Gravity rush 2 is beautiful, but its very frustrating.

Yeah I'm still going strong but some of the decisions the dev made are unjustifiable IMO. The writing is great ss ever, I love the setting and characters, the flying mechanics and the new styles are great, but Fuuuuck these obnoxious side missions that contribute nothing to my enjoyment of the game.

Yeah I like the game a lot but the stealth levels are awful. Sure they're not that difficult but they're so trial and error that they're just not fun. I did all the side quests in the first game but I'm not so sure if I'll bother with them in this. The writing is fun... But a lot of those missions aren't.

Camera gets pretty shitty at times too. The part where you get Jupiter Form was a mess.

Thought it was just me but it's true. I love the game don't get me wrong but holy shit, lack of lock on and stealth are just bad game design.

I definitely don't have the same feeling as I did playing GR1 for the first time. This game isn't a let down but it's disappointing in some aspects.

I think I have to finish it to really see how I feel. I do love that the side quests and 'information' NPCs flesh out characters and lore.

Camera gets pretty shitty at times too. The part where you get Jupiter Form was a mess.

Just did that part last night and I was so frustrated when I found out it locks you to Jupiter Style for the whole mission. Like just give me Jupiter and let me decide how to finish the rest.
I'm half way done the game and it stills feels like a hand-holding tutorial.

I just don't feel...free, I guess.

Yes it was horrible. Someone decided, lets give you a new gravity power, then put you in the tightest and smallest of corridors to use it for the first time all while dealing with that games camera

I'm starting to wonder if the people complaining about the stealth missions ever played a PS2 game. They aren't that hard.

Stealth does not belong in this game. It's as simple as that, imo.

There's only one or two paths you can take, the alert system is horrible and breaks any type of immersion, and it completely ruins the flow of the game.
Like I can run by a guy, get the Alert to 3/4 full and then just hide behind anything and suddenly they can't see me?

Really? You just saw me run right by your face and now you have no idea I'm here?

Even though I am sad that some people are not enjoying the game, I'm happy this thread exists. Not that it will put me off from buying the game (most people in OT thread seem to be enamored with it) - I most certainly will, but all these complaints mean I will just stick to the main story and avoid the side missions unless I need upgrades to progress. This is how I play most open world games anyway (not the ocd type like many here) and my experience of GR2 should benefit if I take that approach.

Thank goodness.

The time you need to engage in conversations is after the
false credit roll, you're put back in Aludnior...remember when Kat sees the yellow Shining Girl? There are conversations on the map that say Shining Girl on them...the'yre scattered in several cities...you need to do them all in order to get the last story missions.Other than that, no mandatory conversations

Also another thing that kind of annoys me... When you switch mining sites you either have to wait for the ship to move, or you can just hit skip, then you have to go onto the lift.
... Like, I guess they did it for a realism aspect, but I'd rather just get on the lift and choose which mining site I want to go to in order to expedite things...

Yes and they werent fun in ps2 non stealth games either, simple point is this isnt a stealth game, its a gravity rush game.

They don't give you any indication of where to go, and if you stray an inch off the unmarked path a guard insta alerts and you are sent back to the last checkpoint because the guards don't have like, sight cones or stealth mechanics.

It's not hard, it's annoying ass until you figure out exactly which unmarked path the devs want you to take.

The problem is that there are a lot of good side missions. Just...bail on any that have you sneaking anywhere or walking dogs, lol. :P

If you like Kat as a character I would still try to do the side quests. They're kinda funny and Kat shines there as usual.

Problem is that a lot of stealth missions don't let you use your powers, and that's bad in a game where the core gameplay is the powers. Also, some stealths missions are actually "find the correct way" instead of being open ended. They're not very well done and don't serve much purpose to GR2 gameplay. It's an odd adition.

I hated the stealth missions too. I hate when a game feels the need to cram in something the game clearly wasn't designed around.

I do think Gravity Rush 2 is the better overall game though.

I thought this was going to be about no lock-on function in combat. Personally I cant say I felt the game was riddled with stealth missions and I even did all of the side missions.

I dont have anything better to add, but:

Yes, that does sound like a sequel to Gravity Rush, allright.

The first game had some of the most pedestrian and by the numbers game design I've seen from a first party title in the last couple of years. (Incredibly unimaginative mission design, poor combat etc.)

Agreed, and sad to see it hasn't changed in the sequel. Still might pick it up when it's cheap for the graphics.

I think most missions are tedious (tailing, stealth, throwing stuff) but they aren't difficult and the writing is usally pretty good. But yeah, I'm past half the game I guess and I'm starting to feel tired of all this.

Agree

GiantBomb? This game is far from boring , what make it boring is GiantBomb.

I think they're deliberately garbage out of disinterest.
Like I occasionally saw clips of Jeff back in his Gamespot days just sort of doing badly at a game and eventually shaking his head either at the game or the camera, sometimes before dropping the controller.

Hahaha, oh man.

Gotta love it when an entire outlet gets discredited just because they don't love a game as much as you do.

Yeah, opinions about a particular game never get a thread

Just bugs me when people think their opinions deserve a separate thread, when the topic is already being discussed ad nauseum in the OT. I suspect the person just feels his complaint wouldn't get the attention he wants in the OT, so he makes a separate thread out of it.

