Gravity Rush 2 coming to NA, Gravity Rush Remastered is digital only

They should do digital-only and free on PS+ day 1. That way, new players don't feel like they spent any money on something they might not like right away or potentially be disappointed by since it's an upscaled Vita game and not some cutting edge console release. They'll also be more likely to see it as a positive surprise instead of a mysterious, weird almost-anime thing with a female protagonist to be weary of and heavily scrutinized, and be more willing to actually try to get used to the controls/gameplay. Meanwhile everyone who owns a PS4 or covers Playstation in the media talks about it.

That would be good foundation for Gravity Rush 2 and also good for PS+ people who want Knack.

I've always believed that WWS (Shu) should be more empowered with some amount of marketing decision making.

Honestly, for Shu to make games, but then leave it up to marketing entirely on whims of localisation, release options, etc almost feels too hands-off.

Very true, they should definitely give Shu more sway over decisions abroad

That's a good point - he commissions games but they can be sent to die by local teams that he has no control over. But then, having all of that responsibility might be too much for one person to handle effectively.

! TSB RO LAISHP S'T TU ELIVSKH OT NRTE OT TIW TONA

I'll either play the Japanese version (which I can read, but the English translation is excellent and I'd prefer that) on Day One, or import from HK or the EU. The Praiseworthy has made every point I would have wanted to: with physical, we own our games, and that's what matters. I bought the Vita version digitally, and despite loving the game from beginning to end, still felt cheated because the option of selling it if I ever became hard up for money was taken away, plus I had to provide my own memory card space. Not cheap on the Vita, then or now.

Still, at least a physical version exists and the console it runs on is region free. There are bigger hoops to jump through. And we're getting what looks like an amazing sequel.

He shouldn't have all power anyway, absolute power corrupts (jk) and he's not always right.

But I think he should at least have the power to demand equal release platforms across all countries. Eg. If Japan/Europe is willing to release it retail, USA has no choice but to do it as well.

That is a terrible idea and is based on the flawed assumption that all markets have the same demands, constraints, and distribution systems.

Come on SCEA... If Europe can have a physical release for Gravity Rush Remastered, you can too!

I'd buy the collector's edition in a heartbeat.

Heck, at this point I'd be fine with a Gravity Rush 2 Collector's Edition that includes:
  • Gravity Rush 2 (Physical Disc)
  • Gravity Rush Remastered (Physical Disc)
  • That Awesome Kat Figma
  • Artbook Maybe?

I did my part though - tweeted out to all the people linked so far.

Physical release aside, y'all were on the yayo if you were thinking the Figma Edition was coming out here

If anything, they pop that for GR2

Another question about the Chinese Collector's Edition on PlayAsia - by English Subtitles, does that mean that they will only show during cutscenes? Or will all text/button prompts/menus in the game be English?

I may be willing to bite the bullet if worst comes to worst and that's the only way to get English + the Figma.

Has anyone done any sort of holistic analysis on why the NA branch of games seem to be so eager to just outright refuse to push physical copies anymore while EU and JP are more than happy to eat the cost of a physical version? I understand the cost-savings part of it but really that should be applied only towards small niche games such as certain JRPGs or strategy games.

However for 1st party titles and high-selling titles to be shoe-horned into a digital release only and ONLY the NA branch of the companies doing it just makes it seems strange.

EDIT: Also tweeted to the respective parties.

Usually? If I'm going to import, I want to be sure... What would you pin the % chance at?

98.5% :)

I can't guarantee anything of course, but Play-Asia calls everything "subtitles", and when they promote a game with english subs it's meant for the western audience that wants to import.

I would be very very surprised if there was some language mixing going on here, because there's really no reason for that. You can most likely select English or Chinese and that will apply to all of the text in the game.

And I probably should have looked at twitter before writing this but here you go :)

EDIT: About the LE

Thank you very much for this - in the case that the "English Subtitles" doesn't apply to menus like indicated, do you have any idea if it'd be possible to get a refund?

Here's hoping that the Chinese/English LE isn't priced too steeply...

Can somebody help me understand why not having a physical release of this game is such a big deal? Is it about the box art? Is it the resale value? Is it some principle thing that I will never understand?

Simple. I want to be able to play it even if PSN no longer exists.

All the other stuff is bonus.

Many people still value having a physical copy of a game (or anything really)over a digital copy. Yes, digital is more convenient, but some people like having that case on their shelf or among their other games to display.

- I want to own the game. Actually have it in my hands.
- I want to play it even when PSN goes down or if it ever goes down forever in the future.
- I don't want to wait a heck of a long time to download and install it like I do with most digital games.
- Never worried about if a company ever pulls a Konami and takes off the game off PSN and literally prevents me from downloading it from my library if I already own it. #fucKonami
- I also like collecting them.

There are many reasons why people like me prefer physical copies. Even if none of those reasons apply to you, there should ALWAYS be a choice for everyone.

I am seriously considering buying the Japanese version of the game now that the fact that it will have English subs has come to light. I did say some weeks ago that Gravity Rush: Remastered would've been a perfect Christmas game, so maybe I should go for it instead of waiting for February. Hmmmm.

Play-Asia are professional in my experience and since you have their statement right there I'm sure they'd make it right. But I really wouldn't worry about it!

Just to clarify, for now only the Asia release is supposed to have English text, the Japanese version might not.

And I bet SCEE won't use that beautiful cover

I'll take your word for it.

What are we expecting the JPY/USD price to be for the Regular and LE versions of the game on PlayAsia? I need to be ready in case I decide to jump on it, since quantities will likely be limited, right?

It IS an amazing cover. I hope other regions (I guess it's 'other REGION' because it's Europe only) use it too.

It seems the JP LE went for 13,000 Yen on amazon, which is ~$110
Play Asia likes to mark up LEs so I wouldn't be surprised if they sell it for $150, but it's hard to say.

The standard ASIA copy is already on the site for $43

Is there a remastered-specific thread? There's a bunch of new screens, not the best jpeg quality but good enough to make some more comparisons.

Bluepoint's cleaned up the worst of the high-contrast texture detail, creases still look a bit low-res. Higher-res foliage is illuminated more clearly and most obviously, there's a decent poly boost. Sid's arm/wrist could still do with fattening up and finger tips would look a lot better if smoothed over, odd that's been left the same. The less distinct zig-zag lighting contour on the hat's probably an unfortunate side-effect of the smoother model, not quite as stylish in a side by side comparison.

Bluepoint making great strides there.

Anyone know if Playasia ever made good on those collector's editions preorders?

Saw the awesome theme you get for preordering so I would really like to get the CE.

I've been refreshing everyday and I haven't seen it come up for order. When I saw this thread bump I thought maybe they were available.

Man, I can't wait for both of these. Gravity Rush was a unique little game and i would love to play them on the PS4. It doesn't even matter that the 1st one is digital only.

Can't wait for the sequel! Hopefully it's physical over here in Europe. I'm really thinking of getting a PS4 one day, and this game will seal the deal.

Yeah, I'm tempted too. Might give it a few weeks and see how my backlog is looking. Would like a PAL copy for consistency's sake, but I love GR and I'd like to play it sooner than February if I can.

It's totally lovely. I wish there was a bit more consistency within SCE where Andrew House (or Shu as it's a WWS production) could declare that box art must be used across regions, so we don't get another Ico situation. That being said, the art for the original release of Gravity Rush was gorgeous as well. Hopefully they realise that there are plenty of gamers in the West who appreciate different box art, and not simply 'head down/eyes up moody guy looking at the camera'.
