Gravity Rush (Vita) review thread

Can't wait for this game, seems really cool, and the animation from Kat when she's floating through the air is just awesome.

I'm pretty sure GR will be handheld GOTY
A charming, perhaps underrated 7/8 out 10 game will always best an overrated 9/10 out of 10 for me. The latter often a result of marketing $

Does anyone know if the US peeps who download the game from PSN will get the DLC free? I'm 99% sure I read that EU people who download from PSN, for a limited time, will get the DLC free but I can't find anything for the US.

Oh? Where did you read this?

Does the DLC come free with amazon physical purchases also?

Hopefully this is a legit source, if not my bad!

And yeah, Amazon physical release is definitely getting the DLC for free if preordered.

Don't be silly! Of course that's legit.

Update: As many people asked in the comments, we’d like to clarify that this DLC will be available, at no extra cost, to those people who purchase the game from PlayStation Store for a limited time after launch.

I hope that's true for US customers as well.

Really? I love it.

The image of Kat, and uhh cat, standing sideways on the building, gazing out towards the city vista is such a striking image, and superbly evocative of the game's central concept of gravity-defying action. The UK one looks like she's been propelled into the stratosphere by an explosion or something.

I like how everyone appears to agree that Kat is a great heroine

That + It's a game that is actually trying something new and interesting, is why I'm really looking forward to it

I have a feeling this is going to be big next-gen. Buy digital and get a bunch of bonuses so you don't have a copy to trade back into retailers. Pre-order bonus wars will get interesting.

Can't say I like the UK cover much, would have preferred the US one.
But then I won't be staring at the cover much anyway, lol.

I'd be happy to take the UK cover's art in wallpaper form, not on the box itself. It's such a mess :(

Now, give me a bundle Sony so I can finally buy the darn thing as well.

Haha, I guess I'm letting my paranoia get to me :P But I hope it's true for US too!

Yeah, I think this kind of stuff is especially important if we're going to move forward to a digital-only or digital-physical hybrid future. I personally plan to go digital with this game just because it's just large to fill up the remaining space on my 8GB and I chose Disgaea 3 to be my first, and hopefully only, physical card. I'll feel a little bummed if we don't get the DLC free for at least a short period after release.

Why's that? I like it a lot.

It's more the fact that the normal boxart is so amazing, and it's plain wrong not to use it.

The full image is even better.

Farting when there is no gravity is risky business

Just sayin

At least the UK cover doesn't have a HUGE blue circle on it saying something like "CONTROL GRAVITY TO EXPLORE THE WORLD", like they would do if it was a PS3 release.

A good game but i was disappointed by how underwhelming the final product was to me.

The biggest problem is the design. You have this open world with nothing to do at all. The world is a stage to do three things: trigger missions (fun), trigger challenges (also fun), and collect purple diamonds (did not find fun).
Nothing to do expect missions, challenges, collectables and exploration...

I don't get the Sterling hate sometimes. I've almost always disagreed with his reviews, but for god's sakes the guy obviously plays through the freaking games and delivers his actual impressions, and I'm not sure that can be said about most actual review sites.

Nope. There have been several occasions where Jim refused to finish a game because he didn't like it.
That being said, I don't really have anything against him. His reviews often give a refreshing perspective on games that may have been ignored or hyped too much.

EDIT: I should also point out that whenever he doesn't finish a game, he says so in the review. So I guess it's a different situation then the bolded is implying.

Having played an import version, the game was destined for mixed reviews. It has a niche quality that some will love & others will never appreciate the finer elements of it -- Jim Sterling.

This. Honestly these type of games are the best IMO.

D-Toid really need to bring back second opinion reviews back. I respect Jim's opinion but I would like to know Dale's or Holm's views on some of the games Jim reviews. Kid Icarus and Gravity Daze being some games.

I read IGN's review, and while I understand where they're coming from on the complaints against the game's combat, I don't know... I love having to whip around through the air, trying to get myself into a good position for attack, and having the potential to whiff. If the game had, say, lock-on, I could see it easily killing the experiencing of flying and of having actual control over that flight.

Maybe it's like the argument of recent Sonic games and the lock-on system those games have. Some people find it nice to have combat be easier, while other people think it's a stupid-ass idea.

There was very rarely that I felt like battles in Gravity Rush were annoying because of the way the game's combat works, and as even IGN says, the game provides you with an ability that can help compensate for that.

This. A lot of people I know tend to get aggravated easily at combat in games unless it holds their hand, so to speak. I have nothing against Greg, in fact I usually have the same opinion with him but everything I've seen and played from Gravity Rush has me super excited. Most of the reviews are 8+ and I think that speaks for itself. It's an extremely unique and brilliant experience from what I've seen and played so far so... I can't wait to have it on my Vita :)

Honestly I thought Jim was going to rip the game apart. A 6.5 from him is a sign of a pretty good game in my view. And he tends to give portable games lower scores.

Jim Sterling? hahahahaha, oh man, nice one!

Clearly I haven't been reading the site long enough. I'll take your words for it. I still find the approach of most of the Dtoid blog reviews to be more along the lines of the info I want out of a review though.
