If you can defeat two Code S players in a row, you deserve to advance, cheese or not.Pandaman said:these best of 1's are making liquibets hard. :lol
all the cheesier poorer players have a serious chance of advancing.
syllogism said:They are playing gisado on non-ladder, "experimental" maps and according to the korean restreamer, one of the maps will be used on GSL (???)
The chart makes it WAYYYY more complicated than it really is. All you need to know is basically: the losers of the Code S group stage have to face off against the winning Code A players, and the winners of the Code S group stage get to stay in Code S another season. The losers of the Code A tournament have to defend against newcomers who weren't in the tournament the previous season.Feep said:Look, I'm sure I could take the time and effort to understand that chart, but this is complete bullshit. It's incredibly complex, ridiculous, and worse than the BCS bowl system.
Fuck off, GSL.

Bottom 16 Code S players and top 8 Code A players put into groups of 3.
Top 2 in each group go to Code S -- loser to Code A. Whoever placed 3rd in their group has two chances to stay in Code S, 4th and the Code A player have one try.

The 4 invites are getting into Code A itself for free, not the Code A qualifiers? That is awesome, kudos Gom.
Poor ret going through these nail-biting qualification matches. :lol
Yeah, I speculated before thatbbyybb said:I don't think the system is that confusing.
I wonder who the 4 foreigners are going to be however.
When they say world wide tournament, do they mean Dreamhack, blizzcon, wcg, etc?
Haunted said:Yeah, I speculated before that
Dreamhack
Blizzcon
MLG series
IEM Global Challenge
are probably the biggest non-Korean tournaments out there. At least they were in 2009. I'm not sure that a community-driven tournament like TSL3 will be considered, but in terms of prize money it would certainly be up there (35k$ for the winner).
But as long as Gom doesn't specify this, the 4 invite spots are basically a free pass for them to invite some good prolific players.![]()
d'oh, you're right it's ~35k in total. Not on MLG levels (considering how many events they've got lined up) but still up there with Dreamhack.HolyCheck said:tis 15k for the winner
I assume at first they'll invite HuK, Select + a few others in Korea who have performed well over the year (both did well at MLG's)

bbyybb said:Wasn't the last MLG's (Dallas?) 1st place prize money only 6,250. The TSL has more for the winner but less money overall for the placings.
Edit: Found some prize money information.
You are right though, MLG run multiple events a year whilst the TSL is only once a year.
MLG Dallas
Total: $17,50
1st Place: $6,250
2nd Place: $3,750
3rd Place: $2,500
4th Place: $1,750
5th Place: $1,250
6th Place: $875
7th Place: $625
8th Place: $500
TSL 3

Hoping the MLG prizes get bigger this year, considering they've had a $10mil boost in funding and that their 2010 budget was like 40mil.. that's quite the increase!
That's true, but JP let on on SotG that we're going to see an increase in MLG SCII prize money in 2011 due to its popularity at the three events it was a part of so far.bbyybb said:Wasn't the last MLG's (Dallas?) 1st place prize money only 6,250. Just type in Gom in the search field in the upper right and scan the page for "Sponsorship" - it'll always be on the front page. Or better yet, use the neogaf seach plugin for Firefox, since that one produces even better results (this thread is #2). Never had a problem finding this thread.TheThunder said:ok.. alright..I give up
I will subscribe to this thread. Searching for it was too much pain in the ass.
bbyybb said:I hope so. Right now Halo 3 4x4 is where the big money is for the MLG tournament.
1st place got 100k.
