Great games that have been ruined by horrible load times?

OkamiNTSCcoverFinal.jpg

At least they had the minigame to keep you from going batshit nuts, though

Motorstorm is odd. The load times for tracks are fine. And races can be restarted without any loading time (or stops in the music, etc.). It's just that loading during vehicle selection takes a bit of time. Not a lot of time. But it's an odd place to have to wait for something to load and it makes it annoying.

Actually, this doesn't bother me. I ussually know which vehicle I want and can select it pretty fast. But, I see why this bothers other people.

I remember loading during character selection as well as during item/accessory selection on the PS1. But, its a bit unexpected for a PS3 game.

I figured this thread was about Motorstorm

Huh? I can't even remember any load times from that game, and I played through it a few weeks ago... Isn't encounters and stuff pretty much instantaneous? :S

Suikoden V on the other hand... that gives me nightmares. Still need to finish it...

Ultima 6 for the Amiga 500.
4 disks, only had 2 drives, the content on the disks didn't help reduce the amount of swapping.

They weren't so much long as they were incredibly frequent.

I could rack up 70 fangs in two hours just playing the paw minigames.

This thread is going to contain a bunch of games that I'll scribble down in the black book of 'do not play'

... and probably a painful number that I've already played through

I _hate_ load times. They may not be my absolute #1 gaming hatred, but they are wayyyyyyyy up there (not quite ads-in-gaming or gamespy level, but you know... high)

when this released I didn't have a powerful enough PC to play this so I decided to buy the Xbox version.

to my surprise it took almost 30 minutes to load; I never got to experience this 'masterpiece'.

End thread. It took nearly 2 minutes for the initial load and every few minutes another 30 second one.

The load times everytime you left an area killed me. It seemed sometimes you'd walk for 10 seconds and then wait another 5 for it to load. Repeat x 10 for anytime you want to run to another place.
Couldn't finish playing it because of that, totally sucked me out of the experience.

FF6 on the Playstation.

I entered this thread to post this. Good lord, talk about downgrade total.

With the frequency of random encounters and the associated loading times, you'd want to rip your eyeballs out. The game makes you want to run from battle more often, gimping you later in the game.

Edit: I'd say Killer 7 was an awful loading time contender, but the game was so impossibly perfect otherwise that I could tolerate it. FF6 had to live up to the SNES game.

Half Life 2

I wouldn't say ruined, but it did interupt the flow of the game. I still loved the game but i sometimes wished as i was going from one area to the next that i wouldn't be going into another loading screen because i was having so much fun.

The loading was a pain in Okami, yes. I never really cared about load times in general though. Excessive/pointless/unskippable cutscenes when I want to play a game are what I can't stand.

What was a bitch was the Saturn and Dreamcast ports of KOF games. They used redbook audio, but the game had to load when a new fighter joined the match. You either had to play team mode and constantly have the music restart, or play single mode and enjoy the awesome music, but missing lots of the fun.

The extra second it takes to load animations and stuff is so annoying. This needs a DS port in the worst way.

It's already on the PSP with no loading. :P

Xenosaga Episode II was hurt a lot by loading times.

The load times in Steambot Chronicles got to be a little much by the end of the game. Entering/exiting a town was particularly bad.

The FF re-releases on the PS1 were bogged down badly by slow down. That count as load times?

Also the new Sonic's load times really ruined that game, made it pretty much unplayable. I mean how do they release a game like that? Were they all wearing money hats?

Loaded for PSX and the Samurai Shodown 1&2 import

How was that game? I only remember 1 review of the Fencing Pack in all my time on the net.

The loadtimes in Dead Rising totally killed the game for me. It was a bit excessive, I've got a HDD on my system ****ing use it.

Seriously. I liked it a lot, but I've never finished it, just because of the goddamn loading every time I fight someone.

Motorstorm kills me. I was wondering if there was a way you could install it to the HDD. But I guess I was wrong. It's sad when it takes so damn long for the new vehicles to pop up.

It's just the first two games with some extras like BGM and a couple pictures of each character. It was good to have at the time (despite load times of literally 15 seconds between matches) if you didn't have the Neo Geo versions because it was the only one that was "arcade perfect". Now with Virtual Console and PSN, they'll show up again.

Motorstorm? I really want to spend more time with it but the load times even on car selection are pretty bad. I'll go back to it when I have more time. Farcry on the PC had pretty bad loading times too. It just took forever to start playing a level.

Morrowind for XBOX was pretty much unplayable for me due to the load times. Any PC game made by Origin is up there also, but I was still able to enjoy them.

Only game I've put down because of craptastic loadtimes.

Oh and the Quake 2 port for X360 (that's included with Quake 4) takes about 30 seconds to load a level.... I don't get it.

I'm okay with the initial load times for PGR3 but the reloads take too damn long. Almost every other racer has instant reloads so it must have been something that was overlooked by the PGR3 team.

The Crash sections were ruined by the horrible decision to slowly zoom back to the beginning, instead of instantly doing it. This was fixed in the 360 version, I hear.

Also,

This game would have been a LOT more enjoyable if the loading times didn't suck so much, it was a drag because of it.

Final Fantasy XII drove me nuts with the menu-changing load times. Urggh, I just want to look at my Clan Primer, damn it!

At least with PS2 games and the right version of PS2, there's a way for you to fix the load time. You could always get a HD loader and plug in an old Harddisk, and it will work for most games. I know I bought my second PS2 just for BH Online, which has harddisk support.

For next gen games, I think we have approached the point that, even with HD support, we are still getting substantial load times due to the among of data that need to be loaded. Come on, HD manufacturers, we don't need bigger HDs, we need much faster ones!

Loading on Sonic 360 literally KILLED the game. I mean, it had many other problems too, but the loading time was the #1 issue for me. I will never know if there was a great game underneath, as I didn't play for more than a couple hours.

This game was killed by a number of technical and gameplay issues, with load times being one of them (and I have beaten it, an achievement in itself :lol ). Regardless of how some felt about the story stuff, I always thought this game would have at least been okay/above average if they delayed both versions to really polish it.

GCN, which is seems sounds like a blessing in comparison. However, I expect more from games on Nintendo consoles given how they themselves have always had load times pretty minimized.

Midnight Club for the PSP. As a game it was amazing. Graphics were top notch and the races were insane... however 2 or 3 minutes of load time on a portable system is deadly...

WTF? I am going to buy that version tomorrow. Is there something I should know?

I have it, and I have no issues.

The one crash game that came out on PS2. It was fun, but goodness. The damn loading times were terrible. You could take a shower come back, and still see the thing loading.
