GT Sport E3 Build - Massive Upgrade

It's hard to believe that just weeks after this happened...

gtsrevealb7uq3.png

GTS is one of the most mentioned titles in the "Visually, what were the best looking games of E3?" thread...

"Each car has been recreated from scratch for this new game"

Did PD throw away all the GT5/6 premium cars?

Knowing Kaz, he probably did because he's a perfectionist to a fault when it comes to details on his games. That's a part of what causes constant delays with GT games.

Unless there's an E3 interview somewhere I don't trust NX gamers at all. Kaz said in the past that the premium cars are made to be future proof. If Kaz was such a perfectionist he wouldn't put standard cars in GT5/6 and the game would run at a constant 60fps.

Maybe the may reveal was a ps4 build while the recent build is ps4 neo?

I read somewhere all games shown by Sony at E3 were on a regular PS4, sorry do not remember the source.

I think your post is a glimpse into the future, After the Neo is announced Sony need to start having a strap-line at the start of official videos saying 'captured on PS4' or 'captured on PS4K' if not it will be the first comment on every youtube video or forum.

After Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank and now Sony's showing at E3 I am amazed how good PS4 titles are looking.

This is rather an argument for the work in GT5 and 6.

Just the new materials solution would render the old models obsolete anyway so beginning from scratch would be the more effective way than trying to update the old models.

I hope this game still improves considerably before launch because it will force me not to purchase the game. After buying a ps4 and forcing myself not to buy into the following is going to wound me terribly. Add the whole 'needing to buy a new wheel', its starting to leave a sour taste...

Average 53fps with no v-sync.
Screen Tearing.
No/little in-game motion blur.
AA/shimmering issues.
Dithering.
No visual crash damage.
Poor/practically non-existent collision physics.
Track side physics non-existent.
Poor engine audio & still old-gen tyre screeching.
No Dynamic Time Of Day or Weather (I'm ok with this if all above gets sorted)

What really is starting to grate my gears is the 'all the cars have been remade from scratch' comments. Why is this? Why all the talk in previous games saying how long it took to make Premiums but at least they can be used in upcoming games but here we are after 3 years into ps4 life, they had to be remade again? This bit is starting to sound like bullshit and makes me feel there is a bit of ripping off going on here, perhaps even a bit of a cash-in...

Is this game getting a bit of a free pass judging be some comments? :-(

Of course, if all the above gets addressed by launch, I'll be as happy as a pig in shit and even (grudgingly) buy a new wheel!

I'm guessing this will teach about 0.5% of the haters not to get angry about this type of shit prematurely.

Can't wait for this game.

Only the bolded is important for GT gameplay. The rest is noise. Also the two things that will get fixed for sure in time for launch.

The game is coming along very nicely, it already looks much, much better than the reveal footage, which was an older build and I'm still not sure why they used that footage instead of waiting, maybe there was a little pressure from Sony to show something or it was just PD being impatient.

Well..... maybe.

I wouldn't call them/me haters though. Just guys/gals wanting a product to evolve as much as it should since they first fell for it, all those years ago.

Those bolded might only be important for you but the others are just as important to me and no doubt, many others. After 3 years, we should not be getting a cheapened product...

Why you would hire a career music producer and songwriter to do car audio for a game that is denigrated for its poor car audio, but then choose not to hire one of the most respected car audio guys in the industry? It doesn't make any sense to me. Does that make sense to anyone else?

.
I mostly agree with your post but i want to say that sometimes they best guy is not the right guy.
PD is already a team and they certainly were looking for people that could fit within the team. ( that's a key factor when you hire someone ).
We don't know their criteria but it's definitely possible that somone, while being great doesn't fit the mold of the Team PD is. It's also the job of the people in charge to check this before you hire someone , as talented as possible but wouldn't be able to work great with everything that was already in place.

But some of that stuff you're wishing for was never part of Gran Turismo to begin with.

You can judge whether it's a cheapened product when it launches. The series and Polyphony has never been 'cheapened', even though it can be somewhat anachronistic sometimes.

I'm sure it will look stunning on release and will be classy as fuck.

You know, like it's always been.

