I was going for a non-literal presentation of the title, like 'the line in the sand'(or ground). The protaganists are being pursued by an unseen force, and, in part because the boy wants to, and partly because he no longer has a choice, he's drawn the line in that place, at that time.
It wasn't in my original pencil/paper sketch, but I figured this question might come up, so I created a literal line and put it into the final version. I probably should have said all this when I posted the image in the first place.
I hope we see some more entries before the deadline. There's a lot of good stuff now, but I always like to see other people's interpretations.

The beautiful pastel colors and the beautiful detail everywhere is just astounding. It gives me a really comforting and happy feeling. The thing I love the most is probably the sinking pirate ship. Lovely piece.
2. DumbNameD
By far the weirdest piece in the contest. A child hanging from a hook, dead, really? Yeah probably. I love how you interpreted the subject and it's an almost professional piece. Great work.

my name is ed - This is a great concept, but I think it would've worked better if mf doom was in a more active pose. He feels really static, which is odd given the fluid motion of the weapon.

This was my idea for the submission. I always liked the idea of kite flying (something about being able to hold onto something closer to the heavens, or the contrast between ground and sky), speeding past the landscape of a darkening horizon, and being able to draw my characters. XD (Sagittarius, the horse, has been around for about a decade, but I've only drawn him maybe.. twice, and still haven't gotten his design down yet!)
I threw colours onto a scrap I drew a few weeks ago right now just to show you what I was planning, but... my real submission might have looked a bit better! Maybe. I kind of like how this looks though. So you guys might see the "better" version in the art thread some day. XD

There is something very psychologically disturbing about this (like she is being unraveled) that I think it would make a great poster in a therapist's office.

1. Manabanana Nice simple concept and very well executed. Yours caught my eye right away. Thanks for the feedback too, I didn't have time to improve it more due to some deadlines.
2. Human_Shield Very cool concept. Even though the concept is very clear, it can be taken several ways. Point of view is pretty nice too.
