but if you're like me and you're "out of bounds" by even a couple of days, then your mileage may vary.)
...I think the 3090TI is the only GPU I would absolutely not recommend buying even at MSRP right now. I'm sure than in a few months for that price you'd be able to get twice the performance. The 3090 TI I bought was cheaper than the 3090 at the time...
To be honest at this point i would rather wait for RTX 4080/RX 7800XT RDNA 3.. They will probably be released in 5-6 months..
At this point, with NVidia's RTX 4000 and AMD's RX 7000 on the horizon, buying a RTX 3000 or RX 6000 GPU is pointless. Unless it's at a steep discount over MSRP.
It's better to just wait a while and get the newest tech, than pay a premium for 2 year old tech.
Not if you've been wating for 3+ years to upgrade
I'm still on GTX 1080, i skipped 2000 cards and wanted a 3000 card, now more stock is around and prices coming nearer MSRP, ill be getting my 3080 within next few months.
No way am i waiting for 4000 cards to come out to be snapped up by scalpers and push the price up again and increase demand again for 3000 cards.
If you have waited 3 years, you can very well wait a few months more.
No point in blowing a thousand bucks on GPU that will be obsolete in a few months.
The PC market is already shrinking, so demand will be lower in the next months.
Hopefully, scalping won't be as profitable in the upcoming months.
PC Shipments Begin to Slow Following Two Years of Strong Growth, According to IDC
3080s in my country are currently at £750-£850 and dropping.
A 3080 wouldn't be 'obsolete' for a least 5-10 years.
It would be foolish to think anyone who doesn't have an auto bot programme to purchase RTX 4000 cards would be able to get one on Day 1, they'll be snapped up and on eBay with a 40% mark up and would be at MSRP until 2024 at earliest.
I can wait a few more months, but that for RTX 3000 cards prices to drop more, not to wait for a RTX 4000 card.
I mean, is he wrong?!It's your money.
I mean, is he wrong?!
How many chance do people without an auto bot has to buy a 4000 series at launch?
People have work and a life, i can't wait in front of my computer with a countdown ready to buy the second these things are available...
Can you assure to the guy that he can casually buy a 4000 series from any site at a regular price without a problem during the launch period?
I want to wait aswell but what he says is not unrealistic at all.
Meanwhile in the real world:And you expect this market to continue as it is?
I don't have a crystal ball, but things are getting back to normal.
Production of chips is increasing. Market demand for PCs is dropping. Mining is falling.
We might see a GPU market close to normal, by the end of the year.
Meanwhile in the real world:
There is no 1060tiIt's all fine, I sold a 1060ti that I bought in Summer 2019 for a small profit (not as much as it could have been a few months ago, but I basically rented the thing for a few years for free).
It was used in an HTPC.
A store close to me has rtx 3060's and 3070's in stock, and they've been available for some time now.Meanwhile in the real world:

Might is the key word here, it depends on the willing of people to risk, but it's not a SURE thing. And you expect this market to continue as it is?

Next gen GPU's are expected to hit at far higher MSRPs and not disrupt the MSRPS of last gen GPUs too much outside of the secondhand market. At this point, with NVidia's RTX 4000 and AMD's RX 7000 on the horizon, buying a RTX 3000 or RX 6000 GPU is pointless. Hell you don't even have to wait until next gen, you can see it this very gen.Next gen GPU's are expected to hit at far higher MSRPs and not disrupt the MSRPS of last gen GPUs too much outside of the secondhand market.
I'm not buying another card until the 60 series. If all of Us could agree to not buy new GPU's before finishing our backlog, Jen Hsun and Lisa Su would be back to Us with their smiles, good deals, and comforting words (like "it's safe to upgrade now") within a year. Anyway, now that the hoarded gpu's were released by the duopoly and you can find them even in Cape Horn stores, normal pricing is imminent.
this generation of GPUs outside rtx 3080/6800 even at MSRP kinda suck. I definitely would wait for next gen to upgradeThe 6600 is now kind of tempting but even at MSRP it seems way overpriced for a console class gpu, it´s like paying for a 970 in the times of PS4 but only getting a 750ti inside the box lol... we are getting ripped off.
You only get to do the Price Match once. I bought a Odyssey G9 from them and the price dropped $400 a week after I bought it so I got that price match. 3 weeks later it dropped another $100, but I was told I couldn't get a second price match. I bought the same monitor again for the lower price and returned the first monitor. Stupid policy. I could understand if they price matched another company but not themselves.(*I didn't know that Best Buy even had a "price adjustment" policy until a buddy IRL told me; so if you buy a product from them and they lower the price of that item within the return period, you can get it price adjusted and they credit the difference back to the card you used to purchase the item with. Damn, you really wanted that 11% huh.Today I collected a 3090ti for msrp (£1879)
11 percent faster than my 3090 which I also bought for msrp (£1399)
I'm holding out. I've seen 3080s for $1300. I'm probably going to bite soon. I want to play Elden Ring so bad.Prices are getting near MSRP up north here in Canadaland. I guess new gen is soon to be unveil.
Haha yeah I finally bit to replay RE2, RE3, and Red Dead 2. It's awesome finally being able to put every single game I own on 1440p Ultra settings without a care in the world.I'm holding out. I've seen 3080s for $1300. I'm probably going to bite soon. I want to play Elden Ring so bad.

It's going to be awful. People will try for the 9AM launches and get squat, then spend weeks trying to catch a break. It may be worth it to buy now.I mean, is he wrong?!

To my surprise, Nvidia in EU did improve when it came to getting a 3090 TI Founders Edition this time, selling through a 3rd party site with a 1 per customer limit. They were available to hours before selling out. It's going to be awful. People will try for the 9AM launches and get squat, then spend weeks trying to catch a break. It may be worth it to buy now.
I play on my 1070, in 1080p around medium high. I wish I could play in 4K though but I'm not even sure 3090 is able to do this. It's not the GPU, it's the game.I'm holding out. I've seen 3080s for $1300. I'm probably going to bite soon. I want to play Elden Ring so bad.
If a 3090 is not able to play a current game at 4k resolution with a reasonable frame rate... Yeah, the game's optimization is highly questionable.I play on my 1070, in 1080p around medium high. i was watching some benchmark videos. it seems at high settings a 3090 can just barely get it. but it's not locked since there is still the stutters in the game.I play on my 1070, in 1080p around medium high. crypto bear market confirmed
Since I plan to purchase a 3070 TI once the 40X0 series is available (lol), I'll be happy if I can run it at 4K despite a few settings.i was watching some benchmark videos. it seems at high settings a 3090 can just barely get it. but it's not locked since there is still the stutters in the game.
Saw a 3070 benchmark and it can reach 4k 60 as well but with settings tweaked.
