Group of friends can't decide on Ps4 shooter

Killzone supposedly fixed the weighty controls and input lag.

COD is probably the best choice though. Twitch based or not it still requires skill and strategy.

I am going Killzone this time. The free maps and 60 fps online sold me on it. That and the Single Player seems to be the best if the launch shooters.

TitanFall, Halo 5 (1080p 60fps) etc. Xbox is still the undisputed platform for shooters. That's a fact!

Titian fall 2 will come to ps4 and fix whatever glaring errors is in the first game ( if it is even more than bullshit media hype), and halo needs to be shot behind the shed after how poor 4 was.

Have killzone as part of my pack deal,

Love Battlefield so might get that too....

However looking forward to Destiny and Planetside 2 in 2014

These games have not been confirmed to be 1080p, in fact rumors have it than Titanfall is 720p.
On topic: Shadow Fall looks excellent, I would go with that.

Battlefield or KZ. Forget CoD

Warframe you mean? That's 4p co op.

I'd go with BF4 first after playing the MP for that. I think the squads are 5p on next gen and PC. Can't remember what they were on the current gen beta.

KZ looks fun but I haven't seen everything there is to offer there.

Then again, as was mentioned, the Season Pass is only 20 and you get all the competitive maps free with KZ.

Warframe is ok.I bought into the founder program at Master level, and have been there since closed Beta. It has a fun core, but the game is literally /nothing/ but a gear treadmil. You unlock the map, "finish" the game, then grind sections over and over to level gear.

They release new maps/areas every now and then, but all these serve as are new places to grind to level the new gear you've acquired.

Battlefield 4 might suit you if you play the infantry maps.

Apart from that, I'd wait for Destiny. the other games probably won't suit you as Cod is indeed more twitchy and Killzone will very likely retain its signature feel.

Sounds like you want Destiny, especially if you were Halo fans.

Perhaps get Killzone for now and jump over to Destiny next year.

Battlefield will most likely have the most legs, with its premium service- new maps, weaponry and vehicles-

go for it- 32 on 32 in massive levels is a sight to behold and be a part of.

Have the same problem as the OP. On one hand I love the slower kill times in Shadowfall (huge fan of Halo from CE till Reach), but on the other hand I see many weapons in multiplayer footage that are very easy to use from long distances and are able to kill enemies in 1 shot.

Just how balanced are the weapons in Killzone multiplayer usually?

I would go for Killzone, because:
- MP looks like a lot of fun
- MP is 1080p 60fps
- skill based + all weapons unlocked
- free DLC
- customizable matches

They didn't. Killzone 3 controls are as tight and responsive as a console shooter can get. It has shitty story and characters but it is pure fun gameplay wise (except vehicle stages).

I could never get the right sensitivity on my layout. I couldn't configure the X and Y components to get the right balance. Even after messing around with it for awhile it still feels off.

Battlefield for sure, it is just an amazing experience. I'm not sure why flying would make you not want the game, as you could never touch a single vehicle in the game and have an absolute blast. Even the deathmatch mode is a lot more fun in Battlefield due to the destruction IMO.

You know what? I nearly forgot how much I enjoyed the KZ: Mercenaries beta. The usual heaviness wasn't there, so maybe the situation has improved with Shadowfall.

Battlefield 4 - none of us likes flying planes/choppers and cringe at the idea of buying an ea game new.

You know, you don't HAVE to fly planes or helicopters. Get in tanks or other vehicles, or just go infantry. That's the beauty of Battlefield.

I didn't realize Kz had everything unlocked from the get go, sounds silly but I enjoy weapon progression since it means I won't just use AR # 6 forever 95% of the time.

Warframe isn't even really a shooter in the same vein as the others, and last time I played there was no PvP. Its all PvE, and it was pretty lax on content.
Fun game tho, and its free so why not just play that on the side along with whatever you choose?

There's still progression in the sense that you unlock mods and upgrades for your weapons. Just all the weapons are there from the start.

Free map DLC as well is another reason to go with KZ:SF...userbase won't be split by map packs.

I think you and your friends should really grab Killzone from what I've seen. MP is 1080p and 60 frames, and has the best visual fidelity...it will show off the power of the new system better than any other game.

Visuals aside, the gameplay also seems extremely strong. They fixed the "swimming" controls of KZ2. I also had problems with KZ:M on Vita feeling sluggish, but I turned the sensitivity up and had no problems. For some reason GG makes their games deliberately slow at default, so you have to adjust. This is a separate issue from KZ2's bad input lag issues.

KZ:SF seems a lot more responsive than the previous games, and 60 fps will help out a ton with that.