Tbh, it probably wouldn't bug me if it were a hugely popular game, but the fact that it's an underdog title like GR2, which won't sell well, and this will be the end of the franchise, and we'll likely never see another game like it... it just bothers me to see people go out of their way to focus on the negative. Not that everyone has to be as relentlessly cheerful about the game as Kat is...

And btw, side missions are are optional. No one is forcing you to do side missions. If you don't like them, quit them. Not all that complicated.

The sequel improve a lot in the mission design side and combat is much better. You can argue that some of the missions may not work very well, but they are way more varied all around.

And that's a fact.

And yes, stealth missions are one of the few that dosn't work very well. But on a 30h+ game they are a relative small part.

That's a weird thing to think, considering there is improvements in GR2 compared in 1, a third entry could get best of both worlds and be the best Gravity Rush game.

Not that I think we will ever get a GR3. Franchise is dead, I fear.
They said 2 is the end.

Personally I was all in with Gravity Rush 2 because I really enjoyed remastered, and I too also really love the bright colors and pretty art style but I ended up canceling my pre-order before it released because I heard about similar frustrations. I will maybe play it one day but it sounds pretty disappointing in many aspects.

The game has flaws and it should be OK to talk about them, it doesn't matter how niche the game might be. That doesn't excuse some of the bad game design. No one is forcing me to play the side quests but they are there and while they are there they have every right to be criticized, good or bad.

This game will be on my top 5 GOTY but that doesn't mean it doesn't have flaws.

At the end of the day, it's a much better version of the first game in several aspects. I can complain all I want, but the game is still amazing nonetheless imo

Pretty much this. Thought it'd be worse tbh

Combat was never poor, not even in the first game.

You're definitely one of those people who spammed gravity kicks endlessly. Can't blame the game for how badly someone plays it (same with the GiantBomb quicklook).

I loved it during the first few missions, but towards the end I just wanted it to be over. Every mission seemed to be about 20 minutes too long and I found myself fighting the camera more than the Navi.

Almost fell asleep during the quicklook.

Playing the game almost puts me to sleep... Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it. I agree with most of what the OP. Some really odd ball choices... I'v been skipping the side mission dialogue.(too much pointless chatter) So that helps.

Oh, come on. I hardly said the game was flawless and shouldn't be criticized.

Obviously, people have the right to create threads about whatever they want, including griping about optional side missions. But I've got the right to express my annoyance with it, too. Seems attention-seeking to me. "My opinion won't get the attention it deserves if I post it in the OT like everyone else. My opinion is special and worthy of a separate thread." (exaggerating for effect here, but that's kind of how it comes across to me, sometimes)

Amusingly, one of my biggest problems with the game is that all the big fights in the last half of the game take place in midair, leaving you no options but to spam gravity kick. I want to be able to use ground combat and sliding and all of Kat's other moves, but they're useless. Spamming gravity kicks seems to be the intention, and that sucks.

Nah.

"Spam square for kicks" doesn't make for a good, let alone a passable, combat system. There is really isn't much depth to the combat at all..

GR's combat was absolutely poor.
As was the whole game.

This is ridiculous. So I kinda got over the horrible stealth missions but some of the side quests are just ridiculously frustrating. The one where you have to protect a store owners reputation is damn near impossible. Also, any challenge that has a time limit......forget it. I wanna quit.

Use the red crystals to use your super attack in Lunar mode when necessary, actually move to the other buildings and use the boxes there, use talismans that let you pick up more items with your stasis field if you haven't upgraded that yet.

It's definitely a flawed gem. I don't think I've ever played a game that alternated between amazing and frustrating as much as this one, and it could happen within the same mission.

The game is definitely at its best when you are just roaming around collecting gems or during the game's story moments. Lunar style is amazing. I would be cool if some game straight up ripped off lunar style mechanics.

Kat is definitely one of my favorite protagonists in a game and it's a wonderful world to explore.

I'd really like them to make an anime series starring Kat and Raven.

I just started playing this (about to start story mission 7) and it seems like they put a bit too much filler in it, the sidequests are super fetch-y, and the stealth/stalking sections are awful, like most stealth in games. Also seemed like it was a bit slow to start compared to the first game.

Its sad that i liked 1 way more.
2 tried to be too ambitious and the team honestly didn't know what to do with the money they got.
The world was fucking amazing but the gameplay mechanics are trash. Camera and lock om is a mess. Difficulty balance is broken. The upgrades feel minor and require a fuckton of gathering that basically feel like a chore 2 hours in. And dont even get me started on the mission design. 90% of it was total ass. Every second mission felt like it had stealth....in a damn hame about flying. And the remaining ones are ruined by bad targeting

I'm only 30% in but I think it will be my GOTY. One of the most beautiful games on PS4, too. One area in particular.

Controls can still be frustrating, as is the camera. But those have to be forgiven because the game has such an insane concept and scale.

The soundtrack and visuals are just mesmerising at times.

I have no issues with the stealth as you can still take guards out, it doesn't stop when they spot you. So it isn't that frustrating?

I honestly think those wishing Bioshock Infinite was a real game world rather than a series of very open corridors should check this game out. It is amazing what they achieved.

This game is also the best open world superhero game, bar none.

Playing on Pro so no performance issues.

You know, people here complain about there being a ton of stealth, but in actuality I think they only accounted for at most 10% of the game's missions, story and side included.