Better sounds, damage, and more SP content is all I want. Also, anyone ask Kaz about the update roadmap yet? And what exactly do you do with credits? They are giving me a bunch just for preordering.!

I know they cut a few corners here and there but really it just looks nice. The style they use and the way textures look (even to this day ps2/3) is just well made and implemented.

Some of heir textures in ps2 gt still look fantastic in their own right.

Hope they get the tracks in I enjoy but only 19 tracks including dirt/nascar? Seems a lot is missing?

they aren't calling it prologue but this is pretty much a refined, polished prologue IMO because GT7 won't be done until 2018.

I'm just confused on how much this will get updated...

I've no idea why you think 'some of that stuff was never a part of GT to begin with' has anything to do with peoples expectations of a newer product. Especially when 'some of that stuff' are things that has been asked for time and time again.

I get it. You love the series. I love it too. I hardly played GT5 cos it annoyed me at the time I had to keep deciding whether or not I should be using interior cockpit on Premium cars and then switch to bumper cam for Standard - a silly thing I know but it was certainly not 'classy a fuck'.

What's wrong with people like myself wanting a better product on their ps4 than they had on their ps3?

I understand the physics will be improved on GTSport but I love them enough already on GT5. The reason I and I would suspect many others ask for these improvements, albeit irrelevant that they are not part of GT in the past, is I/they want enough reasons to purchase the game and a (mandatory if they already have a wheel that works on ps3) new wheel costing @ £300?

Surely after 3 years and all the shit talk about Premiums being re-used and what not and the fact we're getting a more streamlined/smaller/less content version of the game compared to previous versions, asking for those other things isn't too much - especially to be labelled as haters for doing so, at least?

Anyway, I keenly await/hope those other areas I think should be improved, are. I'll certainly vote with my wallet as well as my opinion as to why.

Neah, it's fair to hope for those features. Not all of what you listed is realistic to expect, but you can always hope.

I'm not a huge fan of the series actually, but I like it for what it is and tries to do.

Mine was more a reaction to the people raging at GT Sport's reveal footage than it was to yours in particular.

Comments like 'Is this game getting a bit of a free pass judging be some comments? :-(' do irk me somewhat; it's not weird that some people are saving their judgement/outrage for when they actually know what the final game is like.

It's bizarre to me that they would release the earlier footage and give such a poor first impression instead of just waiting a matter of weeks to give a far more positive one with this latest build.
It's very likely that was the most stable build they had relative to framerate, since they invited so many people at the event to race, they wanted to ensure framerate stability.

Yep could also lead to some sneaky devs saying footage is from ps4 when really it's ps4 neo.

Were people predicting the final game would be shit, or were they saying the stuff shown at Copper Box was shit?

Because it was.

Shit.

Given the considerable variations in performance you get between patches on released games, it still boggles my mind that people are surprised that you get even more variance between builds of unfinished titles.

GT Sport looked like absolute dogshit during the London event, no one can deny that was the case. What I find baffling is the jump in quality after just a month, PD can't have figured out just now what was going wrong which they didn't manage for the first couple years the games been in development.

I find it very hard to believe the game made such a jump in one moth and think it's more likely the May build was very old, getting small updates throughout the event because the net code was stabler than the new builds.

No matter what the case is, the games got a serious boost and looks like a current gen game. Hope for further improvement because PD don't just make games that look good for their current console, they should be top of the pile with some ease.

It looks so damn impressive, especially after that flat reveal. Downloaded that 3.4GB of footage, and was absolutely mesmerized!

"Each car has been recreated from scratch for this new game"

Did PD throw away all the GT5/6 premium cars?
As I understand it, they're using a very different tech for car modelling now that revolves around tesselation. So yes, they had to start afresh with all of the cars.

I mostly agree with your post but i want to say that sometimes they best guy is not the right guy.

Fair point, although I believe the audio guys are working mostly in isolation in different regions. Having said that, with the RRE audio guy, if you felt he didn't fit in well with your audio team, you should hire him and then fire the rest of your audio team. Let's be honest, the PD audio guys are not very good at their job. Game development is a very competitive field and unfortunately they're clearly not cut out for it.