Single player seems far more open than any of the other killzone games -- multiple mission objectives in open world arenas, with gadgets at your disposal, and all cinematics shown in first person. Seems like an FPS fans dream imho.

Hopefully not serious.

Hopefully half serious.

The skill ceiling for CoD, as repeated ad nauseam by many, is low. But there is something to be said for knowing the map and which perks work best against which contingencies. The idea of using strategy in CoD is largely a joke and any form of it is largely reserved to clans and mlg players who, at best, will say things along the lines of "rush this area", "save that killstreak for the next Capture the Flag round", or "enemy was last spotted on so-and-so area on the map". On an individual basis, the strategy would come down to running good killstreaks that you know you will also have fun with. I know that back in MW3 counter-uav was not the most effective killstreak. But when you do it a bunch of times it's hilarious because you know the other team is super annoyed. Not many people used the perk to counter it or bothered to shoot it down. Yes, if you played MW3, I was that guy running CUAV the entire round every round.

So yeah, there's not a lot of strategy or skill involved in CoD. I would say BF4 requires more strategy (more of a team effort in modes like Conquest) and that Shadow Fall requires more skill (no auto aim, more even playing field as far as weapons go) but that CoD still does require a small mix of both and it's still evident who is a good player and who is a bad player.

But I know not everyone wants to hear a nuanced discussion about it so HURRRR COD M I RITE

BF4 is the only answer. You might not like planes/vehicles etc, but YOU WILL.

Except you wont like it that this game is already splitting community at launch with a DLC mappack. And more will come and the community will be more fragmented.

I am going for the game with FREE mappacks, aka Killzone Shadow Fall. Never been a huge KZ fan at all ( barely played 2, only played the MP demo for 3 ) but I feel like I gotta support dutch development studios and 1080p/60fps who can argue with that and free mappacks?

Seems like an FPS fans dream imho.

For singeplayer the dream is Half-Life 3 or No One Lives Forever 3. Not including FPS-RPG hybrids. For multiplayer the dream from either a new Quake/Unreal without hats to a realistic non-buggy actual military simulator to a realistic WW2 shooter where you mount bipods and shit and it's basically Saving Private Ryan.

If I were you i'd give KZ:SF some serious consideration. KZ2 & 3's multiplayer were excellent and I expect SF to be even better.
If the controller lag from KZ2 is what bothered you, that was gone in KZ3 and I expect the controls in SF to be even better again due to the DS4

Killzone is only on PS4.
COD and battlefield are on PS3/PS4

Killzone can make full use of the PS4's power and not be held back.

Exept when we talk about actual gameplay that doesn't mean much. I haven't seen anything advanced Killzones MP does in that regard. I wouldn't base my purchase of an MP game i plan to play for months based on which is prettier.

Battlefield with your friends is probably the single greatest squad based console game you can play, taking objectives, flanking, working to take out tanks/planes its amazing. Amazing feeling when one runs interference on a tank, popping up taking shots etc and the other C4's from the blindside. GLORIOUS

Oh and I' give Killzone another go, SF looks very good.

Killzone's MP doesn't seem to do anything new in any sense of the word, but it does seem pretty cool. Free maps, no auto-aim, and all weapons unlocked from the start with no progression-based EXP system are the three main things I would say why Shadow Fall is worth considering.

Blacklight and Warframe are fun games. I tried them on PC. Imo Warframe is a great co-op third person shooter and Blacklight is like sci-fi CoD
They are free too so try both!

From what it sounds like KZ might be it if you hate CoD and BF

From your description Killzone seems to be the only choice. Also what you describe as "swimmy controls" was only in Killzone 2.
And the Vita killzone.
Bf4 and cod will have the longest legs and most people to play with. That or wait for destiny.
Why destiny when the others will be 60fps?
Battlefield 4 will probably be the best, but if you don't like vehicles I don't know what to tell you. Battlefield 3 was the best competitive multiplayer experience this generation. With a more than doubled player count, the game will be unbelievable.
They could just pay domination, tdm or a server with infantry only.

Killzone looks so different compared to the ps3 enteries.

I just got burned out of bf, after bf3. I have been playing more kz games lately. So i am looking forward to shadow fall

Will there be a demo of Killzone? If you're concerned about the controls, then that may be the solution.

Personally I'm going with Killzone and Battlefield even though I'm not a big fan of FPS (Couldn't resist the $10 back promotion on PSN), but if I had to pick one it'd probably be Killzone. You just want something shiny on your new console, plus Killzone 2 multiplayer was all kinds of awesome in my book.

There'll be a free MP weekend right after Christmas. If someone's on the fence, I'd wait until then. Plus you'll probably be able to find a cheaper, used copy of the game at that point. Unlike Battlefield, lots of people will buy this just for the SP.
