Greatest Hits games - yea or nay?

If your mostly out to play the game, Greatest Hits will do just fine. As a collector, i dont think i know any collector who likes Greatest Hits releases when it comes to newer games (like Playstation and up). I like the old "NES classics" series thats re-release of old games tho :)

I can see myself buying a Greatest Hits game tho, it doesnt bother me that much eventho i'm a collector, but i strongly prefer the first release, even if it means paying alittle extra.

When a game goes Greatest Hits, I'll just buy a used copy from Gamestop for $17.99. Also, I don't buy games that have gone GH on Ebay unless they specifically say they're non-GH or they have a picture. It's just one of the little quirks I allow myself. :)

No. Normaly I buy a game as soon as its out. There are of course games that I miss, but most of the time I already have it by the time it goes greatest hits. I wouldn't not buy it if that was all I could find, but I would go out of my way to get one without the stripe.

I like boxart SO SUE ME! :lol

I actually DO have 1 or 2 GH PS2 games, but those where gifts.

Usually I wait until a game goes Greatest Hits, then immediately run out and purchase the original version before the new packaging hits store shelves.

I also have this problem of keeping all my games in their original plastic wrapping.

So that the cases... stay new forever.

Give me ZoE 2 as a gift, k?

I'll never understand not buying something because of what the box looks like...

That said, my PS1 and PS2 collections are actually mostly GH stuff, so the non-GH stuff is what ends up looking out of place.

Aye, cheap entertain is always nice. Who cares about the box anyways as most of the time you only see the side of it anyways!

Only a year ago, I would have scoffed at Greatest Hits/Platinum/Best covers, but that was before I sold off most of my game collection and stopped giving a damn what was on the cover.

Silent Hill 2 Greatest Hits has the "Born from a Wish" Maria scenerio.

I don't understand? Does a GH game play differently?

no, you're just aren't paying attention.

it's all about aesthetics. which is sorta odd, but i personally don't let it get in my way when it comes to GH.PE versions that offer more content. 3 examples, Midnight Club: Dub Edition Remix for the Xbox, Silent Hill 2: Greatest Hits for ps2 (with Maria scenerio), Fable: The Lost Chapters.

What is not to like, cheap, easily avalible editions of games you may have missed out on.

I throw the boxes away on anything I keep long term anyway. I don't collect anything in that manner anymore, and if I did the last thing it would be is video games.

Can't imagine how big of a fruit you'd have to be to pitch a fit over a stripe on a video game box, to be honest.
i don't know where to put my opinion so ill build off of this. id rather have the non gh box, but if some rare game i haven't played (like suikoden 2) came out tomorrow in gh i would buy it without any hesitation. as some people have shown, collections with all originally pressed games look pretty sweet.

i also think collecting video games is more practical than dvds/comics/coins/etc since games are something you can always mess around with/get back into and are pretty expensive as well when you think about it.

also, its not like stores just switch the original and gh boxes in and out. you pretty much know what you're getting when you buy, thus i don't think anyone is pitching a fit as you say.

im pretty sure thats all there is to it.

I will never understand people who refuse the buy a Player's Choice (Greatest Hits/Platinum Titles. I will use PC term since it came long before the other two as far as video games are concerned) just because the box looks different. While some do look ugly (Platinum Hits, and PC titles in Europe), it still doesn't matter. You are buying the game, not the obx. If you don't want the PC box, then buy the damn game in the 8+ months it's out before become a PC/GH game.

A year ago I wouldn't have cared. But I've become a collector now, and I don't buy GH versions.

While I don't plan to ever sell any of my games. The GH versions aren't worth anything on the market. Whereas original release versions go for quite a bit. No collector wants a GH, that's just all there is to it.

I'm happy the scheme exists though of course. More people get to play great games. And they drive up the value of the original versions ;).

I hardly ever see GH copies of Silent Hill 2. All the Gamestops around here have two or three copies of the original version, but it's been a long time since I've seen a GH version. Just so you don't think I'm so anal that I would intentionally forgo extra content for the sake of not owning a GH title, I've owned Silent Hill 2 sense it came out and just never picked up the revised version.

Just picked up SotC "greatest hits" version today for under $20 for a new disc and a great game at a sick price. Anyways, I prefer new vs used. I'd rather give some of my money to the devs than purely to the Gamestops and the EBs. I don't have a problem with the PS2 red packaging...but that Kameo one is absolutely butt, and what's the whole deal with the "classics" any ways. All I can think of to respond to that is boooooooo.

Anyone else a little more hesitant to throw money at DLC after PS3 1.8's emulation update? For 10-15 dollars more, I could get a complete and solid PS2 title I missed, rather than spend 10 on a short game snack. I know my lack of completing some solid PS2 titles is going to put me off a while for buying CAC...ehh maybe I'll give in.

Buy GH Games!!!! so they continue releasing them and so I can afford them....... Can't wait for God of War 2 GH

Yeah, I despise them. They make the boxes so insanely ugly. I pay decent money for games so I like to have a good-looking box. I too wait for pricedrops and then go and find a non-GH box.

The different coloured spine makes them look like crap amongst all my other games on the shelf so I tend to put them away somewhere else. I like it when all the spines of the games match up. Just looks nice.
