GRID track list and car list

i will buy it if they've fixed the handling, and when it becomes available in the bargain bins in a month's time after release.
you will most likely be able to tune your handling.

I think this will be the first non-Burnout racing game I buy in years. It's just a lot of fun to play.

it is... its fucking amazing. The sound design is simply phenomenal... seriously, anyone who has played this game on a surround sound setup and disagrees this is crazy. The audio is like liquid magic and the graphics, geez when people stated next gen back in the day, this is what I imagined.

Nein. Das bist arcade race cars jawohl, so you can't tune them either. IIRC.
Yes, I'm speaking broken German for some reason.
thats weird, you could tune them in DiRT

50 tracks, 15 locations, get it right, 50 cars too, so im guessing 7 secret ones/made up ones (DiRT had a car designed by colin mcrea etc)

about the same amount of cars you ever used in a GT or forza game :lol

you shouldn't count different layouts as extra tracks. short courses and reverses are not extra tracks, they are just variations. but i give you the 7 extra cars, ok.

and so you think people only use the top end high performance cars in a racing game, or this was just a cheap shot?

I don't see any problem with "only" having 43 cars. Isn't it better to have a moderate amount of cars, but actually want to drive them all? I don't understand wanting 100 cars in a game, but I'm not a big car nut, so perhaps that's what I'm missing.

Its about choice, and you don't have much in this game. When you have games like Forza 2 with about 310 cars and GT4 at about 700-750 and the upcoming GT5 likely to exceed GT4's car list you have incredible choices in the cars that you use.

43 cars is plenty of choice. Is it overkill of choice like other racers? No, but 43 cars? More than enough.

For you maybe, but some of us like having a ton of cars to choose from.

"most other racers"? As in GT and Forza? :lol

Most racers give you a pretty good selection of cars, stop being narrow minded people like having choices and the more choices the better. And somehow I don't think you would be complaining about Grid having to many cars if they announced 200 or even more.

50 cars isn't a good selection? And no, I wouldn't complain if it had 200. If I am content with 50 cars, why would 200 bother me? Your logic fails. I like GT and I am happy to use as many of the billion cars in it I can. But at the same time I know 50 cars in a different game can be enough.

My logic fails. :lol

So 200 doesn't bother you then? Then why did you make this statement?

So other racers are overkill but sometimes not or something? Please clarify, what in you're mind defines to little or to many? Not that you're or mine opinion really matter at all, but I'd like to know! :lol

Do you honestly think GT5 will have more than 750 cars? :lol

Whatever, I think what GRID is doing with a small car list is fine, since it fits the narrow focus of their "race driving" experience or whatever.

Yes, Polyphony has already mentioned that they most likely exceed the car count in GT4, by how much I don't know, no one outside of PD knows! I can see it maybe being 10-20 more cars, but thats just my guess.

Well the 40-50 cars in Grid might be good for you, but most racing fans are used to a greater selection of cars from their racers.

Hmm, hard to imagine they can ship a game in 2009 when they have to produce LOD0 models for 800 cars, especially since they're fully modeling interiors this time. It will be a serious feat of production prowess to pull it off. Do you have a source you can link me to? At any rate, it's a Polyphony promise, so it ain't worth too much to me personally.

As for Grid, I think the takeaway we're suppose to have with the demo and the Codemasters design philosphy has always been less about the cars and more about the racing "experience" -- think lots of particles on track, intense damage, and other crap that adds to the racing experience as you're on the track, battling it out in real-time.

You'll notice they don't really do much in the way of car porn. The garage scene in the menu actually has the car right of center on the screen and kind of in the distance a little.

Also, when I played DiRT (which I really enjoyed), I didn't miss the 750 car roster either.

Because 200 GRID cars > 700+ GT cars? The cars in GRID won't be 7 horsepower pieces of shit that you only race either early, early in the game or for shits n giggles later on.

I'm in two minds whether to get the game. Whilst I greatly enjoyed the demo and don't know if I really want more. It's fun to just mess around and try to cause huge crashes. I'll wait for reviews and see if the online functions are any good.

Those little cars are awesome to race with, especially when you master them, different strokes I guess. :lol

It's easy Che.

92 Nissan 300ZX
92 Nissan 300ZX USED
92 Nissan 300ZX TUNED

93 Nissan 300ZX
93 Nissan 300ZX USED
93 Nissan 300ZX TUNED

94 Nissan 300ZX
94 Nissan 300ZX USED
94 Nissan 300ZX TUNED

9 cars out of one model. Look at all those choices. :D

Anyway I like a large car list, but only because that usually means cars I have driven in real life have a better chance of being in the game.

Damage modeling is the reason you only get 50 cars here. Criterion said that same thing with Burnout Paradise, the time it takes to make a deformable car is far far greater than modeling a non-deformable car. Polyphony and Turn10 have kind of worked themselves into a corner now that quality damage modeling is such a big necessity.

I'm a little disappointed there aren't more touring cars like the new diesel SEAT. The Le Mans cars look pretty solid.

Ditto. Van races in GT were great. I think most driving skill is shown when you have very weak cars, or very strong ones and you have to manhandle all that power.

Let the hatin' and comparisons to sim racers begin...

I think it's fun, in a Ridge Racer with a weird physics engine thing going on kinda way.

I don't hate it, but the center-pivot, virtually weightless handling is going to leave it far short of what it could have been, IMO. I'm one of those who thinks that TOCA 3 in "Pro Sim Physics" is the best console racers ever made. It would be easy for me to throw some sim-biased hate on this game, but I really can't fault Codemasters for following the money. I guess this type of racing and handling is where the money is to be made so more power to them.

GRID was relegated from "must-buy" to "rent-first" with this demo. Even with the driving assists off, the handling still lacks the type of feel I want out of a racing/driving game. I don't have a lot of hope for options to remedy this to the degree I'm seeking in the final game, but I'll give it a shot via rental.

This I agree on, Touring cars in this game seem to be lacking compared to what we see on british tv.

Glad to see I'm not the only American addicted to BTCC! Every time I see a car sim thread saying damage or contact doesn't belong in racing I immediately know they've never watched BTCC :)
