Great Teacher Onizuka (LTTP)

So I finally started GTO after putting it off for a long time. Ever since I got into anime people would always tell me how great the series is and guess what...it's amazing. Im on episode 16 and I can safely say this series is one of my favorites already. I haven't seen an anime that had this many emotional punches in quite awhile. From the comedy, the music, and of course Onizuka whose such a badass character. Honestly didn't know what to expect going into the series but damn it has been a fun ride so far.

dub or sub? I want to check out this series eventually.

The dub is something else. Three people voice like 30 characters. The main characters are done very well, the extras and minor characters though...

I love it, but its rough in places.

I really recommend the live action drama. It's hilarious. I believe that the anime Onizuka design was inspired by the actor who played him.

I agree on the lack of closure but the ending isn't terrible. It just pales to the manga ending which is seriously my favorite ending to anything ever.

I remember when the manga was being published here via Tokyopop and there was an unusually long gap between volumes 24 and 25. Got 25 in at work and couldn't wait to read it, and I'm with orochi up there, it's not really an ending.

It allowed for the sequel stories to happen, at least.

What I liked most about GTO is that it made me discover the awesome manga. Speaking of the spin offs, do Shonan 14 days becomes something other than an rehash of the main series? Is GTR any good?

There's a sequel!?

I know there's GTO The Early Years, GTO 14 Days...

GTO: Paradise Lost. Started in April last year. It's on Crunchyroll.

The next stage for Eikichi Onizuka: Kissho Academy’s Class G, a newly-established class for young celebrities. But as Onizuka soon finds out, his new teaching assignment is no superstar paradise—it's a super problem class, feared by all!

I have every volume of the manga, bought it was it was released a few years ago, and I'm about a third into the anime series still at the moment.

Probably one of the greatest series ever to come out of Japan. We definitely need more anime like this to balance out the moe stuff.

Agreed.

BTW loved how their was a
wild arms reference
in the one of the early episodes. Haven't seen a video game reference where I didn't cringe in a long time.

Read volume one and thought it was amazing! I haven't read the rest yet as I'm piecing together all the manga and they're quite tricky to find. Everywhere I see them, they're quite expensive.

i remember watching the live-action version through winamp's video streaming thing years and years ago and enjoying it. anyone else seen it? i guess there's a couple live-action versions actually?
maybe i should give the anime or manga a try.

Awesome anime. I remember binge watching through it years ago and then going on to watch the Japanese drama, which is also quite good though tonally a bit different.

The dub is also great with Steve Blum as Onizuka and Wendee Lee as Fuyutsuki.

Yeah, the drama is awesome.

I've never read the manga, but the anime is one of my favorites of all time.

I thought the dubbing was fine for a majority of the cast. I have no complaints.

I can never not associate them with their other roles. They were EVERYWHERE during the anime boom. Plus the sub has the voice Usagi and Misato Katsuragi voicing a yandere. How can you not love that? The Japanese cast overall was great actually.

My favourite badass Onizuka anime moment is without a doubt when Urumi is resigned to fall off the building when Onizuka bumps into her, then the trumpets start playing and Onizuka comes sprinting down vertically while yelling and catches her midair. At that moment I thought woah, this teacher is badass to the max. The other time when he found a WWII bomb was just too slapstick to take it as a badass moment, as with most of the manga arcs after the anime stopped. Shit was getting cray at some point.

Is this is the correct reading order for all of the exploits of Onizuka?

Bad Company
Shonan Junai Gumi
GTO
GTO 14 Days
GTO Paradise Lost

Out of those, I only read GTO. Totally behind on this.
