My vote is for Scar.

Without doubt the baddest, meanest of all Disney villains. Jeremy Irons did an absolutely spectacular job voicing the character.

Terrifying as a kid.

Figure this is as good a place as any. I'm watching Aladdin on television right now. Good lord this film looks absolutely gorgeous in HD, especially the beginning portion right outside the Cave of Wonders. The sand, the stars, the lighting, everything. Everything looks so crisp and clean.

Sorry for going off-topic, OP, but I just had to express my incredulity somewhere. :)

No Disney villain was never as successfully evil as Scar.

Yeah, there's no real debate. Scar is king.
Because he killed the last king... his own brother... and made the wife his bitch.

I haven't seen The Lion King since it first came out on VHS (over fifteen years ago, wow). Looking forward to watching it again when the Blu-ray comes out in a couple of months.

Scar is good but it's so blatantly Shakespeare with Lions, it kinda disqualifies it for me.

Great movie, but yeah - points for originality.

Norwood Gills from the 1995 TV-movie version of The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes starring Kirk Cameron, obviously.

Okay, final and third vote, completely out of tone with the rest of the thread:

Maleficent

Yeah, the op choice is good too.
I still can't get over how awesome the blu-ray transfer of Sleeping Beauty is.

Okay? Doesn't take away from the performances.

All of Disney's villains are pretty awesome, but the only one I was actually afraid of as a child was this guy.

um, just about every 2D disney animated movie is based off of a story, tale, fable, book, play, etc.

The only one I can think of which isn't is Lilo and Stitch.
