GRIN Was Working On A Final Fantasy Game

looks like the cat is way out of the bag on this one, i had these on art site for a week or so now... not recieved any death threats from Square so im guessing they are safe to post.

and yeah the art direction was pretty much none existent on this project...no clear style or direction it was simply a case of "make it look cool" and that was that.

also i very very rarely heard anyone talking about FF12 as a reference, if it was it was an extremely vague one.

I'm not a much of a Final Fantasy fan, but if this game maintained this art style and had Grin's signature brevity, I'd be all over this.

Like a dude was saying, we most likely dodged a bullet on this one.
Also Kagari put it right in 2secs flat: "Square outsourcing FF to western devs now? D:"
Yes, it is SO wrong.
And I don't get peeps crying over GRIN sudden death, did they like what they did to Bionic?

Give the marlboro snake tentacles... Yeah, take the most annoying enemy in any fucking game and make it even more insane. I think we dodged a bullet.

Definitely something I did NOT see coming. Still, like the character designs.. reminds me of what Jade Cocoon would look like if Genki would revive it.

I think you forgot the part where it's bigger than a house. :lol

This art looks great though, specially the bomb staff.

I like those character designs. In fact, I like the alternative versions of Ashe more than the original. They look more regal (with the obvious exception of the peek-a-boo lace miniskirt), and less like a prostitute with a taste for ornate metal stockings.

The designs looked pretty good (though, obviously not just from GRIN).
However, I really couldn't have any faith in this game being from GRIN.

I just think it's astonishing what Grin achieved without releasing any games that were high regarded minus Rearmed. It's like giving the guy who created I made a game with Zombies in it the right to make a MGS title. Still, that is the only Ivalice moogle that I've seen done right.

The art looks pretty good, and the chocobos look normal. I'm looking at you Final Fantasy XIII. >> Never heard of GRIN before, though.

That looks really cool, I like the art a lot, and I love FF XII. A shame this got cancelled, hopefully SE continues its development or gives it to someone else.

I am simply referring to the claim in that article suggesting that Square Enix owed millions of dollars in payments to GRIN and contributed significantly to their downfall. If they owed millions of dollars, then it would already be a high budget title. :P
With a name like FF: Fortress?

Sounds like a lame XBLA castle defense game with fancy art.

Actually, all this concept art was salvaged directly from the portfolios of GRIN's artists.

A lot of games that don't exactly have a unique art direction still have concept art done by very talented artists.

Looks beautiful. Too bad about GRIN.

Wanted was a lot of fun.
Bionic Commando while it had a terrible story was very underrated.
And Rearmed was pretty much perfect.

Well according to Kagari, FFXIII is disappointing. It is not like SquareEnix has been great lately.

Yes making a quality RPG that according to the same person is an 8/10 means they haven't been good. Lets wait till we play FFXIII before we hate on it please.

Didn't Peter Jackson get to direct one of the biggest franchises of all-time for doing a bunch of cheap Zombie movies mostly? You have to start somewhere and take risks while doing so.

GRIN had some great environment artists but when you look at the artwork and compare it to the video you have to wonder if they could create scenarios like that.

I'm pretty sure they could going by what they did in Bionic Commando. Nothing was really amazing but the two set pieces I can remember in the game were actually pretty cool. They were both well realized.

As far as Hollywood was concerned, Lord of the Rings wasn't a big franchise until post-PJ. It'd be more like if they followed up the highly critically acclaimed X-Men 2 by handing the franchise over to a complete hack and oh dear

True, but the expectations were pretty big surely considering the popularity of the books. Didn't New Line Cinema bet their entire existence on it? Pretty huge pressure and budget to go with it so it's not like they could've hired random hack or something.
